I'll push back even harder and make your eyes bleed if people want to continue this anti-OO narrative.

It's not really an anti-OO narrative. It's an anti-OO as a starter realization that should have been made a while ago. Okongwu is a good player that I think we should keep and continue to develop if possible. He's a great 6th man, first big off the bench piece. Ideally, he can play 4/5, especially with a floor spacing center. However, he's not untouchable and trades should be considered if it makes the team better, But if you want to play this woe is me, protect my baby boy OO, they're spreading a false narrative game, you can bleed away.

Whatever you want to think.  It isn't factual, but if you want to think it, go ahead.  Al was a better player in his prime, and there is no reason for OO to keep from getting to that level or close to it.  OO can be another Bam Adebayo.  But let's continue to label him like Al was labeled.

Bam is much stronger than OO. At the same age, he was ahead of where OO is now.

I don't need to find out.  I know.  I fought this myth back when Al Horford was constantly being criticized for being too small.  It's a f***ing myth.  Okongwu is almost exactly the same size as Bam Adebayo, who from my standpoint is the model for what a center should be in today's NBA.

Al was a better center and player than OO is and ever will be.

There it is.  The perpetuated myth that you have to be 7-foot to be a center.

OO gets bullied like crazy when he plays the 5. He's a 4/5 tweener, and that's OK. Clint still defends Centers better. OO's best defense comes when he's guarding 4s. We won't win a championship with him as a Starter.

I don't want some big, clunky 7 footer either, but give me a Kel-el Ware type player. We should have traded Clint and 15 for 10 and drafted Derek Lively last year.

OO has been adding range to his offensive game every year, he's switchable on defense, he has excellent defensive instincts, and he seems to want to be here -- why the hell would you guys want to trade him?  Everyone here constantly clamors for a stretch 5 and as soon as we have one that almost developed, we want to trade him?  Not to mention he's elite finishing around the rim, which should not be underrated for a center starting with Trae.

All of the above does not even speak to the fact we have him on a ~$15M/year contract.  He will very likely be one of the best value centers in the league in the next 3 years.  Who would you guys rather have at center for $15M or less?  Holmes? Zubac? Wagner? Adams?  There is no one.  Also, OO didn't get to play in the physical defense second half of the season where he would have been thriving.  Selling on him now would be a huge blunder.

He's one of the few assets we have that can provide quality return and he's not big enough to be a starting center.

Effort and motor are both false, as I showed in the other thread about non slow bigs.  He has already improved those.  He's also up to 240 lbs now, so bulk isn't a big issue.

But you know what he has that you can't coach?  Athleticism, speed, elite jumping ability, the ability to defend more than one position, versatility, a perimeter shot...etc.

The kind of skillset that could allow for a lot of front court options. We could even play big with OO at PF at times.

And honestly we can't keep thinking that guys like Garrison, Vit, AJ, Forrest are good enough to be key players.  No offense to any of them they just aren't there right now.  That may change but the really good teams don't rely on them for big rotation minutes.

Vit had just as much impact as Bey had imo

  8. Injured.

On top of everything, this team couldn't stay healthy. Our front court depth was trash before the season started with only Hunter, Bey, and Jalen capable of playing big minutes at 2 positions. I think we were almost always done one and often times down two. Then Capela and Okongwu rotated injury all season. Add in Trae's pinky and we didn't really have a shot. Roster reconstruction will be a major need this off season.

Shout out to Bogi for making it through an entire season healthy tough!

Mavericks Were Determined To Trade Grant Williams, 'Rubbed A Lot Of People The Wrong Way'.......didn't he also wear out his welcome in Boston?

I don't know if it was real, but there was a line about him switching from Luka's Signature shoe to Tatum's that was hilarious.

If you not playing AJ or Kobe move them..Quinn don't wanna play young guys but that's the way they learn..look at JJ...Nate refused to play

My hope is KB will play after today and Mills/Mathews run was all for trade value.

Not mad at our FO for not making a move.  Every rumor sucks.  DLo, Grimes, or "nothing" for DJM.  We haven't even got an enticing rumor.

I'm mad at them for not trading for Fontecchio.

Yup thats why they are far a part. Hawks are more than willing to do Dejounte for Dyson and Picks. Griffin is asking for a center upgrade in process

Jesus Christ that would be dumb

David Griffin wants Onyeka in the deal and hawks to this point have refused to put him in unless Pels up their side of the deal. This deal would easily happen if they take away their ask of Onyeak. One hour left and lets see what happens.

Hoping to hear whatever deal this is whether it happens or not.

Let's be honest.  AJ isn't going to blow up.   The fear of him blowing up shouldn't be a reason not to trade him.  Could he be a good player and great shooter in the league.  Definitely.  But he most likely isn't going to be a star.   How many good shooting 6'6" wings are in this league?  A lot.  They have to do something else to get to a star level player.

Nothing against AJ.  I'd love to have him back out there.  But we shouldn't hold on to him for no reason.

We were all arguing pre-season about who is the best star potential player between AJ and JJ and how the other should be moved to acquire talent. That question has been answered with authority. AJ can get packaged any which way if he brings back something of value.

can confirm obvious: DJ held out for possible trade reasons.

Pels talk is getting more serious. This might have to wait until the offseason to make a trade happen.

Well Herb is playing for NO, too soon to tell if Murphy is going to, and those are the guys I would want.

Edit: Anyone worth having is still playing.

  16. Honestly, I think the Austin Reaves talk is more about adjusting outsiders (not OUR outsiders!) to what we want in return for DJ. For some reason, Reaves is seen as this up and coming, starting caliber player, better than others in rumors at least, so I think it's more about making a statement that we aren't just taking crap more than anything else. Reaves is closer to a Bogi replacement than a DJ replacement.

    9. Atlanta Hawks: Kyle Filipowski

    9 OF 58

    Kyle Filipowski, Duke
    Kyle Filipowski, DukeLance King/Getty Images

Previous mock draft spot: No. 9

    School: Duke

    Nationality: American

    Position: PF/C

    Size: 7'0", 248 lbs

    Age: 20

There are too many high-floor and NBA-starter indicators for Kyle Filipowski's weaknesses to keep teams passing. At 7'0", he's now at 39.7 percent from three, averaging 9.0 boards and 3.1 assists. Even a worst-case scenario—which envisions a frontcourt shooting threat, excellent passer and presence on the boards—could justify lottery interest. The flashes of open-floor ball-handling, shot-blocking and foot speed could be bonus value that would surely result in Filipowski turning into one of the class' most useful players.

    21. Atlanta Hawks (via Kings): Ryan Dunn

    21 OF 58

    Ryan Dunn, Virginia

Previous mock draft spot: No. 25

    School: Virginia

    Nationality: American

    Position: SF/PF

    Size: 6'8", 216 lbs

    Age: 20

    Pro comparison: Herb Jones

The scouting report on Ryan Dunn seems cut-and-dried, with his defense and explosion for finishing translatable strengths, and his lack of creation and shooting limiting weaknesses that project a low offensive ceiling. He's going to need the right fit that values his athleticism and defense and can surround him with enough ball-handling and shotmaking.

    thoughts. Yay or Nay?

I'd be happy. Get me a stretch 7 Footer and a Wing.
