  1. Keeping sap:

    1. Keeps us at Mediocrity... out of the lottery.

    2. He's not signed long enough to build around...

    3. Really puts the pressure on Horf to pack up.

IF Sap were on a 4 yr contract, maybe I keep sap and wait. However, because he is a 2 year guy, there's no reason to wait. Don't be mistaken.. This is a rebuild. We don't have enough nontradable talent to reload like the Lakers and SPurs do. IF you follow my plan.. yes it will be ugly. But in the end.. we might come out of it better than Kansas City.

Only way Millsap might get traded is if we fall out of contention next year. Otherwise, it's not happening. Ferry contacted Millsap the minute free agency began -- he's staying here.

  2. And I think Muscala's future was defined when we signed Antić... I say he's still ticketed for Europe. Further evidence of just that point is that we signed Antić, but still are kicking Oden's tires.

That's an idea I've seen tossed around but I don't really follow it. Why Europe and not the D-League?

  3. Shredder sucks...Posted Image dennis the menace is way way way better... not only is it based on a classic name that everyone knows but it really describes his game... he is a menace on D... he sticks with the opposing point guard getting in his grill like no other... i'm really impressed by that. Also he weaves through the other teams defense and finds the open man like some kind of god damn magic show...Posted Image a menace to the oppositions defense.Posted Image

Shredder, too, is based on a classic.

  4. Derrrr...brain fart. Forgot his name. Thanks, and I imagine sir foster will try this a few times. He already has some Paul Simon playing for Al jumpers.

Yeah, figured it was a brain fart. If you can hum the Linus and Lucy tune, you probably know the piano player's name. I'd imagine the same and hopefully he can have some fun with DMC as well.

  5. I know the song lw3, I immediately started humming it and I am sure people around me were annoyed. I may just be a little out of it today, but where is the connection with Denis?

The character playing the piano is named Schröder. (Edit: Schröder with an o and an e -- this is autocorrecting.)

  6. Agreed, Chalmers is a very underrated player. I was going to say that SMW I think you're a fantastic new poster but I see that you've been a member for a few years but just recently started posting. Darn shame as you have a very level head about you and seem to be very knowledgable as well.

Thanks man. My brother (who is also a member) told me about the Hawksquawk years ago and I mostly lurked after joining. I'm not sure what stirred me from my lurking slumber but one possible explanation is that JTB's enthusiasm is leaking across the internet.

  7. Same logic. Lebron is the key example of Long, versatile and athletic. Hell, I looked up and he was gaurding Tim Duncan in the finals. Chris Bosh is too. He plays 3, 4 or 5 and plays on the 3 pt line.See supe... anybody write their name on a box and call it theirs. That Heat team follows BK's mantra to a tee. And last year, they dominated an Advanced Analytics team in the finals and this year they beat an Advanced Analytics team in the finals. That BK is certainly a visionary... right. OR Maybe... Somebody was bright enough to figure out if you put three star players on the same team, they will win. Regardless of their advanced analytics.

What, because they have Lebron and Bosh they follow BK's mantra? Any GM in the league would be happy to have Lebron. He's not a BK type player, he's just the best player in the league. Bosh is clumsier than he is athletic and putting Bosh at the three point line is like putting Josh out there. So the team with two of the top PER/WS players in the league beat an advanced analytic team in the finals two consecutive years. Notice a trend? (Hint: Teams consisting of stathead type players tend to win more games than other teams.)Three star players ARE three analytic superstars. Figuring out that you should put three star players on the same team is the same thing as figuring out that you should put three advanced stat superstars on the same team.

  8. Uhm... Millsap & Utah. Millsap is every stathead's wet dream. Shoots over 50% from the field. Smart player, hardworker... But Utah didn't win a damn thing.

First of all, I should point out that I'm not talking about winning championships. I'm talking about winning in a more general sense. My guess is that you'll suggest that we should only be talking about winning championships. Who led the league in PER and win shares in each of the past two seasons? Lebron. Dwyane ranked among the best in each of those categories as well. Again, a player can be a stathead's wet dream AND a superstar. The argument I'm making: Teams consisting of stathead type players tend to win more games than other teams. And your argument is this: Because the Utah Jazz did not win a championship while Millsap was on their team, there is no correlation between analytics and winning. That's a poor argument and it suggests that you don't know what the term correlation means.Once more, Ferry is not a BK clone. BK looked for players who are long and athletic but these traits are not correlated with winning.
  9. Dam a team with 6'8 to 6'10 guys with no real pg or center just won the last 2 nba titles. Billy Knight is walking his dog and eating his peanuts with a smile on his face somewhere.

