  1. No way we give up 2 first rounders in addition to Smoove/Marvin for just Bosh. Bosh is good guys but he isn't worth all that. I would do the Smoove/Marvin deal but with no picks included. Otherwise we would be giving up the farm in that deal.

  2. If you don't remember Josh Howard was a very good player back then plus they had solid bigs on that roster. Either way they still choked big time 2 years in a row in the playoffs. Is that what we need again after Woody doing the EXACT same thing? Have a great regular season but choke in the playoffs?

  3. I'm pretty sure Devin Harris was traded because that's the only piece that could net them Jason Kidd.

And about the series against the Heat.....that's when I REALLY knew the NBA was fixed.

What about the year after that when Dallas was a #1 seed and lost to the #8 seeded Warriors? That was a complete debacle by Dallas. Plus I can't stand Avery's voice and that alone is one reason why I don't want him. I don't see why you all think Avery is so good anyways. He has done NOTHING mostly as a HC in the NBA. He had a loaded Mavs team and choked in the playoffs every year which is why Cuban fired him.

  4. Come on now..............I already said he will be resigned for 8 mill to $10 mill per. I'm not making a bet where if my own projection is off by jsut $1 that I lose............I need more cushion then that.

The deal was a $20 hawksquawk donation if it takes more then the MLE to sign Haywood. Simply take it or leave it.

Well i never said it would take only 6 mil to sign him anyways. In my previous post i said it wouldn't take more than 8mil. I never questioned it would take the MLE or less.

  5. How could we sign both of them ? Where does the cap room come from ?

There are alot of teams out there with tons of salary cap space. Haywood will get more then the $6 mill MLE. I'll be happy to wager you a friendly $20 hawksquawk donation on that.

If we don't resign JJ we will have plenty of money left to spend right? Haywood won't get more than 8mil per year.

  6. I don't think Ray Allen is going to command a huge salary by any means at his age. I'm just suggesting we sign him for something reasonable for maybe 2 yrs if we lose JJ. Haywood is not going to get 10mil per year! your crazy! We could sign him to a reasonable contract as well. If we were going to sign JJ to 15mil per year and don't then i would think we could get both Allen for around 6mil per for 2 years and Haywood for 8mil per at the most. Why can't that be done? I'm assuming we will have some money to spend if we don't resign JJ right?

  7. I believe all we need is to tweak this roster and hire a REAL NBA coach who will demand respect from his players and incorporate a REAL offensive/defensive gameplan instead of Woody's garbage ISO offense and switching defense. I think we should try to resign JJ and keep the core together. It would be nice to possibly make a trade for a real center but we clearly need to add some veteran depth that can actually contribute. Blowing up the team is NOT the answer right now until we at least get a real coach in here with this team.

  8. Completely agree here! Maybe Joe saved us some money with his awful performance this postseason. we might be able to sign for something reasonable this offseason. I honestly believe with a real coach who can demand respect from his players and put a real offense/defense together the sky is the limit for this team. Resign Joe and get a REAL SOLID center on this team and we will be right back in the playoffs again next year. I could really see this team doing a 360 with a real coach here.

  9. Byron Scott would be a great pickup for us. He won't deal with any of this lack of effort whining business going on now and would command the players respect unlike potato head Woody who they just ignore and curse at during timeouts. Plus he is a proven winner!

  10. Hey gutz, "complete moron"? Stay classy..

Plskeepbibby has it right on the head.. whether you guys want to admit it or not, these games are treated like an event. Atlanta does not deserve this team.. I have heard from some reliable sources that a lot of the players don't like the fans, and it creates a weird line of discontent. The only attractive thing Atlanta has for prospective free agents is the fact there are a lot of good-looking single women in ATL, and that is a known fact. To be honest, that should be such a major selling point to get NBA Free Agents, but since it is such a terrible basketball town, that turns a lot of FA's away.

Don't get me wrong, Denver the place I live in is fairweathered, but not to the magnitiude of Atlanta. When national broadcasters come in and talk about how quiet or how many empty seats there are in the arena, that is a bad thing. I don't blame the fans for this poor performance of the Hawks, but I do blame them for not being a good crowd, or a smart crowd for that matter. If I had to guess the top 5 cities that could lose a team in the next decade because of lack of support, ATL would have to be right up there with the likes of Memphis.. Do I like to say this? No. But this team might be better off in St. Louis where it came from.

hey don't make ridiculous posts that make no sense then and I won't call you a moron . Are you honestly going to sit there and say New York fans have never booed the Yankees, Mets, or Knicks? Give me a break man. Every fan in every city has a right to boo their team espeically when your team gives ZERO EFFORT like the Hawks have this entire series except for maybe Game 2. You guys need to quit whining about ATL not having good fans. I live in the ATL and have been a dedicated fan for years but I won't stand for my team not even trying in probably the biggest home playoff game for the Hawks since the Nique days on Sat.

  11. This needs to be said, although I don't want to say it....

I'm an out of town Hawks fan in Denver, but I honestly don't blame Joe Johnson for getting upset with the fans... They have proven they are the worst fans in the playoffs (perhaps tied with LA). The fans don't care.. don't create a good atmosphere at all.. Then they turn their backs when it goes wrong. I am disappointed in this team, but mostly these fans. I'm tired of watching Hawks games at the Highlight Factory, only to be filled with empty seats.. I'm not really sure that ATL deserves an NBA team.

