  1. I do not want to trade Trae especially that we now have a coach he likes and that coach is very capable of brining out the best in Trae.

Now is the time to keep our young core fairly intact to grow with coach Quinn.

We should just do some minor roster improvements but under no circumstances should we move Trae. It's silly and I'm just tired of the click bait trade crap that always surrounds players on this team.

There are a lot of good coaches available right now.

Looking at the landscape, were we to early with Quinn?

So many big names on the market this offseason.

    Sheesh

Id rather have Quinn then any other coach in the NBA. He is in his prime and is a Basketball savant and everyone on the team has already bought in.

No more out of date retreads or interim experiments. We got the coach we wanted and he was able to do some good things in the last part of the season to build a foundation of trust.

No way would I want any other coach right now.

When the Hawks changed coaches, the same assistants stayed and they ran the same offense as before and it carried them into the playoffs.

Then, the next season the new coach brought in his own assistants and his own way of doing things.  Didn't do as well as we had before.

Changed again last season and brought in Quin.  He ran the same plays and had the same assistants.  End of the season he changes all assistant coaches and will be doing everything his way next season.  We don't have to assume.  We know this is what is going to happen.

What we don't know is who will be on the roster when the new season begins.  We can only hazard a guess.

    :smug:

This time I trust Quinn and am excited for him to run things his way over Nate

  4. Crazy year but I'm ok with things, we did more then people expected and have a bright future. It was also the first season my teenage son really followed the Hawks so it was a good introduction to how frustrating ATL pro teams can be but overall this was a good year, it could have been alot worse and at the start I thought it would end up much better but them is the brakes.

I do think we are now ahead of the game with the early Quin hire.  Whichever platers are here net season will have a leg up on Quin-xpectations and a play book to work on.

Yea it was a GREAT idea to let him coach out the Season, this off season will be SUPER effective now that Snyder has a real idea of the team and what he could do with them in the playoffs with little preparation.

The new Front office is making some REALLY good and innovative smart moves since the Front Office turn over. It was a little chaotic when it happened and I dreaded another rebuild but this all turned out really well so far and I'm very happy with the new Front Office.

If we won a ring this year, I think it would transform how Trae is seen and how the team is seen.  We were on the brink of that happening last time we went to the ECF but we didn't stick the landing when we flopped (relatively speaking) the next season.

You'd think that but I'd still expect the media to brush it off and try and ignore it and then next year treat us like crap.

If we trade John, I won't really celebrate too much even if we get marginally better.  For anyone that hasn't been, in the lower middle section of one side of State Farm Arena, sitting in section 119 and the sections near it, there's a big swath of seats for the "Players Club", which is an all-inclusive food lounge area.  At the end of this lounge under the seats, is a wall that's blown out where you have a giant window to the tunnel, so you can see/experience the players running through the tunnel to the court and back.  If you go early enough, you'll catch players in a more relaxed setting going back and forth before the official obligations start.  I was lucky enough to sit down there a few times this year and each time, the one player that always stopped by the window was JC -- signing autographs, taking selfies, high-fiving fans... most of the players just run by quickly and at most give a high five to fans with their hands out, but JC was by far the friendliest of the players and you could tell he really appreciated the fans.  My favorite memory from this year was just him stopping by and fist bumping me and I told him we appreciate him to which he humbly gave a "thank you man thank you"

Anyways, I think about that when reading through this thread and it made me a little sad, even if I understand peoples reasoning for wanting to move on from him.  There are not a lot of players out there that are willing to put in a little extra time for the fans and the city, so he will be missed greatly if we move on from him.

I just dont think he is an issue and is a plus for the team. Hes a hardhat work pale guy with great leadership skills. Every team needs that so why get rid if him probably for next to nothing.

Id say Hunter is more of an ups and downs issue and he is more injury prone.

well, falcons and braves both made it to the super bowl/world series multiple times. Hawks haven't even gotten to the finals. Smoltz definitely was a very clutch/big time pitcher in postseason play.

also tyler nutzack, probably the greatest post season performance in atlanta sports history.

Yes but pretty much different teams with different players. I'll give props to Smoltz himself but many teams he was on choked in the spotlight.

