  1. Man, Lou was doing some serious sulking on the bench. Anybody catch that? Dennis had a couple of nice buckets. The end of the game really was Teague in a nutshell: ties the game at 107 with a nice floater, misses a layup, turns the ball over, goes to the line with a chance to tie the game, misses the first (check), makes the second (checkmate).

  2. I agree. I don't think you can take the first 30 games in this case as a prediction of the last 50. Further, we have no idea what Ferry would have done at the deadline. With a health Horford this season is completely different.

This current stretch is due to too many guys playing outside of their roles.

I'd like to add that in the first 20 games of the big three Miami Heat era, the Heat went 12-8. They were still favorites to make it to the finals, sure, I'm just pointing out that even the best players in the league have to adjust to new situations.

Edit: Probably should have quoted somebody else here. I agree with you.

  3. That's true....what about Dennis though? I thought he was our future pg if Teague didn't pan out. And to answer your question "YES"...I don't like tanking but it needs to be done.By the way Scott deserves more of a starter role now with the way he's been playing and the wau the season is going now.

Parts of the Dennis situation confuse me. When he's in the game, he's almost always playing off the ball. When he's running the point, he makes some terrible turnovers but he also makes some pretty passes and layups. I just don't think he's ready and I don't think any good can come out of benching Teague. I wouldn't mind seeing Scott get some starts, but I'm cool with him coming off the bench. As long as he is getting meaningful minutes, I'll have no complaints.

  4. You can't tell me as a hawks fan that you know where this franchise is headed!-we aren't developing our future high potential players that are already on the team-we NEVER get top tier talent on free agency-we aren't tanking to get a better draft pick! What the hell are we doing?....

Mike and Shelvin have both been getting plenty of minutes and will continue to get plenty of minutes.Historically, the top free agents haven't signed here. Ferry can't change that.As AHF has pointed out in several threads, deciding to tank at this point in the season will (maybe) improve our draft slot by 2-4 picks. There is definitely a cost associated with tanking. Do we want to pay that cost to potentially move up a few slots in the draft?

  5. Blaming injuries is just denying that we degraded the roster 14 million annually in the last 2 years. When you give talent away and don't sign/trade for talent...you go back into the lottery. In any other season, 3 games under .500 doesn't normally make the playoffs. We are only in the chase because the East is so weak right now. If we were in the West, we would be 11th seed right now, 6 games behind the 8th seed.

Agree to disagree. I'll take this team (healthy) over any team we've had in recent memory.

  6. We are in the same place we thought we would be. We are heading to the playoffs looking at a first or second round exit. Healthy or hurt, we are in exactly the same place.

Concerning your response to my post, I definitely get why they are annoyed. I disagree with the last part of this post though. With a healthy roster, I think we could have made some noise in the playoffs -- maybe I'm just being a homer. Hurt, we're probably looking at a first round sweep unless two of Charlotte/Detroit/Cleveland/NY can pass us. Perhaps the end result will be the same, but I don't think a team that plays competitive ball is in the same place as a team in a tailspin.

  7. Lol. These reactions are great. The people who have been talking about tanking for the past four months are upset because Ferry didn't do much to make the team better at the deadline? The team can't get better and worse at the same time. Anyway, I wouldn't mind watching Jamison play on the Hawks for the next few months as long as he doesn't cut into Scott's minutes.

  8. I question whether or not Jeff really cares about winning. Far too often he just seems disinterested and I wonder whether it really matters to him or not. I think Jeff would go just about anywhere as long as he got his minutes and could get his shots.

I agree that his body language doesn't always suggest he wants to win, but I think most NBA players prefer winning to losing. If he's not going to get more money or more minutes, I don't see him accepting a trade from a playoff team to a losing team (especially since he should be entering his prime).

  9. Jeffy was a free agent like 8 months ago. He did not get an offer from a team above $8 million. Only one team, aside from us, valued him at $8 million. All of the sudden teams now believe he is worth at least $8.15 million? OK!

Not that I would argue many teams value Jeff at $8.15 million, but I think he would have had more suitors if he had been an unrestricted free agent.

  10. When Jeff signed the offer sheet with Milwaukee, he probably didn't think the Bucks would be the worst team in the league. If Ferry is trying to move him and if other teams are interested (two big ifs), my guess is that Teague would only accept a trade to a contender (or one of the western near-contenders). It seems unlikely to me but I wouldn't mind moving him.

  11. You guys still don't get it.

With Teague, people are literally begging him to be more aggressive. To do more on offense to help the team win. But when the same is asked from Korver, there is a problem?

Being aggressive for Korver, means working even harder to get open, and getting up shots with any amount of daylight he has, because he is one of the better shooters on the team.

The funny thing about JR Smith, is that he IS a 35% 3 point shooter. And what do we know about JR Smith? He's erratic as hell as a shooter. And most guys who shoot 35% from 3, fit that category.

All I'm asking from Korver is to get up more shots. Instead of 8 shots a game, try to get up 11 or 12 shots a game. If his shooting has fallen off since Horford went down, he needs to get up more shots so that we can get adequate production out of him.

Is that unreasonable to ask of him?

Many people believe he's the 3rd best player on the team. And he's definitely the 3rd highest paid player on the team. So shouldn't one of the better players be asked to do more to help his team, if others go down?

Get up more shots even if he doesn't have an open look? That doesn't sound like elevating your play. "Adequate production" isn't shooting the ball more. The thread title should have been: Why can't Kyle Korver play some inefficient basketball?

Would it be great if Korver could get a few more shots per gamer? Yes, of course. Do I want Korver taking bad shots because he's the third highest paid player on the team (sans Al)? No, definitely not. He can earn his $6.7 million by playing smart basketball and hitting open shots.

  12. Also since when is 35 percent so bad shooting from 3 that's like 50 per from 2 last I checked I will certainly take that for a slump and the team not getting him the ball on the times he is open of course less these days due to all the attention. This team needs to get healthy ASAP..

Here we go with the advanced stats to try to cover up for poor play.

Uh, what? What advanced stats? There is nothing advanced about an expected value. Shooting 35% from three is essentially the same as shooting 50% from two: 0.35(3) = 1.05, 0.50(2) = 1.

Is the contract too long? Maybe, that's debatable, but it sounds like you want him to start playing like JR Smith. Kyle works hard to get open and he's only going to take open shots. He's not going to start taking bad shots just because we're dealing with injuries. No sense in starting bad habits. As others have pointed out, it seems you expect him to shoot 75% from three, run the point, and serve up some windmill 360 dunks.
