Have you seen anything to suggest Cleveland is looking to blow up their roster? Why is it that everyone thinks Cleveland would trade AV for 'scraps' from other teams?

  2. I think that egos might get in the way.

There is only one basketball and it remains to be seen if there will be enough touches for everyone.

The difference between this trio and the ones for the Celtics is age. The Celtic trio understood they needed to submit to the team concept to accomplish their ultimate goal. Will this trio have the same mindset?

  3. Very good link!

If I had to make a guess based on the unrestricted free agent centers, Brad Miller could be an interesting choice based on his history of running 'pick and rolls' along with moving to a motion offense.

Like most, I would LOVE to see Shaq come to ATL (along with the additional media attention he would bring). He would bring a LOT when we go to the half court offense at the end of games. I do have some concerns regarding team chemistry and the impact he might have on that. It would be interesting seeing Shaq and ZaZa in the game at the same time also.

  4. Good perspective. That is what I'm hoping for out of them too.

If they do this that $3 mill for the 31st pick will be easily warranted.

When you think about it, getting $3 million dollars was a 'shrewd' business move. That money will cover the salary of Jordan Crawford so the impact to the bottom line is essentially $0. More money is available for JJ and other pickups.

  5. He played with Miami a few years ago and finished this past season with the Knicks. He's 7 foot and 250 lbs which suggests he has good size. He finished the season with a few double doubles although we don't know how hard the opposition played in those games. Best of all, he is probably affordable.

Is he worth giving a guaranteed contract to or should we either extend Morris or try a new big of the bench?

    He are Barron's stats:

    Earl Barron

  6. Im being dead serious. Big Z going to Pho and Amare to Clev would help us I think. Big Z kills us, all day all night. He has always just stood under the basket and put back Cav misses vs us for years. Then he starts nailing Jumpers and even 3's. Our under sized forwrds are capable of outplaying Sissamire.

There is another rumor that IF this trade were to happen, then Big Z would be cut by the Suns and he would resign with Cleveland in 30 days If there is truth to both of those rumors, it would make it extremely hard for the Hawks to match up. However, if Big Z were cut and he signed with the Hawks, that would make things interesting.......

  7. Long time coming. Good times right now! Keep it rolling.

Good quote by Woody, and it's true. Later on in that article, the President of the Wolves mentioned that he's looking at how the Hawks, Blazers, and Thunder have performed their rebuilding projects as a model to his own...made my head turn a little. The Hawks?? Really?? A model for success? Then again, can't argue with the results the last couple of years. But, it's just weird to read something like that.

A rebuilding project like ours requires both a commitment and patience throughout the process. Fans (rightfully so in many cases) want to win now. Could you imagine where we would be had we sacrificed some of our young talent for a short term fix?

Despite their bad record, NJ has a chance to really move forward given they have a veteran PG in Harris and an up and comer center in Lopez. IMO they are a few pieces along with developing chemistry from being a dangerous team.

  8. Well he didn't miss any shots - zero for zero....did hit a few FTs and make a turnover.

While I was glad to see RandMo get minutes with the first unit, I was concerned with his level of defensive intensity. Most of us probably learned when we were young that the best way to get playing time was to play good defense. He got several 'ticky tack' fouls while setting moving screens, which seems to be a problem he has had. Hopefully he will look at film and realize what he is doing wrong to correct that.

If he wants to be a valued member of the rotation, RandMo has got to take advantage of situations like this....

  9. Forward Jason Collins, an eight-year veteran, said the chemistry of the starters, in particular, was obvious as soon as he got to his first Hawks training camp in September. On defense, for instance, he saw players who knew their roles when the offense rotated the ball and innately trusted their teammates to do theirs.

"You could tell they've been playing together for a little bit," said Collins. "That trust has to be there. The coach, he puts in great schemes and stuff like that, but it's up to the players to execute them and you can see that the players really have that trust."

I found this quote most interesting. It somewhat confirms that 'team chemistry' is a key ingredient to overall success. Players have to know there roles within the team concept and believe their teammates can live up to their expectations...

  10. Siler wouldn't be of much help here because he wouldn't receive any playing time. It is good that he will receive regular playing time because he needs to develop--he wouldn't do that here. I just hope he turns into a more polished player because we desperately need a legit Center with size and skill. Too bad we won't know for probably a couple years.

Not sure why some seem to think that being a young bench and practice player in the NBA will help with his development. Sure, the money is probably better but at the end of the day, you need to play in game time situations to improve your game.

Anyone know about the level of competition in the China leagues? That might be the only concern.

  11. I think JJ and Smoove will be AS. Horford is a possibility but Lopez is probably his main competition as a backup center.

Ditto to what you said, Lopez was the first person that came to my mind as competition for Horford. In fairness, the team having a bad season could hurt Lopez's chances....

  12. Woody the key to our 1st half offense against Orlando and this game: dont let players stand still and watch, pass the ball and get them involved....

Well said!!! There was a brief period in the 3rd quarter when 'ISO Joe' started again and the Raptors scored 8 quick points. To Woody's credit, he did call a timeout when that happened. He's got to drill into the players that when they share the ball, good things happen!

