  1. This is a good case of the media trying to scare everyone into thinking that the swine flu is a serious disease. It's no different than the regular flu. It is just a different strain. In fact, many of the strains of regular flue are resistant to the medicatin tamiflu. The swine flu isn't. It is easily treated.

    this.

I may get a regular flu shot this year, maybe. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I will not get any special swine flu vaccination. Nothing gets people in line like a good epidemic.

  2. More than likely your issue is that your system (video included) simply doesn't have the power to decode the video's smoothly.

As for the latest drivers, go to http://support.dell.com, put in yoru service tag (usually a sticker on the bottom) or just dig through the list of models till you find yours and it will take you to all the latest drivers for that model system. It's worth a try I suppose.

  3. I am hearing from some people to avoid Dells because they use proprietary chinese parts as opposed to something like HP that lets you do more to customize. Is the Dell brand a good one, fine, one to avoid....? Thanks.

They all use the same parts. Dell's are as well built and as reliable, sometimes more reliable, than anything you can buy. Even the Home/student line (Dimension desktops and Inspiron laptops) still use name brand parts. The same ones you would be buying if you went to Best Buy or any similar place. I've worked on thousands of Dell systems over the years, both servers and workstations, and I've never seen a part in one that didn't have a name on it that I didn't recognize.

  4. Have you by chance seen 'The Descent' ?

It's not a remake or anything, but It's the best horror movie I've seen in YEARS.

(You know when rottentomatoes.com gives a horror movie an 85, they are onto something...)

Fantastic movie! Probably one of the best "horror" movies I've seen in a long time. Though I saw the euro ending, which is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the US release's ending, IMO.

  5. Dell monitors are perfectly fine. There are actually only a couple of producers of LCD panels in the world and everything is built off of those. Samsung makes very good panels, generally considered the best, but if you aren't using it for anything special, you won't notice.

Just make sure that whatever you get has a low -5ms refresh rate. Otherwise you could see some blurring in very fast motion video and the like.

  6. Computers are computers, as long as it has the specs you're looking for (storage, cpu, video card, etc) they're all pretty much the same. Just get what you can find a good deal on. I suggest checking the weekly ads.

Only key difference in 32 adn 64 bit Windows is how much ram one can use. 32bit can only use 3.5 gb of ram, 64bit can use much much more than that. 64bit is compatible with "most" 32-bit software, so there should be few compatibility issues.

Windows 7 is nice. I've been using it for many months now and will reinstall with the final version in about a week or so. It is essential Vista with lots of user interface tweaks, performance enhancements and usability adjustments. The myth that Vista was some unreliable operating system is just that, a myth.

Windows has a built in movie editing software, it's very basic but it works. You can also get Windows live essentials which has an improved picture and video editing package with it.

  7. i"m looking forward to this. JEH is a fantastic actor and Englund had taken the role as far as it was going to go with him. He had become a caricature of the character he played in the first movie. This movie is going to be a lot less campy than those movies had become and actually focus on telling the story rather than inventing scenes to Freddy can have his one-liners. Actually having an interesting story is what makes this potentially the best remake of the bunch.

  8. If you except what's wrong and build with it, then you will always have problems... this is foundational.

First and foremost, we need a distributing guard to make this team better. When we get a SG like Crawford, it send a signal that we should play the iso joe, iso flip, iso crawford, iso smoove game any more. The longer we do that, the more we stunt the development of Smoove and Horf and other young players who have yet to define their offense.

This is a chance for us to get right.

Boy I would love for Sund to make a move to bring in Jason Kidd or Hinrich so that we would be forced to become more classical on offense.

At best Crawford is an OG. Not a PG. Just because he can handle the ball doesn't make him a PG. Same goes for Joe. IF this is Woody's way, then Woody needs to go.

I think the problem is the coach. They're playing his system and while we don't know exactly how Crawford will be used, it appears Sund is collecting players that fit what we've done in the past. Of course, all of this goes out the Window if we deal for a real PG and suddenly this move becomes a great one, but until then, I think we're dealing with more of the same IMO.

