  1. I am not to fond of only using statistics to determine an outcome because after all, we are human and things constantly change. BUUUUT MAN.....I sure hope your system holds true. This would be huge! Thanks for posting!
  2. Eh... I can see what u are saying if u are strictly talking about last year but in the past the hawks have been pretty exciting, expecially during the time that jamal was here. Also the games have always been fun to go to.
  3. Well I do not think that changing perceptions or winning a game against any team regardless of situation is impossible. It's just hard to do unless u get a quick fix (superstar). I I personally think that the ferry move is a huge step in changing that perception. But for the the most part I agree with u this is a what have u do r for me lately town...When it comes to the hawks.
  4. No, what I am saying is that if the Hawks went to the conference finals and got blown out, people in Atlanta will latch on to that and say that the Hawks still sick. If they were to win a game or two, then ur in business. What do the Hawks need to do? Change the perception of the franchise. I truly believe that if the Hawks can win over the media, and get them to put out constant hope about the team, having a superduper star will not matter, when it comes to bringing fans in.
  5. I totally agree with this, hope is a powerful thing, the Falcons do a good job of creating hope. I just don't understand why people have have for two franchises but not for the other, the only one who has SHOWN consistent improvement (other than last year). Its almost as if the people in Atlanta HOPE that the Hawks do bad so that they can say, "I told you so".
  6. 1. Would the fan base be different? I doubt it, would have depended on how well we did in the next round. 2. Could we have sold out the arena? I think that there would be more people at the games, based on how we did in that next round. 3. Would FAs want to come to Atlanta? Maybe My point is asking this is to look at the surroundings and see if changing them has an effect on perception. Negative perceptions are very hard to overcome, subtle improvements are not gonna help much. IMO the Hawks will have to do something drastic to change that perception.
  7. Yes Football is king in this city, but there are more than enough people in the city of Atlanta to fill up a 18,000 seat arena. This is not some small town in the middle of nowhere .
  8. "Firstly Horford I like, Smoove does too many stupid things on the court for me to call him a star player. Also, for Joe to be in the top 10 highest paid players the league... HIs numbers didn't support it." Sooooooo you think that they are trash because they are not "supserstars"???? hmm ok. How does Joe's pay grade help support your ridiculous comment? "The predicament our sports teams are in, talking Hawks and Falcons, has been pretty bad. Pertaining to being extreme let downs the past 5 years. Plus no one really wants to play here, at least with Hawks. The Falcons have a stacked team but still can't win a playoff game. There is a reason the city of Atlanta was rated #1 as most miserable sports city in the U.S. this year. We have good enough teams but they always let us down." Have the Hawks really been an EXTREME let down in the past 5 years? Year 1 taking Boston (the champions) to 7 games when the Hawks weren't even suppose to be in the playoffs. Year 2 being taken you by the mighty king James (don't think that that would happen today). Year 3 being stomped by the Magic (this was an extreme let down). Year 4 beating the magic when the Hawks were expected not to win a game but then losing to the bull while being competitive. Year 5 being beat by Boston which can arguably be one of the worst screw jobs I have seen by a refs. With all of that said, I see 1 EXTREME let down, maaaaybe 2. The expectations a set very high for the Falcons. The perception of the Falcons is very good so people expect them to win year after year, so I can see how this would be a let down. "As far as the crowd chanting "ATL" that was only literally half of the arena. The entire other half of the arena were Celtics fans, and they were much louder overall". LOL....so exactly how are you measuring this? I am sure someone in sports science would love to know the system to which you can measure how half of a crowd is saying one thing and the other half is not. I was there for two of those games and I can say that it sure didn't sound like half of an arena. "We need a superstar, obviously this team isn't going anywhere without one. Name one championship team the past 20 years that didn't have at least one superstar on their team. Or at least a few all-stars". I really don't have to answer this, because you already wrote them down. I would say the Pistons and Spurs, maaaybe the Mavs (dirk is in between if you ask me). These teams had stars but not "superstars", IMO the only superstars in this league are Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Derick Rose, Kevin Durant and D12 I may be missing 1 or 2 but you get my point. Tell me this hypothetically speaking, and I really want you to think about this and be real. If the Hawks would have won a championship one of those 5 years that they were in the playoffs, who would people add on that list that you just put down? I guarantee you people would say "look the Hawks had Joe an allstar, Al an allstar, and Josh Smith who is a beast and one of the best at his position. Do you see how this works?
