Given the standard you set out, I agree that Trae doesn't meet it. He isn't overwhelmingly dominant on offense due to scoring efficiency and isn't a stud player on both sides of the court. There are probably only a few people who do meet this standard but I've got no problem saying that Trae wasn't one of them last year or for the totality of his career to date. Hope he gets there (by becoming overwhelming on offense - improved D would also be great but he will never dominate on that end).
It’s why I’ve long held the NBA and its parity and distribution of talent has been lacking for some time.
This all said I do believe if you put a guy like that with Trae the Hawks would be one of the top teams in the league. I’m just not sure Trae without a perfect cast around him can be that guy in this era of the league.

If that's your definition, then the league has lacked a lot of 1s. But as I thought, you're just looking at measurables and not accomplishments and you're making up the rest. Like efficiency.. Really? Young has a PER that is higher than both Steve Nash and John Stockton. But anyway...
Yeah, he's not long enough. But by the time he finishes his career, barring in---y... He will finish as a top 10 PG in the History of the game.
Let me clarify for you then. He isn’t consistently efficient. Of course I’m looking at accomplishments, you want to be considered a true top guy in the league you need to carry your team. And yea there aren’t a lot of 1s which is partially why the NBA is a mid product overall.
I get it yall believe you can build a team around him as your top guy. Maybe you can but it has to be absolutely perfect of a build to compensate for his shortcomings. I’d love to see a true dominant player with Trae. Let Trae be the spot up shooting, drive and dish, pick and roll guy. Facilitate instead of be the top scoring option.

This is not an attack on you @noble , This is questioning your position....
What makes a 1 in your world @noble??
Obviously it's not accomplishments or what a player does on the court. It must be their measurables off the court. Because anytime you care to consider accomplishments...
IF Trae Young is a 2, he is the most decorated 2 in NBA History!!! GTFOH
It’s the ability to play elite on both ends of the floor or to be unstoppable on the offensive side. The issue is Trae isn’t efficient enough or consistent enough to be THE guy on offense and he’s awful on the defensive side of the court, a liability. If you want to be considered one of the best players in the league you can’t be a liability in any way.
When he doesn’t have the ball he can get uninterested on the offensive end at times. The Celtics figured out to pressure him which led to a ton of turnovers.
The real issue is due to his lack of length and defensive issues the team you need around him needs to be almost perfect to compensate. The margin of error is smaller just due to these things. It’s why I think he’s a top flight number 2 guy.

You were 1000% correct when you said You know some will disagree.
I disagree.
Trae is a superstar and some of you won't realize it until he's gone winning a chip somewhere else and going into the hall of fame.
We were supposed to get better last year but we kept the same coach. This year with a new coach, i expect to see a better team. Talent is not our problem.
He’s a 2 to a 1. So if he leaves and wins a chip it will because he joined a 1.
I dunno how players are magically going to start playing defense when it hasn’t been who they are
-
This team hasn’t gotten any better and doesn’t have, and yea I know some will disagree, a true superstar that can truly take over a game on both ends of the floor. Just how it goes with this team.
tall can hold out hope, which is fine, but this team isn’t better than at least 10 teams in the league.

I mean most (not all) of the responses were about how ridiculous the possibility was that the Hawks would trade Trae to the Mavs. Not about you or the idea that the Mavs wanted him.
You think going to a Mavs board and saying the Hawks are interested in acquiring Luka will get responses of "that's interesting thanks for the info"?
No, because honestly from my understanding there has been zero trade discussion surrounding Luka and Cuban has shot down all calls regarding such.
What does interest me in this case is that there has been repeated reports about the issues here in Atlanta surrounding Trae and Nate.
I do not have any sources within the Hawks org though. Hence why I only gave what I know from this end.

what source? You said the Mavs were interested in Trae and then shared an article that reads like a RGM post.
And all in all you provided nothing of substance to substantiate your claim.
One of us definitely needs to learn journalism, that i agree with.
I was substantiating the claim as a discussion that occurred beyond the report I’m sure you had already seen, being a fan and all.
As for who my source is? That’s not how journalists work. Feel free to disregard the conversation happened. Like I said I don’t know how serious the convo was or if any type of compensation was discussed. Just that inside the Mavs it happened.

FWIW I made a post in here defending you. I appreciate that you shared that information and I hope you share any more whispers you hear covering the Dallas Cowboys and hobnobbing with other writers/insiders.
I know some of the folks on here are openly skeptical of any insider information but for some reason you really seemed to catch some higher than usual flak for it. Don't let that stop you from sharing information in the future. I've had enough people bother me about my posts that I'm way more selective about what I share these days.
I appreciate it. All I tried to do was say that part of the rumors has actually occurred here in conversation and in consideration in DFW.
I get it. Fans want to believe Trae can be the guy to finally give this team a ring.
Weird Cowboys rumor is they actually considered TO this season at 49. Didn’t and won’t happen, but they actually considered it lol.

