    1. Dejounte Murray has to be traded this offseason.  They cannot run it back with Trae Young and Dejounte Murray at the guard spots.  It is not going to work, and I had doubts that it would work when the deal was made.  They are too small together defensively, and offensively, Murray is not as willing to be a catch and shoot guy as he needs to be.  Trae is by far the better player between the two.  The Hawks are going to have to accept not getting what they feel is proper value for him.  If they can get New Orleans to include Dyson Daniels in a deal for, maybe take CJ McCollum off their hands, then do it.  Daniels is exactly the type of player this team needs right now.  No, he's not as good as Dejounte, but he's a long wing defender that can guard 1-3.  That ability helps the Hawks more than anything Dejounte brings to the table.  You also have to move him to create an opening for Kobe Bufkin to get time next season.  Kobe is a better defender of guards and wings right now than Dejounte is.  He's not Dejounte offensively, but that's not a bad thing with where the Hawks are at.
    2. DeAndre Hunter cannot be relied upon next season.  Ideally, they can move off his contract with a trade.  It would be a total salary dump though, and I'm not sure another team is going to be willing to take on that deal.  Hunter is their best perimeter defender when it comes to defending bigger wings, so there is a role for him.  However, the Hawks need a guy at this point that can guard guards.  Someone that can defend 1-3 and offers better, more consistent shooting than DeAndre.
    3. It's time to move on from Clint Capela and commit to Onyeka Okongwu as the starter.  We can do so much more offensively and defensively with Okongwu than we can with Capela.  The Hawks do need to add someone with size and athleticism to play as Okongwu's back up.
    4. The primary needs this team has going into the offseason is point of attack perimeter defense at the forward spots.  Probably at least two forwards must be added.
    5. There is no one in this draft who will play meaningful minutes on a good team this season, so if you are going into the draft thinking you are going to address a need, you are doing it wrong.

You think OO can be relied upon?

You poor old man.  I'm so sorry for you, being so old.  Hah!  I have children older than you!  I'm already 87.  Enjoy your youth while you still can!

Hawks have a lot of young pieces and two or three draft picks coming in.  Don't worry about those upcoming years (2) when we have no 1st round picks.  Instead, concentrate on what we already have available and what we may get in trade for some of our current players.  Our biggest need?  Draft them or trade for them.

Hawks have some players that should be available for trade this summer.  Build from this.  We all need to drop the daydream that this Hawk team could be great if only we hadn't lost all those draft picks.  When did we ever draft an all-NBA player?

    :smug:

    You're lucky @Gray Mule..

    And so are your kids.....

    I doubt I live that long..

My Grandmom on my Mothers side died in her late 30's from breast cancer

My Grandad on Mothers side died early 70's from liver disease

Both grandparents on my Fathers side were dead when I was born from health problems...

I'm praying I get to see my Grandkids..

My son is 19 and a freshman in College,  and Im like hurry up, Im not going to be around forever .. 😀

    Who do we keep? Why?

extra credit: player you think would fit here in a trade.

Since neither Trae or Murray is your number 1 on a championship team, why not take the guy who is more well rounded, has better leadership skills, and is not on a Max deal?

I don’t really want to pay a Max deal on a number 2 who plays no defense.

Something like Trae for Mikal Bridges or one of the Pels wings and picks(if we could get that) would make the team a lot better IMO

yes we know.. you’ve beat this opinion to death

I just think its too hard to build around him with his lack of size length and athleticism..

UNLESS we have an absolute BEAST of a frontcourt..

And BIG physical wings(not the kind that look like Tarzan but play like Jane.. Cough cough Dre) that can be disruptive on D + score every where else..

Can the Hawks F.O. make that happen?

    I doubt it..

Something like Trae, MIkal Bridges, Herb Jones, with Garnett and Shaq might work..... lol

But seriously, if the Hawks don't add SIZE this offseason................................THEY ARE NOT SERIOUS ABOUT WINNING...

The idea of starting over is always better than the reality. Look at Detroit. They would have taken starting over 10 out of 10 times once Griffin was done but look at them now. They are stuck in mud.

Pistons had a lot of injuries too or they probably had 30- 35 wins like us.. lol

    Oh really?

Its only when its Trae y'all have a problem with it..  smh

Anyone else they just pile on... But whatever..

This is what peak tanking looks like for those calling for it. Be careful what you wish for.

Nah draft a young PG like Reed Shephard or Dillingham and a new center with Kings pick to go with JJ Gueye Kobe ...