This is a stupid post! How can you say the fans don't care or show up? Hawks were 34-7 at HOME this year! WIthout the home crowds the Hawks would not win this many games. How did the Hawks take the Celtics to 7 games 3 year ago? We won all three home games because of the electric home crowd. I know because i went to every game and they feed off the fans. You are a complete moron! JJ has done NOTHING this whole postseason and there is no problem with the fans including me to boo this team right now. Give me a break.

  12. Woody is an awful coach with no control of his team. It showed again tonight the way we came out in the 3rd qtr up 8 and just weren't mentally ready. We should of came out and punched Orlando in the mouth. Instead we come out flat with no sense of urgency and turn it over the first 3 possessions and the game was tied up in the first 3min. Give me a break! I could coach this team better than this potato head fool

  13. Haha, Woody is such an idiot and so is Smoove! Give me a break! You didn't play a good game 2 Smoove. You were awful on defense and got lucky with a few jumpers. Come on man. This guy is a fool!

Atlanta Hawks: Woody sticks up for Smoove

3:38 pm May 7, 2010, by Michael Cunningham

Smoove says he wasn't sulking during Game 2. (AP)

Woody said he typically doesn’t listen to broadcasters when reviewing video of games. But he said he heard about Hubie Brown’s critical comments of Josh Smith during Game 2 vs. Orlando on Thursday. Brown, the ex-Hawks coach and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, criticized Smith for failing to hustle back downcourt when he got frustrated by officials’ calls and bad plays.

It’s happened at times this season with Smith, whom Woody said is “still growing as player.” But Woody defended Smith from the outside criticism.

“We see that on tape and we point that out,” he said. “I don’t need Hubie or them guys like that [to do it]. I heard comments today that Hubie was blistering Josh Smith. Well, he can get away with it because he’s coached. But I don’t know if I can let you guys get away with it.

“That is my job as coach to point that out to Smoove and guys like that when they are doing that. And trust me, it don’t go unnoticed. He knows about it at the end of the day. Our tapes are thoroughly broken down and mistakes are pointed out.”

As it turns out, Smoove also watched a replay of the ESPN broadcast. He said he couldn’t sleep when the Hawks returned from Orlando early this morning so he caught the repeat broadcast of the game.

He said he heard some of Brown’s criticisms but shrugged them off.

“I was definitely into it mentally,” he said. “I always speak my peace with the referees. That doesn’t get me out of my game at all. That just makes me play harder to make them call calls.”

Was he sulking when things didn’t go his way?

“Maybe my body language looked different than my [mentality],” he said. “My [mentality] was strong. It was there. I don’t know, maybe I’ve got to lift my shoulders or something?”

Did he allow his frustrations to affect his effort level?

“I don’t think so,” he said. “I am too ahead of the game in my career now where I [would] let little minor things affect me. I think I played a good game yesterday.”

Smith finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists. But he also had five turnovers and took six jump shots from beyond 10 feet with two makes.

Smith’s failure to get back on defense also contributed to Orlando’s success in transition.

“You just teach from the tapes and you hope like hell that they learn from it and when they get in that situation again they get their [butts] back on defense,” Woody said. “Because we were terrible in transition defense. We gave up at least 12, 14 points because we didn’t get back and get matched.”

  14. I hate to say it but this is not just a piss poorly coached team but they are mentally weak as well sans Horford. They flat out choke in crucial moments. We had ever chance to win that game with a strong fourth quarter but we just gave it away. I'm more disgusted with that fourth quarter than the entire humiliation in game one.

Couldn't agree more Sothron. Hit the nail on the head here! I'm still baffled the way we came out in the 3rd qtr. up 8 pts. We should of hit them in the mouth the first 5min.. Instead we just act with no sense of urgency and the game was tied within the first 3min. of the qtr. while Smoove was just being lazy on D and pouting the whole time. UNACCEPTABLE. WOODY HAS NO CONTROL OF THIS TEAM.

  15. Guys Smoove is a complete idiot. He clearly has barely any formal education probably can barely read. He has ZERO respect for Woody and Woody is too dumb to call him out for the crap he did AGAIN last night. I still can't believe what I was watching at the start of that 3rd qtr. last night when Smoove was completely out of the game mentally and didn't give a s***. That was the most crucial part of the game the first 5min. of the 3rd qtr. after being up 8 at halftime. We should of hit them in the mouth right at the start but instead Smoove just pouts and doesn't even try on defense? I mean WTF! This guy is a complete immature, retarded homeboy! Get em the hell out of here. Trade him for a real Center like Kaman or someone. Geez

  16. Looking back how does BK even pick Marvin since he just drafted 2 power forwards the year before in Smoove and Childress. Just an all around awful pick. Marvin is the weakest SF i've ever seen. He can't drive to the hoop without falling down, turning it over or getting his shot swatted. And like the other guy said he can't even hit a 3 now. When was the last game Marvin hit a 3 point basket? It had to be a few months ago at least because i sure can't remember and I watch every game. What a bust!
