  1. I wish we could have both back, but if I had to choose one, it would be Marvin over Childress. My reasoning: the 2 games that Joe missed and Marvin was asked to be our primary scorer, Marvin stepped up. Those games showed a lot about what Marvin could possibly do if he was given more priority as a scorer (on our team he fell behind Joe, Bibs, and J Smoove usually). Dude got to the line more than 25 times in those two games and I think he dropped over 25 points in each game (i'm too lazy to look this up but am just going based on what I think i remember). I know its a small sample, but could Childress ever do that for us? I don't think so. Remember, the Denver game (in Denver) where Carmelo was on fire and talking s*** to Marvin and the rest of our team. Marvin didn't back down...he came right back at him and got us back in the game. Dude has the fire in him...unfortunately, he's also such a team guy (some call it coach-able), we need a coaching staff that can bring that fire out of him more often. Unfortunately, our coach is a moron when it comes to utilizing our players' strengths and doesn't know how to bring out the best in Marvin on a daily basis. I bet if the Bobcats picked up Marvin and Larry Brown got to work w/ him, Marvin would be dropping 20 points/game. LB would get him running around off picks and just drilling that midrange jumper all night ala Rip. Also, I think Marvin's perimeter D is very underrated. Our last game told me a lot about Marvin. He came out scraping and clawing against LeBron, and really set the tone for us defensively. He didn't back down and really stepped up the to the challenge of guarding LBJ after he was inserted back as the starter. I remember him diving for looseballs on multiple occasions in that first quarter, getting in the passing lane, and just playing with a lot of energy on D. It seemed like whenever LeBron was shooting a jumper, Marvin was bothering him. There was an out of bounds play where the Cavs had a short shot clock and they tried to throw an out of bounds alley-oop to LeBron. Earlier in the series, when Evans was on him on a play similar to this, LeBron caught the ball and slammed it. However, this time Marvin got up and using his athleticism and his reach, was able get his hands on the ball and cause a turnover. There was another play near the sidelines where Marvin went diving head first for a looseball. His jumper was off (expectedly-dude did have a hand injury for over 2 weeks and if it was the regular season probably wouldn't be playing) and he wasn't himself on O, but defensively, he gave a great effort. I'm kind of scared to think about losing a guy like this. I really think if utilized correctly, he could become what everyone expected him to be when he was drafted. I really wonder if Marvin isn't as good as everyone thought he would be or is it the coaching that has held him back? Would CP3 be the same player playing for Woody? I'm not so sure. I know he would be good but would he be the best point guard in the NBA playing for our coach? I really really dont think he would be.
  2. First of all, I'm still so amped from last night! I couldn't sleep last night and stayed up watching the replay at 2 AM. F**k Paul Pierce and his weak wanksta a**! I'm so glad Al Horford did what he did. I hated PP since he said that Joe Johnson didn't deserve to be in the All-Star game because of his team's record. He's the last person that needed to make a comment like that considering what his teams records were for the last few years. Its so nice to finally support a team that has a mentality of not being afraid or backing down from anyone...no matter how big or bad the opponent is! I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the video they played last night at Phillips during the player introductions. I keep reading about this really awesome video that they played at the arena, speaking about underdogs and upsets, and I really want to see it. Does anyone have a copy of it that they can upload on here? Oh yeah, I doubt anyone has this but if theres a copy of the Muhammad Ali video that Big Al showed the team, that would be great to have on here also. Thanks! Go Hawks!
  3. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We back bi***es, we back!!!! The first phase of this ever-lasting rebuilding is finally complete!
  4. I have a Pharmacology final Friday morning. And I can't freaking focus on studyinig cuz I'm so excited about Thurs! I've never checked a website so often as I've been checking Hawksquawk the last 2 weeks. Please let us do something big....whether its Amare or Gasol + Calderon...please, please let it happen. I don't wanna fail my final for nothing!! And I'm so ready to start talking smack back to all my friends who have been making jokes about the Hawks for oh so so long now.