Shephard Bufkin JJ Gueye New center would be way more fun team to watch that ugly shit you just posted.. lol

Not to mention all of the extra $ and future picks from the trades...

We'll be back in the playin in no time.. 😂

OKC has done it better but it's the same roadmap.  We stockpiled picks drafted high and have been building around them.  Unfortunately we didn't do it as well and had no stability in the front office.   But that doesn't mean we should abandon the process because we are sitting on one and potentially two elite players right now.

They are soon going to have big salary decisions to make too.

"We didn't do it as well"

    Understatement of the year...

    THAT'S A NO FOR ME!

We need to get past the 'getting picks back from SAS." It's a pipe dream. As long as we keep that the focus we'll never move past it.

We took a chance on DJ and if it's not working, sometimes it just doesn't- deal with that portion of it and move on. (Dallas took a chance on KP it didn't work, they moved on, it happens).

All this would do is give Ressler more time and excuses to not spend to put a real quality product on the court. Why make it easy?

Anybody thinks Quin wants a total rebuild?

Tearing it down is easy. Building it back up is the hard part. This is where we are....the HARD PART of our last rebuild. DO THE WORK!!

It requires a real commitment (not just lip service) from ownership, a real plan with proper execution from the front office and a buy in from the coach.  There's no Easy Button.

    GET TO WORK!

    "Building it back up"

    To where we are now?

We're a fringe playin team.. lol

This only works if you trade Trae to SAS for our picks + assets. Otherwise, we’re just tanking for their sake.

I’m not ready to give up on Trae. Not easy to find 27/10 players and I’m not going to just assume we luck into another superstar in the draft. We’re more likely to find another Sheldon or Marv Williams. Also not ready for years of unwatchable basketball.

I think we trade DJM this summer and make a final run at this with Trae and Quin. Find some better fits and run this back until our debt to the Spurs is paid.

    Its unwatchable now.. lol

"I'm gonna be old and gray and we're still going to be looking for the right fits around Trae"

I said this a while back...

My 54th birthday is next month.. lol

I haven't been active much and I apologize for that.

I have thought about this post for some time. I can't keep tilting at windmills because one wonderful playoff run we *almost* won a title. That was going on 4 seasons ago.

This team does not work. The only way to really do this right is a complete tear down. Keep Jalen and guys on rookie contracts not named AJ Griffin.

Flip Trae to the Spurs for our picks plus some of the ones they control.

Flip DJ for whatever the best deal is.

Flip Hunter for whatever the best deal is.

Flip Capela...OO....Bogi. Just keep moving them out, collect assets for future drafts and start all over with Quin and Hawks U over at College Park.

This franchise is in a horrible place. We have no picks or a swap the next three straight seasons after this upcoming draft. This team is a play in at best with the holes on the roster. We have an owner that is beyond cheap.

There's no easy fix or even a tough fix for this. It simply does not WORK. We need to go back to a rebuild. We have enough good players to at least get a jump on a rebuild. Going down the path we've been where the FO does basically nothing except make the roster worse so the seventh richest owner in the NBA doesn't pay the LT is simply madness.

    My thoughts exactly...

I'd much rather watch a rebuilding team than this mess...

No one is asking you to care.  I'm just pointing out that lots of people are criticizing Trae for things they don't criticize anyone else in the league for.   Not sure how else to put it.

I only care about the Hawks man... Don't care what Lots of people are doing...Yall gonna make excuses for the guy until the cows come home regardless of what he does so.....

  12. 1 hour ago, macdaddy said:

There'd be no 'superstars' left in the league if we banned them for that move.   I mean what are we doing here.  Trae gets all the hate for things that 15 other guys in the league do every game.

Its not just the foul baiting.... Its the whining to the refs when you don't get the call, not getting back on Defense, leading to an easy bucket for the Bulls..

The excuses made for this guy are so infuriating.. smh

I'm ok with trading him if the right deal is there but i'm also good to start next year with a Jalen/OO frontcourt.  Undersized but they create a lot of problems in other ways and they seem like they could really be the tone setters for this team.

    "Undersized"

    Just no

    I want a real CENTER

Unlike the many Trae haters, I actually really really like Trae on a championship team. That’s why the Lakers are drooling over him.

however the way the roster was constructed around him with lots of subpar defensive play, it’s been that which created these results.

somebody in the front office must have the defensive standings and ratings pulled up… right?

Yall need to stop blaming everyone else for the Hawks shortcomings when our Max player is doing shit like this

    Just flat out ridiculous

I'll always root for the Hawks, but I'm so over this dude..

    Call it what you want...
