  1. For the record - Camby's base salary is $8 million. He has a ton of incentives - most based on games played - if he goes 65 games which is what is expected - he'll make $10 mil - and thus his cap number. He can make up to about $11.8 or so on other incentives - but his expected salary as ruled by the league - is $10 mil
  2. teams looking for a 3 (or even a 4) had Artest and Deng on the radars as well as Smith - with those two now off the market - along with the already traded Mike Miller and Richard Jefferson - and with Marion expected to stay put - and the Lakers holding onto Odom - Smith becomes even more attractive - basic supply and demand - supply be shrinkin'. I don' t know if that translates into anything - I still think the qualifying offer is the most likely.
  3. thx - I've lurked through the years here - even posted from time to time whenever Atlanta has been on my radar vis a vis the Lakers or Clippers. My gut says that Smith takes the qualifying offer. As far as going for cap room - believe me - free agents will sign in Atlanta next year (if it comes to that) - because there are so few teams with space and a number of high quality guys coming up. Of course the ASG may decide to wait another year for the LeBron, Wade, Amare summer fiesta. We shall see. I appreciate the welcome. EP
  4. Hey all, Here is my break down of the Josh Smith situation – as far as it relates to the mysterious BYC factor: Rumors: Josh Smith and BYC http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=9629 Thanks Eric PS - Please don't post the article itself in the forum - a paragraph or 2 is fine - but otherwise my editors get finicky.
  5. Clippers aren't in it - they value Kaman tremendously - they chose Camby's short term over Smith's long.
  6. well first of all th maximum he can get paid at this point is $13,758,000. With that - the Hawks can bring back a maximum of $6,879,000 * 125% + $100,000 = $8,698,750 The Magic would be credited with bringing in $13,758,000 in salary. To bring in that much they would have to send out a minimum of $10,926,400 in salary. The Hawks can't bring in that much - so you have a problem. If you add Speedy - it changes the numbers some - and opens up a window within a specific margin that might work for some teams.
  7. The HoopsHype numbers are not accurate - I get mine from a league source - I mentioned it in a different thread but I'm a reporter for HOOSPWORLD.com
  8. i broke it down above - in your example though - the Hawks give up what little they have at center - can't see that. Plus LA doesn't need Zaza - they're looking to bring back Kwame and already have Bynum, Mihm and Gasol. The simplest deal is usually the most likely - you'd probably need to take out Mihm/Zaza - but as I detailed - Odom for Smith/Claxton works just fine 2-way
  9. if he signs the qualifying offer - he would then attain veto power on any trade. plus the salary coming back would have to match - so it would be difficult to move him for a big name salary
  10. the Lakers would consider Odom - though that's no lock that they trade him. They'd' move guys like Vlad and Walton of course. They won't trade Kobe, Fisher, Sasha, Bynum and Gasol. If they were getting their future at the point - they'd trade Farmar. Other players might be throw ins - but the only "big piece" they'd really consider is Odom. If that's not good enough for the Hawks - or if LA won't make that move - then so be it.
  11. another team may or may not overpay to get Smith - the point being it is possible and therefore legal - it becomes a judgement of whether or not they do that - which is subjective and unknown - but possble? that's proven. Likely? who knows?
  12. yes it does - Odom = $14,148,596 to match the Hawks have to be credited with sending out $11,238,876.50 in salary. That multipled by 125% + $100,000 = Odom's $14,148,596 Josh Smith at $10,962,117 starting salary counts as $5,481,058.50 to the Hawks (technically i'm not sure if the NBA rounds up or down the 50 cents - I'll have to look into that) Speedy is $5,757,818 For the Lakers their incoming salary needs to be less than or equal to Odom's salary * 125% + $100,000 The combination of Smith + Speedy = $16,719,935 That easily works for the Lakers since the max they can take in for Odom is $17,785,745 For the Hawks, the combination of Smith accouting for byc ($5,481,048.50) + Claxton totals $11,238,876.50 As I noted above - that's the number the Hawks need to send out In other words - it's legal.
  13. Add Claxton and it's not very difficult - if a team is willing to take him on. For instance Smith + Claxton for Odom
  14. right - the one thing missing is a link to say "watch topic" or the ability to go and edit the post - and then click watch cause I missed it on the original - so I posted that extra one at the end just to get the watch going. In other words - yes in a new post or reply - but if you miss it you have to do an additional post to get the watch going
  15. Evans is a really positive guy - good to be around - good in the locker room. The reason the Lakers traded him is that ultimately he's a small forward - he doesn't really have guard skills - average to below handle - limited court vision - good finisher. He's just not that tall and LA had other options they preferred at the 3. He's a good but not great defender - he doesn't really hurt you - but he doesn't shut guys down either. Above average athlete - nice work ethic - solid locker room guy. He's a good pickup but he's not a tremendous difference maker. Gotta rely on the stars for that - which makes sense considering the price.
