  1. And now you have me thinking about it. I'll gladly take Thaddeus Young over Deng and Ariza, especially considering what the both of them are allegedly asking for. But the more important question is whether the Sixers would be THAT stupid to hand him over?

if John Salmons is a part of a trade to acquire either Greg Monroe or Thad Young, I think a LOT of Hawks fans will be happy.

  2. Just thinking about it, We may have been saving Salmons for a SNT of Deng from Cleveland.  That means, his cap is 10 Million but he's good for 5 years.

So maybe we offer a 5 years 40 Million dollar deal.  That deal starts at 7.275 Million for us.  Maybe holding on to Deng for too long but maybe he's not done.

Would I be mad with a 5 year deal for Deng?  It's not that bad of a deal, we have done worst for lesser players.

Deng made over $14M last year.  He is probably thinking this is is last chance for a big contract, given his age.  Why would he consider a contact offer paying almost half of what he made?  We love our Hawks however the feeling may not be mutual with the available free agents, especially if almost insulting contract offers are made.

  3. I'm not...many if you thought he was going to be too expensive but I knew he'd be 7m at the most!

Damn I'm pissed we missed out on him. He really fits the system and can get you atleast 8 boards a game

To get a good young center for under $6M/year is a bargain.  I wonder if we considered him.

Being patient is tough but that is the only option we have at this time.

  4. I recently came across an article in which it was stated that Hawks front-office is very much tight-lipped about it's business, no leaks whatsoever... I expect something similar this year too...

This is how business is done.  Not much negotiation is done through the media but directly with those involved.  Agents are probably the source of most leaks as a negotiation tactic, getting more money for their client.

  5. I think Deng may be another smokescreen.  I think Ferry has been really good at keeping things quiet.

For the right price Deng is alright, but I'd rather not have him.  Big reason I don't see us getting him is his 3pt shooting.  He's had a few decent seasons shooting but looks to be on the decline and is a career 32% shooter from deep.  It's no secret this is a huge part of Bud's offense and this is where I see Parsons as more of a fit.

A big part of Bud's offense is defense, which Deng will definitely bring.  This is definitely a current area of weakness for Parson's and would put more pressure on the other players.

  6. People will complain whatever DF does.

They complained when Korver was signed (6M? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa? OVERPAID).

They complained when Teague was matched (8M? HOLY F! OVERPAID)

They complained when Smith was shown the door (AWWWWWW... He's gone for nothing! Fire LD DF!)

They complained when Millsap was signed (9.5M per? I'd only have paid 7. OVERPAID BUM!)

    Smh... you infidels.

then people say "I love Horford, but I'd trade him if the team would get better", but then they cry "the sky is falling" when friggin LOU WILLIAMS and a project big who no one even knows he'll ever play in the NBA get traded for cap space...

    You serious?

LOL, I love this board. We're all armchair GMs here... And won't let the actual one do his job without complaining.

As a geologist, I know if some guy shows a tiny piece of rock to 50 geologists, he's probably get 49 different stories about that rock. Any move DF makes, we'll all have different opinions about it.

But at the end of the day, it is what it is...

I hated the JJ trade, and nowadays I understand I was wrong. I loved the LW trade, and this time I'm hoping I'm right.

    Good post!

  7. I think this one's on its way to Trade Rumors.

And. I see Hinkle having interest in Scott, but only Scott.

Yes, the case could be made that their roster cries out for someone they can depend on to score, but I think they can find someone with a less recent history of injury and at a lower price tag than $6 mil.

Given LouWill has one year left on his contract, that could appeal to Philly.  This could be a case of trading a two year, $20M commitment for a one year (depending on what Scott's negotiated salary would be).

  8. I like the idea of acquiring Young for two players.  i don"t know if the salaries will match up for the once you mentioned, especially since Scott is a restricted free agent.  Young has two years left on his contract, paying salaries of 9,410,869 then 9,971,739.  This fits well in DF's strategy of short contracts however I agree having someone like Young would make us more competitive.  I wonder if LouWill would want to go back given he started his career there and Philly will not be playing for a championship next season.

Also on your roster, I'd keep Mack as a 3rd PG over Jenkins as a 3rd SG.  The SG position is more interchangeable than the PG.