  9. It could be, but it doesn't matter, it doesn't change anything. We will still be a team that looks for 1-on-1 matchups and can't run plays. Joe is a decent distributor, but he's a shadow of a bad point guard and is NOT the guy you want having the ball in his hands the entire game becuase he doesn't LEAD on the court. The leader needs the ball in their hands and Joe is the leader in salary only. That is the one thing that Bibby brought. He is a leader on the court, he will yell at guys and tell them where to be and shout out what he see's from the other team.

  10. It's only a good deal because they gave away garbage in exchange for a guy who can, at the very least, still rebound and score some. Other than that, this is another Cavs grasping at straws to appease "The King" in order to keep him in town. At least Shaq does have a role to play here, because they play half court ball and he's not expected to run, but he doesn't change the fact that they have immobile big men and Dwight howard will still feast on them.

  11. On this team, he IS a point guard. We don't run plays and we only move the enough to get a favorable isolation or matchup. He'll be 10x more effective in that scenario than Bibby because he will score regularly, where Bibby had off weeks. Everyone needs to accept that he will most likely be playing the 1 for this team next year. Will be better? sure, again because he's better than Bibby, but will we be better-enough? eh.. we'll see.

  12. Josh Smith is the only tradable player of value that we have. It sucks for him (and you fans that see this is a slap in the face), but that's how it is. He offers the best ROI at this point.

The calls for trading Horford are simply absurd. A this point in his career, he is not tradable.

  13. I heard the rumor on the radio this morning that Mike Brown might be out in Cleveland. I waved my hand in disbelief however, maybe Lebron asked for the change. However, how do you win coach of the year in the same year you're fired?

In Cleveland, it would happen. They are so desperate to keep Lebron in town that they would fire a coach a year in order to keep him around. Brown is a solid coach. It sucks because Orlando was just a horrible match for them. Anyone else in the east and they go to the finals and give the Lakers a MUCH harder time than Orlanda was capable of, if not win it outright.

  14. So i finally watched the latest Rambo movie and this dude just killed a battalion's worth of soldiers in the final 3 minutes with one .50 cal machine gun. He was shot in the arm THEN reloaded with the arm he was shot in..LOL. imma drink something then watch it again..LOL.

I loved it, probably 2nd best movie of the series, though it doesn't hold the place in my hard that the original Rambo did.

    I enjoyed this:

Five real life soldiers who make Rambo look like a p*ssy

  15. Dude - where you been?

Sup, i've been around, busy with work and all that. Just had a baby so that takes up some time and work has been pretty busy of late. Odd since this economy is supposedly so horrible. I guess it depends on what you read or watch. Hopefully you'll see more of me in the near future though, thanks for asking!

  16. I need to know what career is good when it comes to computer. My folks always tell me "your good in computers, you might as well get a career in computers" I don't want to get a secretary job in terms of me typing all day. i want to know if i should do the following fields and i need to know exactly what these fields are...

    - Internet specialist

    - Computer Engineer

    - Web designer

    - Graphic designer

I live in jonesboro Ga. i need to know if there is any schools(weather small or big) that only for computers.

I'm not sure what an internet specialist really is to be honest, and I've been an systems admin and consultant for upwards of 15 years now.

Computer Engineer is also a very broad term.

If you're looking to get into the computer field these days, it pretty much breaks down into two catagories: Development or networking

Development covers everything from web design/development, programming database design and development, etc.

Networking covers the actual networking of systems as well as maintaining, repairing and sometimes building systems (desktop support). That's usually where you will start out if you're new to the field.

You need to ask yourself what you think you'll enjoy most. do you build your own computers? Do you enjoy that? have you ever sat down and tried to read a book on web development and then create a web page? They are very different in what they demand of you. In both cases you're a few years away from making real money, though it's easier to get an entry level job in networking/desktop support.

In either case you can find classes at Devry or any of the modern technical colleges (chatahoochee tech, etc).

ask if you have any other questions.

  17. I thought it was great. Almost exactly what I was looking for and expecting. Would have prefered the original ending or something similar, but it's a minor complaint. I await the directors cut that should be about 30 mins longer and add in some good scenes.

  18. oh, another thing I didn't think of. This laptop could be one based on an Nvidia chipset and use an Nvidia based NIC, in which case it will have a firewall built into it and that firewall is a PITA. You might want to investigate that and if so all firewall functionality can be disabled via the software app that comes with it.

