  1. Hey guys..I have not posted here in ages but have always followed the debates here..I have watched this team go through years of being somewhere in between a 3 or 4 seed to being awful, rebuilding and then being back to a 3 or 4 seed again..The Dominique years, the Mutumbo, Mookie, Smith and Laettner years..Then watched Babcock tear it down, watched BK have poor luck in the lottery. and when he had good luck he drafted the wrong guy..The Sund did his best Babcock impression and brought us back to a 4/5 seed with no chance to ever win it all..Ferry has finally given us a chance..Make the trade..Give up Horf, Teague and a pick or 2..If Howard comes here and likes it great..We will have a chance to win..If Howard comes here bitching and moaning, we can either sign and trade him for the likes of Lopez(who is not bad) and others, or force him to sign without a deal leaving us in a spot to sign at least 2 max contract guys(maybe Paul and Bynum?)..A guy like Paul might like to come here with a blank slate and be able to build his own team and a guy like Bynum might follow..Re sign Smoove or sign and trade Smoove for another star and we have our own mini superteam..Roll the dice

  2. I find it hard to be anything but positive on a 5-0 team but there are a few things that have jumped out at me. Our interior offense and defense seem to be weakness thus far. We rebound the ball very well but we have no one outside of a glimpse from Morris that shows a hint of a real post game. Solo rebounds well and blocks a few shots but still gets pushed around by stronger players. Horford is totally disconnected on the offensive end. Hopefully Woody can use a combination of players to get a little more production inside. I would like to see more of Morris along with Horford at the 4 and see how that combo plays out. I think the free throw shooting will work itself out.

  3. Scratch Swift as trade with a pick, he is expiring. He may be aquired by a potential as Gardner alone, if we go luxury tax for a year. Swift in a contract year could be "Big" (I could not resist that).

No one would trade anything for Gardner. He is struggling just to make a team and there are dozens of guys just like him available to anyone.

  4. Hotlanta - My wife was dissappointed after all the hype when she saw it this weekend because of heightened expectations so don't get too up there with it. The plot is pretty standard and predictable stuff but, IMO, it is well executed and a very solid popcorn flick. Hope you enjoy it!

I thought it was pretty good but like all original super-hero movies it spends alot of time on the origin and less time on the plot. It always seems to me the follow up movies are more entertaining after all the origin stuff is established.

I have heard alot of rumors about future Ironman/Hulk/Spiderman/Captain America combination movies. Those could be pretty entertaining.

On the DC comic side I have heard whispers about a future Superman/Batman combo movie.

I remember when I was a kid and my brother and I rushed to buy the Superman vs. Spiderman series that DC and Marvel did together. Those were great. And Yes, I am dork.

  5. Really really thought that??? :nono:

He is Mike Bibby. Of course he is going to be injured just like Speedy is Speedy. Bibby should be gotten rid of soon because he is a gimp like Speedy. Another brilliant job by Billy to select another gimpy PG.

Bibby has been very durable until last season. He only has a strain so why take any chances on making it worse for a preseason game?

  6. Well it's simply the fact that when the currencies go south, the world turns to gold. Stock prices usually go up.

I was thinking of making a group in www.stocksquest.com for Hawksquawk. Just to see how we all do in investments.

Diesel is right about gold. If you invest 100 dollars in gold in 10 years you still have 100 dollars. Over time the stock market ALWAYS makes money. What you have to do is learn to be patient and ignor short term gains or loses.

  7. You may be right but picking a bottom is pretty tough. Usually the bottom can only bee seen in hindsight.

Yeah I know its an inexact science but I have heard 8000 from alot of people I know and respect as their jumping in point. When its hits I expect the market to jump back up very quickly and balance itself out between 9500 and 10500 untill after the elections.

  8. This is really getting ridiculous.

I was cash in my 401k most of the year (except for my company stock which i sold two months ago) i bought in on the drop and lost nearly 10% so i cashed out and decided to wait. The S&P 500 is currently down 17% from when i sold which was just last friggin week.

In my regular account i have just been trading in and out with very mixed results. My shorts haven't had the best timing and it is definitely tough to short with the market down this much because the reversals can be so fast. When i have tried to buy the dip i keep getting nailed and forced to take a loss.

    This is really getting rough.

Today i just said screw it and bought back in with my 401k which will execute at the close. But i am still in WTF mode with my regular account. I don't know what to do.

Wait till it bottoms out which should be somewhere between 8000 and 8500 on the Dow Jones. It should hit that mark either tomorrow or Monday. Then buy back in and and watch it climb. All the investors I know, including me, have been looking for the 8000 mark as the bottom.

  9. Smoove doesn't have a history of Mediocrity.

    Come on ATLien..

I'm sure you got 1 excuse from the Marvin Excuse files.

I like Swish's too much pressure.

    I have a new one.

Marvin is so concerned with the financial markets that he can't focus! When the Market stabilizes, Marvin will be back to form!

Come on Diesel. Smoove averages 17/8 and Marvin averages 15/6. Smoove blocks more shots but Marvin plays a little better man on man defense. Smoove plays the 4 so he should average a couple extra rebounds a game. Marvin shoots foulshots better and the both suck beyond the 3 but at least Marvin doesn't hoist them up everygame. Smoove averages almost double the turnovers of Marvin and takes 2 more shots per game. Both guys are young and inconsistant as hell. Are you telling me that 2 points per game makes Marvin mediocre and Smoove a star? Where are the facts to suppport your claim?