  5. Atlanta - no brainer; while Gasol may not be the defensive presence many of us would like, he fills another gaping need on our team - a threat on the block. From watching the games last year, it was evident that we were waaaaaay too dependent on jumpshots. If they were falling, we were gonna be in the game. If they weren't, we were in trouble. We never had a consistent scorer down low. Gasol fits that need perfectly. And in the East, he'd be a perennial All-Star, no doubt in my mind. It also allows us to keep our core of JJ, JS, Marvin, and Chillz in tact. I feel that the lineup of this 4 plus either a PG (when we want to play small) or this 4 plus Gasol (when we want to play big) can cause fits for other teams in small stretches of games. Not many teams would be able to match our "length" and athleticism. Memphis - as far as talent goes, this is the most Memphis can expect to get back in return for Gasol, I believe. Randolph has his character issues, but on the court he's an all-star level player. Throwing in Jack fills the need for a PG and allows them to draft Horford, who they supposedly covet very much right now. If Memphis kept Gasol and then drafted Horford at 4, they would still have a hole at the PG spot. Therefore, as far as talent goes, I believe Memphis comes out on the greater end after making the trade. I'm not familiar with their organization though and have no clue if they would be willing to take someone like Randolph on their team or not. Portland - I believe they're getting the short end of the deal as far as talent goes, but this does allow them to get rid of Randolph and open the way for an Aldridge-Oden PF-C combo. It also allows them to keep Oden and Conley together (2 guys who have tremendous chemistry and have translated that into great success). While I'm not sure how they'd feel about bringing in Speedy and Wright, I feel that it would not be as bad as we all think. That team is loaded with young talent and some veteran experience would not be a bad thing. But unlike us, they would not be dependent on Speedy and Lo for big time contributions. Instead, Speedy can show Conley the ropes (at least on the defensive end of the court) until he's ready. And Lo would just be a locker room guy giving some guidance to the young fellas.
  6. What do you guys think about this? Atlanta outgoing: Lorenzen Wright Speedy Claxton 2007 #3 Atlanta incoming: Pau Gasol Memphis outgoing: Pau Gasol Memphis incoming: Zack Randolph Jarret Jack Portland outgoing: Zack Randolph Jarret Jack Portland incoming: Speedy Claxton Lorenzen Wright Atlanta #3 Honestly, I feel like Portland wouldn't do it but I'd throw it out there if I was BK just to see how bad they want Conley. And the other positive for them is that they get rid of that knucklehead Randolph. I'm not sure if Memphis would want to bring in a numbskull like Randolph but this would allow them to replace Gasol immediately with another post scorer. They can then draft Horford with the #4 pick and have two very good players on the block. They also need a PG and this need gets filled with Jack. This allows us to get Gasol and keep our #11 pick which we can draft Crittenton (preferred) or Law with. If either of the teams wants us to throw in the #11 pick, then the only way that happens is if the scenario is switched and Jack is coming to Atlanta. Let me know what you think. And I apologize if this scenario has already been mentioned and my post is redundant.

    Conley vs. Law

How's Law's passing? He didn't throw a single pass in that clip. If he's not a good distributor, I don't want him. We got enough people capable of scoring, but we need a PG that will make it easier for them to score. Someone who knows the other players strengths and weaknesses and can get the ball to them in the right positions for them to be efficient and effective.
  9. You gotta start the negotiations at a high price. No one is ever going to accept the first offer you throw at them so you have to ask for more than they're willing to give up. I believe BK knows he's not going to get Roy and just wants Aldridge. But if he let Portland know that he just wants Aldridge, they would probably counter offer something lower in value. Its just the way the game has to be played, and I'm glad Billy is bringing his best poker face to the negotiating table. If they really want Conley so bad, make them pay! Say Roy or Aldridge HAVE to be included if they just want to start talking to us about getting our third pick, and then hopefully we can walk away with Aldridge + Jack. I still prefer a deal for Gasol or Jermaine O'Neal though. Gasol over O'Neal because of his injury history. Like its being said on this board, I feel like we're at a point now that we need to stop acquiring "potential" and instead we need to use our current assets to get stars or proven players that can get us to the playoffs next year. If we don't trade our picks, I would like to take Yi at 3 and Conley/Law/Crittenton at 11.
  10. How about our #3 and #11 for Gasol and their #4? I know we need to throw in some salary to make it work, but if they'd be willing to take Marvin, then I believe they would have to consider the #11 pick (instead) since this draft is so deep. And then we can take the point guard we want at #4 and fill our needs at the 1 and 5. Personally, this is the trade I would like BK to go after.