  9. Bingo, my point EXACTLY!!! I agree.!
  10. First of all, let me start by saying that I was just trying to legitimately answer your question, you can take my answer however you want to. Now lets discuss your response, yes I did say lack there of, is there a question about the lack of support that the Hawks get from atliens???? And if I am so oblivious please enlighten me on the predicament that Atlanta is in as it pertains to sports teams, I am very interested to hear what you have to say about that. You cant blame this on transplants did you hear the crowed chanting Atl during the playoffs for the past two years? Tell me this what good is a "superstar" if you are not winning games or advancing? In my book if you are putting up superstar nimbers :) then why does it matter? And lastly how dare you call the players that play for YOUR home town trash??? Do you really believe that Josh, Al, Joe (gone now) were trash players? You cannot be serious.
  11. LOL...true. But that whole excuse about getting robbed or harassed going to a Hawks game as opposed to a Falcons or Braves game is just silly, especially when Dome is right next to Phillips Arena and the Braves stadium is LITERALLY in the ghetto.
  12. Its called "Leading the discussion" I am not sure about your other post but if you are referring to your bobble head topic, your title and some of the sentences that you used in that thread led to the discussion of support (or lack there of) and filling up arenas. An example would be if I posted a topic saying that Josh Smith is the best big man on the Hawks squad, you may or may not be legitimately trying to give Josh some props but eventually that topic will lead to a discussion or "start an argument" on how Al is better, which will then eventually lead to posters finding ways to trash both players. Hope that answers your question.
  13. Don't get me wrong, I am not talking about those who cannot afford to go to games, but the ones who have the disposable income to do so, and trust me, there are A LOT, of those people in Atlanta.
  14. The Hawks do not purchase those items, the vendor does. For example I was getting my hair cut yesterday and spotted a woman selling hats, she had Braves, Falcons, Saints, Miami and Boston hats. I asked here where the Hawks hat was she said that she didn't know if anyone would buy one, 3 barbers immediately said "I would". So the reason walmart, target, and all of these other stores don't have hawks stuff is because they do not believe that it is profitable or that people will buy it.
  15. See to me... this is one of the prime examples of the excuses that I am talking about. There are way to many people in Atlanta with money to spend on games but choose not to because they don't want to associate themselves with the Hawks. I mean the homeless people? Seriously how far is the dome from Phillips arena? To be honest look at the area surrounding the braves stadium, u are more likely to get robbed in that area than downtown Atlanta, and Marta doesn't even stop there but the braves can draw in 15-16 thousand fans on a Thursday during business hours. Its the perception I'm telling you.
  16. And I don't agree with blaming the fans either but I can blame some atliens for being ignorant about their home teams. I will never forget the day that I asked someone to come to a game with me and he said no because the Hawks suck, but he will go to a Falcons game. At the time the Hawks had one of the best records in the east and had advanced to the second round twice, I don't think that the falcons even made the playoffs the year before.
  17. I mostly agree with some of your points buy not all. I feel like when you the Hawks win, a big game is kinda of brushed over we agree on that, but when they lose big, it is very well known that the hawks lost, by how much and how such and such was just the better team.I kinda get what you are saying about the radio station but I can't really say that the hawks are bad because of that. 680 could have been having problems that night. Lastly I do not believe that not having a "superstar" is that much of a factor, I believe it is the lack of marketing for the hawks players that they do have is the problem.
  18. This is basically a continuation of the conversation that was started in an earlier thread that was moved (for good reason).Lets be real here about why people don't show up to Hawks games, its not about traffic, its not about location, its not about the time of day the games are played, price....etc or any of the other EXCUSES people give when asked about coming to Hawks games, because we all know that if D12 LBJ or any big name player was to come to Atlanta all of those EXCUSES would magically disappear. This situation is all about PERCEPTION, people in general have a negative perception about the Hawks, and if you have been around for a while, you know the perception (in some cases) far out weighs reality. If I fault the Hawks for anything it is not doing enough or a better job at changing that negative perception.Think about it, whats your perception of Mercedes? Classy, elite, all of the good things that you can say about a car correct? Now what has been perception of Kia? Cheap, unreliable, basically the direct opposite right? What if someone took the symbol off of the Mercedes and put it on a Kia optima? Do you think most would know the difference? Kia has worked really hard (and I believe it is working) at changing peoples perception of their vehicles and the Kia optima a perfect example of that (I like the car by the way). You take the Hawks recent 5 seasons and put that on any other sports team in Atlanta and I guarantee you a majority sell out. What you are seeing with the Falcons now is that perception starting to wear off "wait a minute, these just some regular ol crackers" (inside joke for those of you who have seen Eddie Murphy's Raw). AB has done a very good job in making people believe that he is bettering his team but the result remains the same.I will admit that the Hawks have made some very bad decisions but as far as the product that they have put on the court? I can honestly say that they have done a good job.
  19. What if the Hawks go through hell to get him and he pulls a Lamar Odom? Then what?
  20. Where there is will, there is a way? I believe that DH will get his way sooner or later. The Nets and DH are relentless in there pursuit of each other.