  10. Yeah sorry about that, I removed the link but I'm gonna leave the post up just because I hate to delete posts when I ban people. Apparently there is a rash of new bots now that can register on boards and post getting around the 'captcha' when registering, but I just applied a patch so hopefully that will help prevent this.

    Thanks man

  11. Probably as well known for his philanthropy as he was for his acting and racing. Truly a great human being.

He had donated over 150 million dollars to make the world a better place. He was a fine actor and a great man. RIP

  12. The question is whether or not being a top 20 scorer is worthy of the largest contract in league history. I think that for the amount they are paying him they would want a lot more.

The honeymoon won't last long with his current play. I hope the money was worth the pounding he is going to take if he doesn't improve quickly. Chillz game just doesn't fit the euro style of play. I really can't understand how they ever thought it was going to be a good fit.

  13. I really like Ned Yost when he was the Braves Third Base coach. He has a lot of fire (like Cox does). Plus Yost has been managing in the National League for the last 4 years of so and really helped bring the Brewers franchise back to being revelant for the first time since Robin Yount and Paul Moulitor (Sp ?).

I could see Bobby giving Yost the invite to come back and be a bench coach. I would love to see him be the heir apparent in waiting to take Bobby's place when he decides to retire.

I like Pete Corrales too but he is about as old as Cox.

You guys like Ned Yost as a longterm solution after Cox for the Braves ?

I was shocked the Brewers let him go at this point of the season. I can't ever remember a manager being fired with his team in full contention this late in the year.

  14. The South Carolina Gamecocks has to be the worst name in all sports. It just gives too many opportunities to be made fun of. I sort of like the Thunder. It is appropriate for Oklahoma. I think some of the really bad ones are from teams that moved and should have changed names..The Jazz being far and away the worst.

BTW..Did you guys know the Athletics came within an eyelash of being in Atlanta before the Braves? Charley Findley got a better offer from Oakland at the last minute. The old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was actually being built for the A's. Imagine how different that wold have been.

  15. I think Atlas and I are responding more to the initial post that asked why two players with equal impact are viewed so differently. My response to that was just to say that there is no real argument that their impact is equal.

That being said, Marv does get too much hate. So does Josh though. With Marv it is because he is not Paul or Williams. With Smith it is because he is so raw still that his confidence tends to rub people the wrong way.

I think I probably worded my intial post poorly. For the record I believe that at this point Smoove is clearly the better player. That being said he is not so substantually better than Marvin to justify his almost universal praise as compared to Marvins day in and day out bashing.

  16. Corrected.

That's comparing year 4 Josh Smith to year 3 Marvin Williams. Marvin makes it look even more in interesting if you compare their year 3's.

By the way, this is not me hating on Josh Smith, this is me cracking up at how some of you say such horrible things about Marvin and yet his numbers are equal, close to, or better Josh Smith in many categories all the while having all these horrific flaws.

That is my point exactly. Their numbers are very close but the perception is that Josh is a rising star and Marvin is a bust.

  17. Both Smoove and Marvin are young 3/4 tweeners with strengths and weaknesses in their games. Smoove is a little over aggressive and Marvin is a little timid. Offensively they are a wash. Smoove averages 2 more points a game while taking 2 more shots a game. Smoove by virtue of his defensive assignment gets more rebounds as he is usually near the basket while Marv is usually on the perimeter. Smoove is a great shotblocker but is also prone to turn the ball over and take bad shots. Marvin is a much more vanilla player as he plays a much more conservatively and makes fewer mistakes. All and all these 2 guys are similar as far as positive impact on the court.

My question to the board is why Smoove is almost universally beloved by Hawks fans and why is Marvin the constant target of naysayers. Is it because of who we passed over to draft Marvin? If we had passed over Chris Paul and Deron Williams to draft Smoove would he be constantly compared to those 2 or would he still be loved? Is it because Smoove is a local kid that was a low risk draft choice that paid off handsomely? Is it because Smoove is flashy and Marvin isn't? I am interested in the opinions of others here on this subject. I have rarely seen 2 guys whose impact is similar whose perceptions are so different

  18. Hey dude Diesel is right. I am an Investigator with DFCS and you don't want us involved if you can help. I always encourage family to fix their own problems if they can but sometimes they can't. I am a near expert on this matter and just email me if you want to find out your options. There is alot that can be done but if you feel that you need outside involvement DFCS could help. The only catch is that someone in the family would may have to take physical custody of the child while we deal with the parent and if no one in the family isn't willing to take the child in while we investigate and setup services then that means that the child will go into foster care. Tell me what county you live in and I can tell you what avenues you have outside of DFCS or what to expect if you decide to call. I swear some women pick the worst men in the world to have children with. If u and you wife are interested in getting custody of the child let me know and I can direct you on what you need to do. In your wildest dreams you couldn't imagine the horrors that I have witnessed done to children so it is the ultimate reward whenever I can help a child have a better chance at life or help a family become stronger.

I agree completely. As long as there is family who cares it needs to stay within the family. I have a friend who has a horror story involving dfcs and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Hey Wurider. When you get a chance send me a pm or an email to tandtnkenn13@yahoo.com. I would like to get advice from you concerning the friend I mentioned above. Thanks man
