Is clear we need to improve our defense, size, strength and shooting.
Siakam is a good defender but is a poor fit with OO and Murray, really poor fit, we need a shooting big badly. Siakam would destroy our offense and I am not sold on the defense improvement he is going to give, our frontcourt would be undersized and we would have problems with big centers. He is already 29 and we would need to pay him till 35…. Is not a lock he is resigning, I see very little positives.
KAT is younger, fits better with our starting lineup. I think the fit with OO is great and is a real difference maker on offense. I can see KAT, Young, and Bey playing outside while DJM shots from outside and midrange and OO operates on pick and roll. Is a very balanced team. KAT could defend the C where is more confident and OO might defend the PF. This is a real good fit.
I don’t want to give any assets for Siakam, I would prefer to go as we are or trade Capela for a shooting Center as Miles Turner or other
Spacing would be a problem but our offense was pretty good last year with a non-shooter in JC at the 4. I’m not advocating for siakam over KAT. Just pointing out a fact.

Translation: prepare for a trade
While we can debate whether this is the best course of action ad nauseam, it's clear this team is in WIN-NOW mode. They moved a ton of future assets for Murray and Bey. You don't do that with the goal of rebuilding. They want to keep Trae happy and he wants to win so therefore you try to do just that.
I love the young guys' potential, but you develop guys to fill spots OR bring in proven guys that help you win. Look at the Braves. It was brutal watching Freddie leave for the Dodgers and Dansby for the Cubs, but they replaced them with guys that weren't in their farm system, but brought in their replacements by trading guys who were. Anthoupolous has done more to instill confidence as a competent and even brilliant GM moreso than Landry at this point, but the concept is still the same. Hate to see them go, but hope who they bring back is a critical piece for us.

I'm neither team KAT nor Siakam, until the JB situation plays out. That's the top prize.
What if all this Siakam to ATL was a massive smoke screen. What if the deal all along with indeed a 3 team trade with Toronto and Atlanta and Boston as the 3rd team? Siakam and Capela being the main parts going to Boston with Brown coming to Atlanta and Hunter and others going to Toronto.

Why in the world would Orlando be interested in Siakam? They just waived Bol Bol to help clear up their abundance at the 4/5? Posturing? I'm sure they'd have to send back Carter and more so that could help, but are they going to play Banchero and Siakam as interchangeable PF and C?
In other news, good to have my old username profile back. Thanks to those behind the scenes who got me back online. Although this username doesn't make sense for this season in life, it only feels right after years on this site using it. lol.

I saw it live and watched the replays of it. Is it possible he was just trying to say "we're cool man" or is it straight trolling? Either way, I love Trae's clutch performances. Kid really had a poor game last night, but had ice water in his veins late in the game. We haven't really had a player like that since "Teague Time". All in all, I think this team will be maddening at times and extremely fun to watch at times. Looking forward to the high points of this roller coaster season. I think both Luka and Trae will have good, maybe even great NBA careers though. They look so much more poised than your average NBA rookies.

Wonder why Houston wants him?
Because they'll be paying him the MLE or less.

I know Carmelo is in the sunset of his career. I was just making the point that he has been that "superstar" player in the past that has avoided us.
Truth be told, he still doesn't want to play for the Hawks. I'm about 99.9% sure he wouldn't waive his NTC if we hadn't guaranteed him a buyout once the deal went through.

Depressing!
Melo is a star in name only at this point. He's a no defense chucker who is not a winning player. The last thing we need on this team of impressionable young guys is a malcontent. That's why Dennis was sent out. I think the deal was a great trade really for all teams, but I'm good with our side for sure. Long-term, it's a better situation. Sheed was at least a true 2-way player and did the things needed to help his team win.

I'd be good with that outcome. I actually have Cam Reddish and Bol Bol on my 2k team now after that draft.

I think we need another stretch big and one that is more of a 4 than a 5. Someone else said another Ilyasova type and I totally agree.

I'm down with the deal so we could get off Dennis' contract, but that's one less player we have that can play the 4 now in Moose. Melo can play small-ball 4, but he's certainly getting bought out.

That bottom of the pack may be so tight, we could contend for a playoff spot and still nab a top 5 pick. Sad.

35 wins in this east might contend for a playoff spot.
1. Boston
2. Philly
3. Milwaukee
4. Toronto
5. Indy
6. Heat
7. Wizards

My realistic get is Marcus Smart. I don't like his offensive game, but I think he's a good fit next to Trae defensively. I think Boston thinks hard about matching a strong offer since they've got to consider the contracts they'll have to dole out over the next few years. The question is how much makes Boston blink without overpaying for him?
For the right amount of money, I wouldn't mind Nerlens Noel either.

Did anyone catch the Hawks video clip from practice today posted on Instagram? It was a coach Pierce mic'd up. The video was cool and all, but it shows Pierce pushing the guys and laughing with them. It seems he's really connecting well with our guys quickly. I know the report was he's widely respected around the league coming to the Hawks, but it's starting to show in the short time he's been here. I remember reports about Bud that were similar early on (attending the Drake concert and stuff like that) so I'm sure that's just part of the gig, but it still makes me feel good about who is coaching the team these next few years.
One other thing of note from that video was it looks like Trae and JC are developing a good connection. At the very end of the video Pierce calls the team to a huddle after practice and it looked like JC bull rushes Trae and hugs him. Good stuff.

I love the way he did those running jump shots where it was almost like a little kid doing a half-court heave, but it wasn't because he didn't have range. That kid got hella range! It was definitely a shot he practiced since he did it half a dozen times in that video.

Kid is crafty and I love his fire. I love rooting for the underdog so I'll be pulling for him. Might explain why I've been a Hawks fan for 20 years. lol.

Which is not the way you want to sell him in a trade. At all.
Teague kept Dennis out of a starting job for years. I hope to god we neither plan to do that with our top pick nor plan to play Young off the ball longterm.
Learning to play off the ball is super low on my list of priorities for Young’s development but I agree that will be the best case result of them playing in the floor together.
Cant wait to see whether we throw our rookie or the suspect defender we are trying to make look good for trades up against an opposing 6’8” shooting guard.
I agree, but he most likely is going to be that anyway unless he goes to PHX, ORL, or possibly NY. Not a lot of teams needing PG's right now.
I think he's going to be dealt in a YUK deal like Dennis for Biyombo and a 2nd or something like that. Shorter deal and slightly less $.

I like having size at the SG position. 6'7" and he'll beef up from that 190 lbs he's at now. I can't stand small-ball backcourts. He can shoot, pass, and seems to have good awareness, court vision, and BBIQ. Seems Bud Ball is still very much alive even though he isn't around anymore.
The entire NBA has basically gone to some variation of pace and space. Bud doesn't have a patent on that, but I agree, he would be the type of player to work well in Bud's system.

For the record, I think Siakam is the better overall player for this team mainly because of Trae's defensive shortcomings and worry about him and KAT in a playoff series, but Siakam isn't without his own shortcomings as it would relate to this team in the playoffs. I lineup of OO and Siakam as the primary 4/5 could have it's challenges rebounding and playing defense against Embiid, Giannis, Lopez, Adebayo and some of the other bigs in the East. I think they match up better than KAT and OO, but something to consider. True contenders build their teams with playoff opponents in mind. Who is our _______ stopper? I think what we do at SF if we move for either of these guys is probably as important as getting either of them.