  9. Been an ATL sports fan since the late 70's, was born and raised here and have had to deal with our teams either outright sucking like the 80's or things like the 98 and 2016 super bowl, tons of Braves chokes over the years in post season and a Hawks team destined for mediocrity besides the Glorious Nique Years who still did not win it all.

I've seen stars fold like lawn chairs and ATL teams collapse at the most crucial times.

And while I still love the stars we've had over the years I do not recall us every having a rising superstar like Trae who not only performs under the spotlight he actually seems to play better then more pressure he is under.

And ironically everyone outside of the ATL hates him and think we will trade him.

Yea screw that Trae is the real deal,

That was really beautiful. Trae gave us one purely joyous moment in what has felt like a lost season. Love to see sad Boston fans.

It is truly crazy that Trae didn’t shoot a free throw until the last two minutes of the game. He had multiple drives that should’ve earned him free throws. The TNT guys kept complimenting Boston on how they were able to play defense without fouling, which is hilarious. Just because the refs don’t call them doesn’t mean they’re not fouling.

As annoying as this season was this win pretty much seals it as a positive for us.

Miami play-in win was awesome, Last night was amazing AND we hired Snyder for 5 years at least.

Being so Mid all year was frustrating but I have 100% confidence in Snyder and from wat I've seen the team has all bought in with him so the skies the limit.

Any playoff where we get clutch Trae stabbing the heart of a rival is good to me.

You do know that almost ALL superstar players are selfish to a point, because they believe in their ability.

What would you have liked to seen?  Bey, who has never been in the playoffs before, take late game winning shots?  How about Hunter?  JC?  Bogi?  All of those players may be capable of making game winning type shots at the end.  But you talk as if Trae has never done this before.  He knows what to do at the end of games.

Game winner in Game 5 vs the Knicks to eliminate them.

10 points in the final 5 minutes of Game 7 in Philly, after having a horrible shooting night

Game winner vs Miami in Game 3 last year.

Game winner last night vs Boston in Game 5.

LOL . . you talk about he almost threw the game away.  The man had 38 points and 13 assists . . zero turnovers in the 2nd half.  He played above average defense most of the night.  And he made the plays that we needed to make to win games.

And yet you still have mixed feelings about him?  LOL.

All Trae does is win under pressure, I would not want anyone in the NBA taking a last second 30 +footer to win a big game besides Trae taking that shot.

28 and 10 are pretty much HOF numbers which he does consistently in the regular season and then add in his under pressure spotlight time performances and he will probably be considered one of the all time greats when he retires.

People not only seem to expect Trae to be perfect 100% of the time but they also have a fit when he pulls a rabbit out of hit hat like last night.

Statements like this are infuriating.  Had he passed the ball and Hunter or JC or Bogi miss the 3 he just goes back to being a guy who "you can't win with" and "can't build around".  But he literally puts the team on his shoulders and carries it to a win and he's "selfish?"  WTH?  Complete and utter nonsense.  Ridiculous stupidity.

He's the Hawks superstar. In an elimination game. Against a better opponent.  Without his backcourt running mate.  He did what was needed to win the F'n game.  Just say thank you and move on.

Yea the hair splitting going on is pretty tiring, hey maybe if you did not spend years trashing Trae t not ends you would not feel bad about walking it back when he steps up and delivers in clutch.

He is under such a huge and unfair microscope compared to other rising Stars in the league.

trying to remember how long ago it was historically when if someone said they were physically recovered from an injury, but not mentally ready that person would've been universally condemned, belittled and ostracized?

We need to go back to that time's mindset STAT.

Na, mental health issues are no joke and need to be healed like any physical injury. This kind of attitude will push people off the deep end.

  14. To me this one win is a fine sendoff and proof that Quinn is the right guy for this team long term.

Anything else we do is gravy. With the crazy ups and down ill take a play in win and call it good and be excited for next year.

If we beat Boston to move to the next round, maybe the regular season really doesn't matter that much?

Trae said it last year, the Playoffs are just more fun than the regular season.  Maybe we’re about to see a different version of the Hawks and not the LAW OF MID we've seen all year long... lol

Maybe but I'd still like a division title now and again and also never a season as mid as this one please.

The Miami win was cathartic so its all gravy from this point. We now though have a win where we can point to and say Quinn out coached a well respected franchise. This could be THE game where things not only turn around but Validates Quinn to the entire Roster
