Marvin and Batum are about the same quality, in terms of what they have produced.

Swift: 3 pt shots are worth 3 pts. You need points to win games, and scoring 3 pts at a time is actually a good way to get lots of points. How is that not valuable? A 3 point shot is worth somewhere in the range of 150% of a 2 point shot. That's a lot!Do you follow?

I just don't buy the argument that someone is better than KK because of versatility, when said versatility does not actually lead to wins. It would be like comparing Teague to Howard. Teague does so many more things that DH can't: drive the lane, distribute, defend points, shoot from outside, run an offense, etc etc etc. Howard does like 2 things, but he is so good at those things that he is the better player. Same with Korver: he only does a couple things, but he is world class at them.

Nope. Batum is the more versatile player. I tend to define better as "leads to wins" and best 3PT shooter > average guy who does a lot of different things averagely.

To each and every one of those Batum "points," I merely reply this:Korver puts the ball in the hoop.

He is a better man-on-man defender, sure. He doesn't get significantly more rebounds than Korver, or steals. Korver's offense is so efficient, regardless of what role he's used in, that he contributes more offensively. You could argue that if Korver had the ball in his hands more, he'd fail to 'create' (whatever that means -- I think that's a myth, TBH) and turn it over at the much higher rate that Batum does. But Korver, when used in a role that maximizes his abilities, is incredibly valuable. Batum hasn't shown any of that yet.

I gave you a few specific reasons he was better -- you gave me a GIF. In what way is Batum better than Korver? Only advantage I really see is his age.

What? You realize that Korver's better than Batum, right? Korver turns it over far less, scores MUCH more efficiently, and rebounds at a pretty close clip -- Korver is worse at offensive boards, basically. Yes. Is there a point I'm missing?

Korver's in his prime. His last 3 years have been the best of his career. (Dunleavy's career year was probably the average of Korver.) Last year he was probably twice as valuable as Josh Smith, on a per-minute basis. What's not to like?

Ehh... Who knows why Dunleavy signed that deal, though. Maybe he sees the Bulls as his best chance for a ring. Just because the Dunleavy deal is a steal doesn't make this one a bad one.

I agree that it's on the high range -- but I think it speaks well to the culture of the Hawks now. Perennial playoff team. Also, I feel that this is a good move even if we don't end up with Dwight (and let's be real, we're the Hawks, good things don't happen to us.) I think Korver-Horford-Asik would work better than Korver-Smith-Horford ever did.
