It will be soon.  The only reason guys like him still have a job is because there aren’t enough athletic skilled bigs to completely phase them out.  However, the number of athletic skilled bigs will increase in the near future.

I agree from a starting center standpoint that the league is leaving them in the dust, but I do like them situationally off the bench. It would be nice to have someone that could play 15 minutes vs an Embiid and just help wear him down.

Again, no where near rotation, just a third center.

Sarr's pie in the sky developmental time frame expectation should be something like JJs turned out to be. Not sure this is what the team needs atm, but not sure who else is a better pick either.

That's pretty much the point. If we're keeping the pick, just draft the highest potential player and trust your developmental team.

I think assuming JJ, Sarr, and OO will meet the shooting requirements of a modern NBA front court is a concept built on hope.  None of them have demonstrated they are reliable volume shooters.  They can make open set shots.

Could one of them develop to be a shooter? Yes, but none are even on that trajectory path.

Well, there's no lock in this draft, so taking the player with the highest ceiling, especially with out GL and ATL coaching staffs, makes sense.

Edit: I meant to quote Atlantaholic above your post.

DJ is a much better player than that.  It's just the fit with Trae that's not working so we undervalue him.  When he plays point guard, he's at minimum top 12 in the NBA.

Well, the deadline rumors were people like Quentin Grimes and a Pick, so it doesn't say much about his market value. Teams won't pay us full price, ever.

I have a possible scenario as this... Bucks basically become what we would've been with Sarr/Johnson but they get Bogi too. The Pelicans get what they want for what we need.

This is the win-now move for the Hawks. Recouping draft capital is reliant on Bufkin growth, Capela getting you some protected FRP on an expiring.. but other than that you're in trouble draft wise.

The floor spacing would be atrocious

Again, so don't get your own picks back.

This is coming over from the other thread. Im going to compare 4 and 8 in this draft to Hunter and Reddish.

You think trading Trae for Hunter, Reddish, and 3 other 15-25 picks is a good trade?

IF he wants out, I want 4, 8, '25, end '26 pick swap, and Vassell from SAS to pair with what we have.

We maintain a competitive roster, bring in youth this season, and then continue pushing for the play-offs next season.

Sort of, except this whole discussion started because we're getting our picks back....but hoping those picks fall out of the lottery.

This is a IF Trae asks out scenario question of trading him for our picks back, but staying competitive, instead of moving DJ and entering full flop mode too.

The argument is continuing to push for the play-offs with DJ/JJ/Bogi/Sarr/Hunter/OO/4/8 etc

The teams they got the picks from did....Thats how they got top picks. Who tanked isnt really relevant. The fact they were high is whats relevant.

But its also ironic since we want to trade for the Spurs 4 and 8. Y'all think its *better* if those picks were 13th and 54th?

This would be us tanking for the Spurs

  9. Hawks tanked for roughly 3 seasons. Drafted their best player in season one (Luka) and traded him for Trae (Lucky is semi-worked) and a Pick, then drafted Hunter and Cam in the lottery the following season, and the Onyeka the next. We lucked into a quicker than normal turnaround. Intentionally tanking, doesn't turn your team around. Look at how long teams sit in a dumpster fire, looking at you Detroit, Washington, Charlotte, Orlando for years, Sacramento for 20 years, Minny for years. It took Philly forever to get it right, and OKC is an exception to the rule. The best player we've drafted since Trae is Jalen at 20.

I was asked to not repeat it. I don't know if @NBASupes wants to share the name or hold onto it because his sources asked for the same privacy.

Oh no, I don't want you or your source to get in trouble. I'm purely speculating.

It's a painful price. I have sticker shock at the moment, but, ultimately, I want to win a championship.