I think people don't give Chalmers enough credit. Lebron is the best player in the league and the advanced statistics reflect this. The other guys on that team who might fall under long/athletic are Bosh and Birdman. I'd argue that Bosh is as clumsy as he is athletic. They are undersized at center but I don't think they are a BK team.
  10. I'm not arguing that we shouldn't have traded Joe. It was time. However, in trading Joe... Ferry got us nothing back. Couldn't even get Marshon Brooks. All we got was capspace that we have since squandered. If the Hawks were so Terrible as a group.. I mean everybody hated Josh. Everybody hated Teague..Then why are we more respectful of the work that Larry Drew did? People applauded Ferry for replacing a .557 coach for an assistant who has never won a game?? Ferry doesn't seem to have a plan. One minute he states he wants good value, good guys. The next, he's courting Jennings and Ellis and Bynum.

Again, he never offered Bynum a contract. Again, the Jennings/Ellis talk looks like it was about the Bucks targeting Teague, not us targeting Jennings/Ellis. Drew inherited a playoff team and had a solid winning percentage. Ferry replaced him with a guy who is very well respected around the league. I wanted Brooks in that deal too but we didn't squander the cap space. He signed players to contracts that look to be very team friendly.
  11. BullShit... let me spell it out this time. IN BASKETBALL... The key to winning is star talent. NOT analytics. Take that to Baseball where it belongs.Utah has had great analytic good guys. They have never won a championship. They were closer when they had star talent. Just didn't have any that was better than Jordan/Pippen.Ferry means well but he fails to realize that the only thing that worked in San Antonio was Tim Duncan.

It's not bull man, there is definitely a correlation between analytics and winning. Statistics are unbiased records of what happens on the court. Star talent shows up in the advanced stats. A player can be a star talent and a stathead's dream -- these are not mutually exclusive categories.

  12. 1. JJ is the reason they have a team. Deron would be in Dallas. They would be a team with Gerald Wallace and Brooks that nobody wanted to play for. 2. You're right Drew's contract expire. So we didn't replace a guy with a .557 winning percentage. Instead we replace him with Danny's Boy. 0.557 is very impressive considering what Drew did it with. 1 yr, no Horford. 1 yr, no Joe. Last year, not only no Joe, but for most of the season, everybody injured at one time or another. NO Zaza. No Lou. And we replace .557 with Bud "I have never coached in the League". 3. It's not that we missed out on FAs. We knew that coming into this FAcy period, we would be a major player Money wise. Yet, it seems like we have Absolutely NO FREAKIN plan. He doesn't even feel the need to woo his targets.

You're probably right about JJ keeping Deron in Brooklyn but he is just a role player at this point. His contract was going to be a major burden for us if we didn't trade him. We did battle injuries last year and, as it has been said many times, Drew was great at coming up with plays out of timeouts. I'd still say that getting to the playoffs with a playoff caliber roster isn't a huge achievement. Edit: Yes, Bud has never been a head coach but most people around the league loved the move and Pop seems to have a ton of respect for Bud. We didn't know that we would be a major player, but we knew that we could be a major player. Making moves just because you have money isn't smart. Passing up on certain players doesn't mean there isn't a plan. I'd pass on the Iggy contract, I'd pass on the Evans contract, and I'm glad we let Josh walk.
  13. Billy King just might be the executive of the year after this year. If Brooklyn wins it all, I hope that as he holds the trophy that he thanks his good friend Danny Ferry for not knowing what he had.

Come on Diesel. JJ is, at best, the fourth scoring option on that team. Concerning your other post: He didn't fire Drew -- Drew's contract expired. Other than trading JJ and Marv, he didn't dismantle our team -- free agency did. The only player he left in the dark was Teague and I'm not sure Teague counts because we did extend a qualifying offer. We missed on one free agent. Who else did we target and miss out on?
