BYC is tricky no doubt but many more deals than for trade exception can be done.
I'll point to a comment made in the "BYC Makes Smith So Hard to Trade" thread
There are a lot more deals than just Josh for a TE. Tricky - yes. Impossible? No.
You also have to consider the makeup of the team you trade with. For example the Lakers depend quite a bit on Odoms point forward ability much like the Bulls did with Pippen under Jackson. Smoove simply cannot be a point forward. I could see him fitting very well between Gasol and Odom as their skills are a perfect compliment with his, but the Lakers also have Bynum. I have always thought of Smoove as a Dennis Rodman type of player with much greater ability. I might think Jackson might view him in a similar way. Jackson seems to have the ability to get players to play within themselves and in order for Smoove to be a great player he has to learn that. Many people here have said the Lakers would never move Bynum but I disagree. They are trying to win a championship this year and next. An Odom, Smoove and Gasol frontline is very similar to the Pippen, Rodman, and Wennington frontlines that along with Jordan were so successful under Jackson except way more talented. There is also the fact that the Lakers are interested in bringing Kwame back. Unless they were thinking of moving a big they are already stocked with Gasol, Bynum, and Mihm. So maybe Bynum is a possibility and his salary could make a deal work. I could see them telling Smoove we will pay you the money and you be our Rodman and concentrate on defense and rebounding and get your points in the flow of the game. They also know in the next couple of years that in order to win a championship they will likely have to go through Boston and few guys play Garnett as well as Smoove.

The only way I would do a deal from the Lakers is if it included Andrew Bynum because Smoove for Odom isn't good enough.
Good to see that we're close to signing Randolph for cheap. If he signs for the LLE we should be able to bring Kwame and possibly Devin Brown in to solidify our bench.
If Bynum was involved it would have to be a deal I would strongly consider. I think he is the 2nd best young center in the NBA.

The only way I can legitimately see us trade Smoove is if we get an extremely talented young player still on his rookie deal, due to BYC rules and needing to get back equal talent.
Western Conference Powers? Lakers, Suns, Spurs, Jazz, and Mavs?
Eastern Conference Big Dog? Detroit, Cavs, Wizzards, and maybe the Heat or Knicks?(Those last two based on recent success or market size..
Any deal to bring back a top player or 2 would probably have to include Speedy or Zaza to get the salry numbers to work.

"This is the End....
this is the End.....my Friend..."
No way in the world this trade would ever happen but can you imagine GS with a Smoove Biedrins frontline?

I love the new forum Dolfan, its great. Im loving all the new options in it, and finding it fairly easy to navigate. Great stuff mate. :Applause:
Great new site Dolfan. Thanks so much for all the work. One question. Is there any way to get a threaded view?

{mrH here}
Childress' QO has zero effect on anything this year.
Evans' signing, however, comes out of the MLE. So, it likely means that either $2.3M or $2.5 (depending on the structure of his deal) are to be subtracted from the MLE total of $5.585. Basically, there's $3M left from the MLE.
Exactly..We can sign anyone using the rest of the MLE for up to 5 years. We can also use the LLE to sign someone for about 1.8 a year I think. The good news is with the Mo Evans signing we can resign Smoove at whatever number they agree to, and also add depth in the post without going over the Luxury tax. If Sund is creative he can really address all our needs.

I got this feeling Solomon is not in the plans anymore.
Hunter is only 6'8" but plays big in the post especially on defense. He has a very nice mid range jumper. He is a guy that would have been a late 1st rounder if he was an inch taller. He could very well replace Solomon.
-
Sekou was simply wrong about that. . The caphold has nothing to do with the MLE.
-
Good signing. I would take Evans at 2.5 million over Chilldress at 7 million everday.
-
11 is fair but if they had to start at 11 and escalate it to 12 that would be ok also. That would split the difference between Boguts contract and the one Ellis just got. I think bigs have slightly more value than guards.
-
I don't think its a debate between Evans and Jackson. We actually could use both. Jackson is a lost cost gamble I prefer over Richardson that could pay off nicely. Evans would be a guy to replace Chillz..
-
I read that Phil Jackson really liked Kwame's defense. That is good enough for me if he comes at the right price.
-
Apparently he backed out. The Warriors matched Azubuiki(sp). They had stated if they matched him they wouldn't sign Evans. Putting 2 and 2 together it appears he backed out just as Chillz signed in Greece so he may be headed here.
-
I remember when we drafted him there were some reports that he had alot of promise..Anyone have any updates?
-
I agree. The rumor last week from Detroit that they were offering Amir and Prince for Smoove sort of worries me now. I hope the Hawks don't panic and take a lesser deal just to fill both spots.
-
I am trying to make sure I understand where the Hawks stand with the slary cap, luxury tax and the MLE.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
1) Even if we start Smooves contract at 11 or 12 million, we still have the full MLE to use on 1 or 2 guys? Is this correct? Sekous article confused me on that one.
2) We don't gain anything by renouncing Chillz? Is this correct?
-
Since when is Chillz an NBA star? He is a middle of the road NBA player who they overpaid to get. The Euro leagues are up and coming but they are just now getting the resources to throw money at NBA guys and succeed in getting them. I wouldn't exactly call Delfino and Chilldress stars. And is is ALL about the money. Don't fool yourself.
-
Of course not. They are cowards. They should have been on the airwaves as soon as this news broke to explain to their fans what the course of action will be. They should be open with their fans for better or worse. This media blackout policy they have only leads to more distrust.
-
The only truthful thing he can say is more money, more money and once again more money. Thats the beginning and end of it.

Don't forget JR Rider to give the young guys guidence counseling. Young dudes gotta know the difference between a dimebag and an eightball.

Quote:Quote:haha and Marvin will have to play 48 min now and will not exit at 6 min mark. The question now is will Diesel still be watching?
He will be watching every game; and you know he will post every bad game ol Marvin has....
Exactly..I always picture Diesel as Dr. Evil wearing a 60's style bad guy suit and giving the evil laugh every time Marvin misses a shot. bawahahahahahahahahaha..I'll give you 1 million dollars to take Marvin off our hands..ok..I billion dollars...bawahahahahaha
-
I agree, the ASG could save face by quickly signing Smith and extending an offer to JR.
-
I love JR's talent but you have to wonder how well he and Woody would coexist. I also hope we save part of the MLE for a big.

Why would Denver trade a 21 million expiring contract for a 14 million expiring contract along with gimpy Speedy who they would have to pay another year? On top of that A.I. is a much better player than Bibby.
I Asked Bruce If He Realized That...

I think its the casual fan they know they can fool. People like us are basketball fans no matter what but in Atlanta there just aren't that many of us. To the casual fan Joe Jhnson is the face of the team. Horford has a nice outgoing personality and plays hard. Bibby is a big name they recognize. To many of the casual fans I have talked to the Mike Vick hangover clouds their perception of Smoove. They consider him talented but somewhat combustable. They see 12 million as too much to pay an inconsistant guy who has had a few attitude problems. If the ASG fails to bring him back or get good value for him its the casual fan that will be the most forgiving.