  13. Stinger wants no part of traveling

No surprised by this. Mike has a son that should be a Junior in high school. I would think he wants to be around for him at least until he graduates.

  14. Bibby 30 mpg / Teague 10 mpg / Crawford 8 mpg

    JJ 26 mpg / Crawford 22 mpg

    Marvin 32 mpg / JJ 8 mpg / Mo 8 mpg

    Smoove 34 mpg / Smith 10 mpg / Horford 4 mpg

    Horford 28 mpg / ZaZa 15 mpg / Collins 5 mpg

Good suggestion however look for Collins to have a lot of DNP-CDs unless we play teams with a dominant big man, i.e. Howard, Shaq. Those 5 minutes will probably be split between Smith and ZaZa.

  15. Not sure if anyone's already posted it, but I randomly came across this article just now...

Hawks' Joe Johnson could be headed to Knicks next summer

    By Mark Miller

Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson(notes) is saying that he has no interest in signing a deal with the team before he becomes a free agent next summer, according to the New York Post.

Johnson played for New York Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni for two years when they were both with the Phoenix Suns so he's the kind of familiar face D'Antoni likes. While the Knicks are clearly aiming to nab such big-name free agents as LeBron James(notes) and Dwyane Wade(notes) next summer, Johnson may be on the team's wish list now, too, if they can't spend all of the pennies they've saved on who they really want.

The 6'7" 28-year-old wouldn't be a bad choice. He averaged 16.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in the playoffs.

As you read this, you can see it is simply media speculation. This will happen a lot over the course of the season. We should expect every team that has cap space to consider Joe although it will probably happen more on team blogs.

  16. With the signing of Joe Smith I have to give Sund the crown. During an offseason when so many things could have gone bad given our many FAs and Sund had so little to work with in terms of tradable players and picks, I think most if not all would think Sund hit it out of the park. You could not expect any better IMO. However, perhaps some of you recall better. If so, I'm all ears because I would like to put what I think is a phenomenal offseason in perspective.

Only the trade of Andersen (who apparently wanted mor PT than we could promise) for a 2nd rder was a slight bummer, but Joe Smith might be a better fit for us as a true BU Pf. I'm stoked!

    Well said!

I asked a question before that I'll ask again. Will the media give Sund that same credit and love that Dmitroff has gotten for the Falcons?

  17. I just spoke with Mike Glenn at the Piccadilly Cafeteria on Memorial Dr. in Stone Mountain.

He is such a normal guy.

Mike Glenn is a GREAT guy! Our sons were classmates several year ago in elementary school. He also ran a basketball camp, primarily for students at that school over spring break. His patience with children was something else (if you can imagine running a basketball camp for 2-5th graders). He has also written several books that are worth reading.

It's good when you seek folks like Mike outside of their professional environment. You find out you have far more in common than some would think.

  18. P.S. I have a world of confidence in our GM, and I believe that he'll do the best for the Hawks... meaning, re-sign JJ.

It is interesting that Thomas Dimitroff gets props for what he is doing with the Falcons. The same type of props should be given to

Sund for what he has done over the past year. To think, this is still work in progress.

  19. 5 year 80 million for Roy. That is 15 million a year. I consider these guys pretty much the same player...will this be the amount that it will take to get Joe?

Your math is a little off as this is 16 million/year. Nonetheless I think his camp may request upwards of 18 million/year (5 yrs - 90 million). Whether the Hawks are willing to pay that is another question.

  20. We have made good moves this offseason:

    1. We didn't let any core players walk. We kept our young guys here and have a good base to continue to build on.

    2. We didn't over-pay to keep anyone here. Say what you want, but we kept the salaries within reason.

    3. We got rid of dead weight and parlayed it into depth and good bench scoring.

    4. We drafted a PG who so far is getting rave reviews.

We have managed to keep players on the up-slope of their careers and shown that we are willing to spend a couple bucks. I still see no downside here.

Adds/Keeps: Marvin, Zaza, Crawford, Teague, Bibby

    Losses: Speedy, Acie, Solo, Flip

Or should we have tried to break the bank on a 45 year old Rasheed or a 10mpg player like Gortat? My goodness...getting something good back for the Speedy/Acie poo-poo platter deserves a nobel prize!

Anyone who thinks we took a step back is just looking for things to complain about.

    Well said!!!!

  21. Earl Barron will be in camp. Is he a likely candidate for one of the positions? He's a big dude but been overseas.

I recall Sekou mentioning him as a possibility before this past season. He played with the Heat in 07-08 and finished the season pretty strong. Not sure why he did not stick with a team last year. That could be telling....

  22. I dont know much about dude, but why not take a risk of getting him he's not going to be any worse than morris. An he could be just as good as solo or better. What I do like about dude is that he has a great Size. I mean 6'11 305 pounds! It aint gon get no bigger than that unless you shaq! Anyways I hope this guy does a great job when he comes to visit us. He would give us some good size comin off the bench and I dont think he's soft in the paint judging by what I read from other, he will be able to bang in the post for sure. If you have any info on Mr. Garret Siler, please let me know!

Based on everything you read about him, he seems like a 'nice' guy. I worry that he could be the second reincarnation of Preist Lauderdale.
