  1. Actually, that's very questionable too!!!

I was watching the re-entry of Columbia into KSC. It was going 16,600 mph and had to bank off it's speed (which happened from Hawaii to FL)... To think that a spacecraft can do the same thing (back with 60s technology) is doubtful. Moreover, has anybody ever seen the flag or the moonmobile via telescope?

    By the way...

we have surface pictures from Mars...

    opportunity_mro_big.jpg

    No moon pictures?

If you look very closely at the picture you will see the camera mast shadow is actually Marvin sitting next to a rock eating bon bons reading a Buck Rogers comic book...Veeeerrryyy Interesting....

  2. I think the bigman we sign will be more of a power forward than center. Solo is the only 4/5 type we have as a backup and I question his ability to defend the 4 spot against quick 4's. I think Marvin won't spend any time at the 4 simply because Chillz is gone to back up the 3 spot. I don't think either Morris or Zaza can guard the 4 spot at all. They are both slow footed traditional centers. I hope we go after a thick bodied banger or a guy that can step outside and his a jumper. I won't be surprised at all to see Hunter make the team and be the backup 4.

  3. If we assume Solo is going to be on the team that gives us 4 guys that are centers in Horf, Zaza, Solo and Morris. Regardless of the debate on Horfs natural position he is going to spend almost all of his time at the 5. I don't think any of the other guys can effectively guard any of the quicker 4's around the league. All this leads me to believe that we may focus on a strong bodied or a shooting power forward for our last signing.

  4. Sure he can. Speedy has a guaranteed contract if he plays or retires (as he has injured). To shrink would be to not rehab, to not fight injury and remain in the fold. Sure he could have shrunk, but it is not his nature. Speedy wants it and I hope he gets it.

    When did Speedy play injured?

  5. One thing I have always liked about the Hawks recently is that we have good character guys. No one pulls a Ruben Patterson and has trouble in the legal sense. Now I don't know too much about Flip, but for some reason I think there was something about him that went wrong legally? I could be wrong, but if there was some legal troubles for him then I am a little disappointed. I definitely like the aspect of the Hawks that we don't have bad apples, but maybe someone could correct me about Flip? Did he have any problems? If not then good, I like the aspect of us being an upstanding team with 0 legal problems (aside from our owners).

I thought I remembered something also but did a few searches and couldn't find anything...Though many thousands of Murrays seem to get arrested according to Google..lol

All and all I like this move. This is the kind of signing that will win us a game or 2 as he gets hot off the bench.

  6. Alot of guys have issues that never get published. Some guys make mistakes and everybody knows about them. The thing I welcome is the toughness from Mo and Flip. You have competitors that will not shrink. It helps Josh, Marvin, Zaza, Solo and hopefully Law. They need to address the shrinkish tendencies. Al, Joe, Bibs and Speedy, don't shrink.

I guess its hard for Speedy to "shrink" as he is watching on the bench in a suit or from his living room.

  7. I went back and watched some Kentucky vs Florida games where Morris was playing against Noah and Horford. I am being completely honest when I say Morris clearly looked like the most talented bigman on the floor. Offensively he was much better around the basket than Noah or Horf. I watched some of the old clips of Morris vs Howard back in highschool and Morris looked every bit as good as Howard at that point.

I am not saying Morris is going to be as good as Howard or even Horf but I am saying that if he works hard and keeps his mind right this guy can be a pretty good center. He made a bad choice to play for Tubby Smith who has a system that doesn't let individual talent shine. Morris made an even bigger mistake going to the Knicks playing for an idiot like Isiah and being stuck on the bench behind guys like Curry and Randolf. Morris is a guy with the reputation of being a chameleon. He sort of adapts his work ethic and personality to those around him so obviously the Knicks were a horrible match for him. Coming home to Atlanta and playing with guys like Horford, JJ and Bibby, along with an intense guy like Smoove who is a close friend may be the recipe for Morris to finally play up to his talent. Just watching his talent makes me think the Hawks may have found a diamond in the rough.

  8. No, it isn't odd. I know how to read and discern information. Sekou does nothing for me. I hate to tell you, but "beat writers" of good teams are a little more critical. They also understand the mechanisms in place to continue winning. I'm a Braves fan. I know a good beat writer when I read it. Sekou never talks about critical issues. He just name drops or talks about how so and so is just so silly(i.e. doug collins), who by the way, has forgotten more about basketball than Sekou could ever learn. Duff Man and I don't normally agree, but he's dead on about Sekou. Smug is the word.

It should be Sekou's job to understand the game, be pertinent with his information, and yes, when there is an overwhelming amount of evidence to suggest the ASG is incompetent, he should be critical... of the ASG... not Doug Collins, get it?

Again, Sekou and the Hawks deserve each other.

As many factual errors as Sekou makes regarding the 1 team he is supposed to know everything about I just find it hard to believe he is attempting to call someone else out about a mistake.. The more Sekou writes the less respect I have for his abilities.

  9. Its more than that, some of the argument for not taking Paul was that Joe wouldn't have come here if it weren't for some sort of assurance he'd be point guard... that running the point was what made ATL more attractive, not the fact that we were willing to pay him a boatload more than anyone else. Since that wasn't the case, the reason we picked Marv over Paul/Deron is because BK (and apparently Woody) actually liked him better.

The Jose thing is depressing too. I was really hoping to land him because I'd been living in Canada for few years at the time and everyone loved him. I woulda traded Marv or Chil for him but if we could have done just Chil, I would have been thrilled. A lot worse in hindsight too.

Since we didn't even have JJ when we drafted Marvin the whole topic is sort of silly. All it does is reinforce the fact BK and Woody don't have a clue.

