  1. I would rather sign a solid big man first. We would have room for Barnes since we are losing Mario, Gardner, Solo. That would just give us a very strong bench which we need.

    Bibby/ Flip/ Teague

    JJ/ Crawford

    Marv/ Mo/ Barnes

    Smith/

    Horford/ Zaza/ Morris

  2. Well we did just get cash considerations. We have the money I would bet. Give him 2 yr. 18mill. I would love to have him. He would be a huge upgrade.

The down side is we give up a lot of money. We probably wouldn't resign Marvin. He takes Smith or Horford's spot. He is getting older.

I say skip him. Lets just land 2 big man that bang and give us quality minutes off the bench. I would rather sign Marv anyway.

  3. As many posters have said on this board the Hawks haven't truley upgraded their team since last season.

Lets take a quick look at our moves this off-season in comparison to our starting five and bench.

    Starters in 2008-2009

PG Mike Bibby (re-signed 3 yrs.) = no change

SG Joe Johnson (1 yr. remaining on contract) = no change

SF Marvin Williams (still unsigned) (could possibly be replaced by JJ at SF and Jamal goes to SG) = no significant change

PF Josh Smith (under contract) = no change

C Al Horford (under contract) = no change

6th man Mo Evans (final yr. of contact) = no change

BN Flip Murray (still unsigned; probably will not be signed by Hawks b/c of depth at guard position) (Jamal could potentially be on the bench depending on what happens with Marvin) = no change

BN Zaza (resigned) = no change

BN Acie Law (replaced with Teague) = time will tell how this works out; Acie wasn't benefiting to the team anyways...=slight improvement if Teague contributes

BN Solo, Rio (not signed) = loss

So our only loss is really not resigning Solo and Rio yet. But as you can see this team has not improved that much since last yr. if any. We still need to go out and get a SF and a backup defensive stopper.

Ok wait a min. Keeping out starting lineup is an upgrade. That means better chemistry. These players have been playing with each other for now 3 seasons (counting this upcoming year). Crawford coming off the bench = huge upgrade!! If Joe tires or is having an off game, Crawford, who averaged 19ppg is just like having a starter in their. Resigning Zaza just means more aggresiveness and quailty bench minutes.

If we can add 2 more big men, one being Anderson, then our team is a 50 game winner and fighting for a 3 spot in the East!!!

  4. -Resign Marvin is huge. Gotta get that done to keep the core of our team together.

-Bring in Anderson. I think he would be a better fit then Solo or Randoph. He is big and adds great deph.

-Sign a Banger for 2nd Big. Just adds to a great bench so key players don't tire and becomed injured. This is huge!

  5. Close enough when comparing a point guard to a power forward . . .

Irrelevant. Josh took two 3pt shots per game in the first round and only one 3pt shot the entire Conf Semi-Finals . . .

Close enough for a point guard and a power forward. Josh Smith also made bigger free throws in the decisive parts the games. But we're supposed to overlook that, right?

Why is Josh Smith attempting 30 free throws to Bibby's 3 free throws in a full series?

Was it because one was getting to the rim and the other just shot jumpers when we needed him to be more aggressive?

Or was it that one wasn't playing well (especially at the final 3 games in the Conf Semi-Finals) and had to sit on the bench while Flip Murray outplayed him?

Yep. Josh Smith was our best scorer throughout the entire playoffs . . .

And that's supposed to be a negative on Josh Smith? :laughing5:

He took 1.36 per playoff game played. Wow . . . but but he took soooo many!

So, I suppose he didn't make any moves to the basket? He was the only player not named Flip Murray that did it throughout the entire playoffs . . .

    Let the hating begin . . .

You do realize that you're putting a power forward up there with guards who normally get more steals, right? Out of the top 20 steals leaders for the season, only 5 of them were forwards. And all of those played small forward. That's a great number for a power forward in comparison with guards.

:lol6: That 1.54 blocks per game puts Josh at #10 throughout the playoffs, he probably could have done better. But the next best player for the Hawks came in at #36 with .67. I know you expect Josh to get more than anyone; and not our center that you all love so much. Josh Smith's number was virtually the same as during the season, with no drop off. The same cannot be said for Al Horford who got less than half per game than he did throughout the season. Centers normally have more blocks per game than power forwards, except on our team. But that is forgiven because Al Horford is so beloved.

To sum it all up. Josh and Bibby were close in the first series (with a slight edge to Josh in my opinion, since Josh played better than Bibby in 4 of the 7), but Bibby stunk it up big time in the Conf. Semi-Finals, whereas Josh Smith was pretty good . . . so how in the world can Bibby be the best throughout when he failed to show up in the 2nd round?

Ok, when you compare this PF to PG in catagories it doens't make sinse for Josh because he thinks he is a guard by dribbling the ball down the court and proceeding to make a dumb pass. He shoots dumb three pointers that airball after we go on a nice 6-0 run and just totally kills the momentum. He gives up on defense when we are down by 10 or more. He whines EVERY single time he drives the lane. He jump shot is horrible. He free throw shooting is some of the worst in the league.

All Josh Smith should do is very simple. Catch the ball, take 1 dribble, slam the ball. That simple. I've seen him do it when he gets pissed off and I just think "huh, why doesn't he do this every time, he is good enough to but he chooses to hold back?" His numbers were down this year in a lot of catagories. It is time for Smith to stop being a baby and step up. He is capable of being a top force in this league if he could keep his head straight and stop making stupid basketball plays I wouldn't criticize him!

  6. I don't think people take into consideration the impact Bibby has on these young guys outside of the white lines. People see that he has aged, and lost a step or two, and they want him out. I suppose every player on a team needs to be 23,24 and veterans mean nothing. You need leaders in the huddle, on the court, mentors for the young guys. Players look up to Bibby. Woodson needs him to take control on the court.

After all that, he can still produce! He can still play!

    Completely agree!

  7. I would have liked to see Acie get a shot but since that's out the window I say go ahead and start Bibby with limited minutes. The most important thing now is to give Teague as much PT as possible so that he can start making an impact sooner.

If we wouldn't have made the trade for Crawford then I would have liked to have seen Acie do his thing to but I would rather have Crawford any day of the week. Teague will get playing time. Lets hope he wasn't a bust like Acie...

  8. *Sigh* let me clarify this for you

    Camby

    is

    a

    help

    defender

He get's the majority of his blocks by hanging around the paint and swatting other guys shots when they drive the lane. He is as capable of defending man on as Zaza is. I can just bring recent memory from his Denver days because I've never bothered to watch him in LA. When facing the Spurs, despite being the smaller defender, Kenyon Martin was asked to defend Duncan man on while Camby worked as helpside D. Why? Because Kenyon can actually defend post players man on. Blocks and blocks per minute are not an indication of man defense the same way steals are not an indication of man defense.

Josh Smith is the same way. Everybody thinks he is a grea defender when is not. As i've said, he stands around way too much and watches opponents set up and take their jumper. People enjoy his occansional block in the stands but a block is a block. I will give him credit on his court to court block but he could do that all the time but he is lazy! He thinks he is an All-Star player and he is far from it. Camby is a threat to people driving in the lane. He has been around longer and knows how to settle the paint.

  9. Suspend him. That was low. That was made for people to open it up and discuss their dislike for Woodson. What a Joke! What if everyone made up their own BS post like that? Breaking News: Josh Smith traded! Only to find it is meant to hate on Smoove! Totally uncalled for!