  9. I don't understand why we did not keep Zaza. He could have given us a slight hometown discount or a team option on 3rd year. We are not tanking anyway, we are trying to win now. By the way I would choose Zaza over those guys every day.

I doubt you would find many to disagree with this sentiment however ZaZa has moved on. Now is the time to focus on who can fill that role for the 13-14 edition of the Hawks.

  10. Aldrich was the 11th pick.I would be happy with Dalembert or Mozgov as a starter. The others I think are backup center material. I think Muscala will help out from a size factor.

Good list and I agree with this comment. I would speculate that Dalembert may be looking for a larger payday or a situation with a team that will be competing for the championship.

  11. This is no different than any other story throwing names around to different teams with cap space. It's all speculation, which is fine when its just for exploring scenarios. It's an interesting story but not exactly new information.

I would like a 1 or 2 year deal for Bynum. If he is injured then that helps our draft stock. No problem. If healthy he's a beast. Works for me.

Why do you think Bynum would accept a 1 or 2 year deal?

  12. If you look at his career stats, you will see he has done pretty well, especially when he was with the Clippers. He had some injury issues which has resulted in him playing less than 50 games for two seasons a while back though he did play 66 games for Dallas this past year. Some of you might remember talk of trading JSmith for him several years ago. He has consistently averaged in double figures in scoring while doing a decent job on the boards. He's a UFA also.

Given the model of signing players to short term contracts DFerry seems to want, Kaman may take a 2 year/$18 million (he made $8 Million last year) contract. If healthy, I think he is good for 28-34 minutes a game consistently. He's only 31 years old also.

Any thoughts or better suggestions? I'd only consider Bynum for a contract that protects the Hawks in case of injuries.

  13. I like 2 out of favor guys who we can get on the real cheap this coming off season. I think Kaman could be the starting C we have needed to move Al to the PF. He has a history of getting injured but is a former All-Star and can play given minutes. If he does go down we could always move Al back the C to cover some minutes.

I also like Aaron Brooks, think he is very similar to Teague. If Teague is re-signed could be a very good back up at a dirt cheap price, he's fast can shot can create. I think AB could be alot like Nate Robinson (who I have loved for years), these 2 could be low risk high reward types every teams wants.

I agree that Kaman is worth considering, especially if the price is right. There was talk the Hawks had some interest in him a few years ago. He has averaged over double digits in points since 2005 and with the exception of this past season has averaged 7+ rebounds per game.

He is a UFA now with Dallas and probably will not be signed by them. He is 31 years old and has had injuries in the past. I think he can make contributions and possible play 70+ games per year. If the Hawks fail with either Howard or Bynum, Kaman could be a good center if he is willing to accept a 3 year contract.

I also like the idea of Corey Brewer as a swing man.

  14. My kids screamed every time Josh got the ball in the 4th quarter. One commented that Josh wants to 'be the man' yet doesn't have the outside shot to do so. it seems the team forgot what got them the big lead in the first place. My wife even wondered why the team settled for jump shots instead of driving to the basket, as the Pistons were doing.

  15. What's asinine is, giving him the ball over and over, as you say, "doing the same thing expecting a different result." He can't blunder if you don't give him the ball. If he is who he is going to be, stop setting him (and ourselves) up for failure.

Isn't the question also why is Josh positioned on the far side perimeter when the shot clock is winding down? Marvin would be a much better option for the kick out pass with Josh closer to the basket.

  16. I know this is early but I believe we have a 2nd unit that can be counted on. The first team will probably be able to play less minutes and remain fresh throughout the season. Having a strong 2nd team is important with the compressed schedule this year.

Like most, I liked the offense that Jamal Crawford brought but can't ignore the 'matador' defense he played. We can count on McGrady and Radmanovic to easily replace Jamal's offense while playing better team defense.

    Go Hawks!!!

  17. Manning really fit in well with our team setup and if he had stayed I think the Hawks might have not lost a beat. Since Manning left for PHX we lost nique for nothing.

If memory serves me right, the Hawks also gave up a first round pick in the deal. Late in the round but a first round pick nonetheless...