  10. Pros

    • 1 more year of expeience for our youngsters
We got a taste of the playoffs
Bibby will be close to %100
      Speedy could be...COULD BE..healthy
We got a much needed big in Morris
We added another 3pt threat in Mo Evans

    Cons

    • Childress is gone
All aquired FA's are no names and have done nothing, excluding Mo Evans
      We kept Woodson
Smith 'may' be a disgruntled player with the way things played out in FA (I'm doubting this one, but I've heard it from others)

    Yes

I think having Bibby for the entire season is worth 7 or 8 more wins. Add that to the maturing of Horf, Smoove and Marvin and I think we are a 45 win team.

  11. Bibby's contract may be the most valuable asset he brings to the table next year.

You know we can get something for a big fat expiring deal.

The Hawks didn't do anything last season until they brought in Bibby. I find it interesting to see everyone want him traded at the deadline. Acie hasn't proven jack squat and Speedy is a wet papertowel ready to fall apart.

  12. Alright...truth of the matter...if I were the GM I would not have taken CP3. I would have screwed up just like BK did. I would also not have taken Deron (I thought he was fat and slow) and I wouldn't have taken Marvin. I would have traded down and gotten JJack and another pick or more.

The only reason I wouldn't have taken CP3 was because of the "nut busting" incident. In hindsight I guess we all have to forgive a mistake or two.

If you had it to do all over again - what would you have done?

I wanted Bogut or Paul and my old posts will confirm it. I just didn't see the need for yet another small forward.

  13. What? You are ridiculous, you said nothing that actually adds up or even is true. Why not cite a source instead of pulling crap out of the air? Everything I have read shows Ewing as 7 ft. so point to something saying he wasn't.

And I found an article about Olajuwon talking about his height:

    http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...755C0A962958260

He says closer to 6-10, which means he is somewhere between 7 ft. and 6-10. Saying he is "barely 6'9"" is completely wrong.

No, that is not what it means. If he were over 6'10 he would say he say he was closer to 6'11". A guy is not going to round his height down.

I heard an interview with Clyde Drexler when he was recruiting for the University of Houston talking about a recruits height. He was laughing about the old days when the PR department embelished the heights. He was listed as 6'8" when he was really 6'6" and Hakeem was listed at 7' when he was really 6'9".

  14. Dirk is not a championship calibur player and not even close.

I have no doubts about Acie. He won't bust.

Dirk has been a top 10 type of player in the NBA for the last 8 or 9 years. He has led his team to the playoffs every year and to the finals once. Granted the Mavs didn't win it all but its hard to question Dirks career. I wish he had been a Hawk.

  15. Post after post is made to try to switch Smoove to the 3 and Horf to the 4. Am I the only one here who thinks Horf is a 5 and Smoove is a 4? Horf is 6'10" and 250 and played the center spot very well for us all last year as a rookie. Smoove is 6'9" nearing 240 and had a career year at the 4. I think it would be very silly to yank these young guys around for anything other than substitutional situations. To me both guys lose their advantages with any switch. Smoove and Horf both have quickness and athletic edges on most of their opponents. Move them down and they lose that. Both guys might be a touch on the small side for their positions but its not like they are 6'5". They are both as big as many guys that have played their respective positions very well. Bill Russell, Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Alonzo Morning are all 6'10" or less centers and were all dominant in their careers. Carl Malone, Dennis Rodman, Charles Barkley, and even present day guys like Elton Brand are all dominant power forwards that are 6'9" or less. I think we need to leave Horf and Smoove where they are and let them continue to develope.

  16. Seriously - it's Marvin!

Stay with me before criticizing. Marvin is now 6'9"-245. He is strong and can move (a bit)...and like Laimbeer...he can hit a mid-range jumper. AL is a great looking PF and JS is a great SF (if he doen't shoot too many threes)...so we just use em all. Phuck Zaza. Granted Marvin might be at a dis-advantage physically against some guys - but he has AH and Smoove to cover for the occasional mistake. Other teams have 6'9" centers - and 245 isn't a bad weight - plus he would be able to plant those huge feet of his. He's totally coachable so he would do it.

    PG - Bibby/Acie

    SG - JJ/Evans

    SF - Smoove/J. Rich

    PF - Al Horford/Zaza

    C - Marvin/Zaza

Their are only a few guys who Marvin would be worried about - generally he could hold his own against guys like Okur/Curry/etc.....Howard would be a problem but wtf - JS goes "off" against Howard anyways.

    I assume you are kidding?

  17. Jake Voskuhl is still out there...and would be better than Lorenzen Wright.

    I'm just saying...

I would rather take a chance on Maglorie than Lo or any other old center. At least Maglorie has had some success in the past.. I still think a shooting big guy like Fazekus would be a good fit also to spread the floor with Smoove and Horf.

  18. I think Solo has some talent and you don't just throw big guys away. Especially ones like him that are so cheap. He is not a game changer but he does not need to be. He can play spot minutes when needed and not hurt us when big guys are in foul trouble. As for Salim I am glad he is gone too. After Lue I always hated when Salim the chucker came into the game. He is a frustrating player to watch.

I don't know about Solo. After 2 full seasons he still seems like a project. With Morris already signed I think we have our big man project for the next couple of years. I want a big guy that can step out and hit an 18 footer or a bruiser.

  19. Of corse things were OK. I mean its not like one of our best young players bolted for Greece this summer and we got JACKSHYYT for him. lol I mean that kind of thing happens all the time to good organizations right.

Kudos to Sund and the ASG on Smoove. They gambled on won. ON Chillz they gambled and lost. All and all I think Mo Evans gives they Hawks more than Chillz did. He plays the position the way it is supposed to be played where Chillz was basically an interior guard.
