  1. In the past 6 or 7 seasons it was easy to look at our roster and see we had no shot at the playoffs. This year it is different. We are looking up at teams that are clearly not as talented as we are. The Sixers, Nets, and Wizzards all have major flaws yet we are looking up at them. I know we just acquired Bibby so it may take time to mesh but it seems absurd not to make a coaching change to see if that will give us the boost we need to go on a run. It almost seems like the ASG really has no interest in making the playoffs. Why not try out Larry drew for 30 games, there is no way he could be worse. If any of the Larry Brown stuff is true why not make the change now and allow LB to come and be a hero with a playoff surge.

All of this leads me to believe that the ASG plans major changes at the end of the year and missing the playoffs makes it easier to explain. Maybe they do plan on Larry Brown for next season and don't want any bad publicity that a Larry Drew short window of success would bring to make the change easier. I hope this is their reason because any thing else seems like pure disinterest.

Subject: Re: Who is a good comparison to Marvin?

My hestation(like it matters) with taking Marvin so high is that I simply don't know what we are getting..What I mean, we know that if we take Bogut we get at least an average to good center..I feel pretty certain that if we take Paul or Deron Williams we will at least have an above average point guard for many seasons to come..With Marvin, not only do I not know what to expect, I don't even know what postion he will play..Maybe that would not make me so uneasy except we already have 3 other young, nondefined type players that overlap with Marvin..

BK says Chillz is a 2 guard..Maybe he is..I don't know how he will develope..I know he has a terrible looking, inconsistant shot..He is a very good rebounder and a good slasher..He guards the 3 well, but seems to have alot of trouble with smaller and quicker 2's..BK has steadfastly maintained that Smoove is a 3..Alot of us think he could be a more effective 4..His interior defensive potential, his strong rebounding, and his lack of handles to go along with his yet to be known jumpshot tell me he could be a nice 4..The Hawks don't seem to agree. Al is all over the place..He is strong enough to match a few 5's, easily strong enough to play the 4, but is soft defensively and is not a strong rebounder considering his size..He actually plays smaller than his size. Now it seems we are likely to add Marvin to that mix..He is almost identical in size to Smoove, not as athletic, but has a better shot and better handles..He does have Garnett-like skills, except he is at least 4 inches shorter..Some say he is like a healthy Mashburn, some say James Worthy with a jumpshot..I can see some of those guys, along with some Tim Thomas, some Billy Owens, some Lamar Odom, even a little Danny Manning..He is one of the MANY, multitalented, nonshelfish, long atheletic 3/4/don't knows that have come out in recent years..NONE of these type players has led their teams to a championship..These type of players are so pretty to watch but seemingly always leave you looking and waiting for their potential to be filled..Meanwhile, tough hardnosed pointguards and bigmen are actually winning the titles..

    Therefore my wish list is....

Bogut..If the Bucks somehow pass him up..

Paul..If you have ever watched him play you can see the potential greatness..

Deron Williams..Bigger and stronger than Paul, but he is just lacking that intangible that you know Paul has..And remember at Illinois, Deron basically played with 2 other NBA quality point guards to share the offensive duties..Paul was a one man gang guardwise at Wake Forest.

Ok, I am ready to get lit-up by the we love potential, we need a superstar gang that loves the idea of having a highlight reel player more than they want to be a strong title contending team in a few years..I will only point out this years playoffs, all the real contenders had strong pointguards and tough interior oriented bigmen..Then look at all the superstars of the softer, but pretty to watch variety that are sitting home watching Duncan and the Wallaces fight it out for the title.....

Yeah, I was either a Bogut or Paul guy. I think the smart money is always on the bigs and the points. Wings are usually a dime a dozen.

  3. That Marvin is nothing more than a slightly above average player. He is mediocre in every part of his game maybe with the exception of his mid-range jumper. He is totally non-aggressive in the way he plays the game. That being said we shouldn't trade him for junk, but its becoming obvious we should also never expect him to be a 1st tier type of player.

  4. We should have room for 2 bigs since we sent out Lo and Sheldon. I agree that one should be a banger/defensive type but Fazikus would be a nice change of pace big for the other spot. None of our current bigs have any real range and a player like Nick might help occasionally stretch the floor to give our wings room to operate.

  5. I am as much of a BK critic as anyone on the board and I can't find any negative in this deal. We get a proven playoff experienced vet with only one year remaining on his deal that should help us tremendously in the playoff drive. We gave up nothing of any value in the process.

  6. There used to be one argument after another here on the Billy Knight and Woody issue..People flocked to defend BK's unexplainable draft choices and Woody's Larry Brown-like coaching ability..They defended BK's vision after he drafted Marvin over 2 all-star point guards. Some tried to compare Marvin to James Worthy..They said Marvin was the best player available and you couldn't pass on talent to draft for need. They said we needed Marvin even though we used our 3 previous 1st round choices on small forwards. Now 3 years in we all see who Marvin is. He is a slightly above average sf. No better no worse. People defended BK's Sheldon Williams choice because Roy would have been a duplication of JJ.. I guess the talent over need question was for some reason thrown out the door in that draft..People defended the JJ debacle, which in turn led to the ownership fight, because JJ was going to come here and play the point for us and be our superstar. Three years later we now see JJ is neither a point guard or a superstar. He is a nice scoring 2 guard and best suited as a 2nd or 3rd option on a good team. They defended BK for signing Speedy to a large contract for which the Hawks have nothing to show. Bk is a little like George Bush, turns out they have both been wrong on pretty much everything. How much longer can such a buffoon be allowed to run an NBA team?

  7. Why not simply fire Woody and insert Dominique as head coach for the remainder of the season. It wouldn't cost them any money and it would energize the city and give Dominique a half season audition as head coach. The players might rally around a legend like Nique and actually give it their all. I can't see any downside for any party involved in this scenario.

  8. I agree it time to turn Acie loose and let him learn on the job. He has already improved with Woody constantly yanking him out in favor of Lue. I would like to see a 3 guard rotation of Acie, JJ, and Chillz get the majority of the minutes at the 1 and 2 spots.