  19. So I got a new laptop and it came with Vista on it and I have to admit that for the most part it's been pretty nice but I'm having an issue with my wired internet speed and with local file transfers between 2 computers running Vista (I also installed Vista on my desktop just for consistency).

My internet plan is 18MB down and 1.5 up and using wired and wireless connections on my laptop and running a speed test on speedtest.net these are my results:

    Wireless

    397261032.png

    Wired

    397269580.png

I am running TVersity on my desktop and use it to share files with my xbox360 to watch movies on the tv and it's a wired connection only and it's so slow that the movies often hang for 5-15 seconds before resuming.

I've tried disabling IPV6, disabling autotuning, using vista basic for the theme, I've updated the drivers for my NIC, I've rolled back the drivers for my NIC, disabled windows firewall, uninstalled windows live onecare, and probably several other things that I can't remember off the top of my head and none of them have made a difference. I get almost exactly the same wired speed on my desktop as I've posted above with my laptop.

Can anyone here provide some insight into this? I'm about 24 hours away from wiping both of these machines and going back to XP SP3 which worked quite well on my previous laptop and on the same desktop that is now running Vista.

I've never heard of any issues with internet speeds being slow on vista, but the issues between other systems can be caused by differential file compression. To disable this go to control panel, programs and features, turn windows features on or off, and find remote differential compression. You may also see a few other things in there you would like to turn off as well. I tend to always disable indexing, as I know where my files are and don't need Windows (or googles stupid toolbar) constantly chewing on my system in an effort to know where everything is.

  20. If you have friends over, or like the genre, Rock Band 2 is one of the most fun gaming investments you could ever make. Castle Crashers off Xbox Live is awesome. Braid was kinda fun. Both the geometry wars games are amazing. GTA4 is a must have. Dead Space is good, Fallout 3 is awesome. Any of the Call of Duty games are great, I just don't play them on consoles. Just get a gamefly account and start hitting their most popular list.

Ignore the jilted haters. You likely will have no problems with the system. The new ones are have only a fraction of the failures of older systems. If you want to play games, it's the best gaming system on the market, period. It's also one hell of a media streamer and media center extender. If it does fail, you just send it in and get it repaired. It's hardly the end of the world.

  21. Rocky - the original and the best

Rocky Balboa - unbelievable that a 50 year old man could fight a younger opponent and compete? You must not watch MMA..

Rock 3 - MR. T made the movie

Rocky 2 - nothing great but he gets his belt, rah rah

Rocky 4 - at the time there wasn't much better than seeing Rocky beat the reds.

    after that who cares.

  22. I'm trying to decide what gaming system to buy.

    I know the PS3 has the Blu-Ray player, but I can buy a basic X-Box 360 for just $200.

I here X-Box Live is cool, but you have to pay for it. Where as Playstation online is free.

    What are your opinions?

I would get the xbox, simply because it's cheaper, it has more games (as well as more A+ games) and Microsoft is doing more to move the platform forward than Sony is for the ps3.

If you weren't already shopipng for a blu-ray player, blu-ray should have zero impact on your decision. If you were already shopping for a blu-ray player or were really interested in it, then the PS3 might be for you. Otherwise you're buying a game console and games should be your primary reason for purchasing and on that front, the 360 wins hands down.

yes, xbox live (Gold, silver is FREE) costs $50 per year. That's not that much and in comparison the quality of experience is much better than PSN. Microsoft adds features to xbox live on a regular basis and not just frilly features. They're completely revamping the interface next month and that will bring with it a wide variety of feature enhancements (google Xbox NXE). PSN is still working to get basic features that Xbox Live had the day it came out. So yes , you do pay for it, but it's not like you're throwing money at nothing.

From a reliabilty standpoint, the new 360's are fine. The older ones had problems, but they were not nearly as widespread as some people would have you believe. I also know a couple of PS3 owners who have had hardware failures from it, so it's not bullet proof either.

  23. This debate can go on and on and on and on...like Ford/Chevy or John Deere/whatever...its eternal.

Thanks chillz. That particular "feature" makes me go crazy sometimes.

no problem, I actually looked around on google and found that for the model you have, this is a common issue that can be fixed by a bios update from Dell. Others have worked around it by changing power settings for the wireless netowrk adapter.