So the Mavs have dysfunction too? Well, I guess we have that in common. But DON'T talk to me about being desperate for a title. Mavs got theirs with Dirk. Cowboys got theirs with Jimmy. We still waiting on Hawks and Falcons.
And I'm still not sure what the intent was in posting the OP?
Just that I have a link to the information going around and that there was actual talk inside the org. Or at least was told there was talk inside the org by a reliable source.
Then the Stans came for me.

naw, that's not at all where the backlash came from.
Simply put, the backlash came cause the guy said he had a source and then gave us literally nothing in terms of information. Just a cite to an "article" that also has nothing in it in terms of substance.
Has nothing to do with people getting in their feelings cause they like Trae. That makes us sound like little 12 year old fangirls.
Now the OP is crying cause no one liked his nonsense post. OP ought to man up and accept that his post sucked and either bring us some legit info or go back to wallflowering.
I live in Dallas. I write about the Cowboys. Will I share my source? No. Why? Learn journalism.
But you got mad. Be less soft or move it along.

Sometimes the truth hurts. Apparently, hearing the truth, posters took their anger out on you. People who hear a message shouldn't bother the messenger.
Yeah I’m sorry I had the info.
35 minutes ago, shakes said:no you didn't.
I did but you don’t want to hear it. That’s fine. Next time ignore it.

I really tried to give y’all some inside info I got and y’all came for my throat. Last time I do that.
I express my own opinions on Trae, and y’all come for throats.
Perhaps be better about discussion and less about attacking people you don’t agree with.
No sweat off my back.

I went back to your original post and I guess maybe clarification would help. What you thought was newsworthy was that the mavs are "looking to add Trae" but what in your mind does that mean?
All I know is inside the Mavs there has been talk of how possible a trade could be. Now, beyond that or the actual idea of what that trade could look like has not been something I’ve heard. But the talk about the Mavs has some real footing.
That all said I know this fanbase, and I know how desperate we are for a real shot at a title. But right now there is dysfunction, and the only thing we have is hope it gets figured out.

I never said how realistic it was, but that I have heard the same thing that’s being reported by people who cover the Mavs.
Im always hated on here for my Trae takes, that’s fine. I know most people have the belief he is the guy. If everyone agreed this would be a boring world.

You're doing it wrong, wr. Go make a thread. Or, better yet, tweet it and cite 'sources close to the Hawks organization'.
I'm about 20 miles from downtown. That counts as "close".
Don’t believe me that’s fine. I literally cover a Dallas team and talk to other writers and insiders.

Bro, it's best for you not to even if it your attention. Atlanta isn't trading Trae and they damn sure aren't giving him away either.
I know a ton of people think Trae is the dude. All I did was mention both an article and rumors I’ve heard here in Dallas with my side gig in covering one of the teams here.
I doubt it happens but it’s certainly out there and I did not start it.

Yeah the return is the question and a 3rd team is probable. But the rumors are out there, and this is not the first time I’ve heard it

Now the return is a whole other question, but there is rumors from some guys I write with they have heard. Could simply be talk. But it’s out there

So for those who don’t know I cover the Cowboys for FanSided. As such I get to talk to a lot of Dallas writers. There are in fact rumors Dallas is looking to add Trae to pair with Luka.
Imagine the irony.

Take over games consistently... CHECK...
If you can't see Trae consistently taking over games, there's not much left to be said. Sometimes, we build these strongholds and they block us from seeing the truth.
It’s shown by all the amazing success thus far. Maybe the 23rd most consistent player in the NBA last season, maybe he can repeat being too 10 in efficiency for the first time.
Again, maybe he’ll get there. You believe he is. We won’t agree on this.

It's really sad that you can't see "The Guy" in Trae... I mean what's he gotta do??
Last year, he led the league in Assists and Points. First time that that has been accomplished since 1975.
Think about it...
- Not Kidd
- Not Nash
- Not Stockton
- Not Lebron
- Not Dame
- Not Steph
- Not Harden
- Not Luka
- Not Ja
- Not Isaiah
- Not Magic
- Not Magic
- Not Magic
- Not Jordan
If you consider any of those the guy, then you're just being a hypocrite Noble.
Right now, he's 2nd in Assists and he's averaging 25.4 ppg...
What exactly is your requirement for being "The Guy" because obviously it has nothing to do with scoring and assisting...
Take over games consistently. Consistency is the key.
Now there are questions about his maturity as the leader of the team.
I know fans really want to believe in him, I’d love to see a title for this team. I’m not sure he can be the number one option for a team. He can be your number 2, and be a top flight 2 at that.
all about consistency though.
Hawks didn't make their lists!

I did say unstoppable on offense too, not just on both sides of the court. We haven’t had an unstoppable player since Nique. Maybe Dikembe on defense, but really having that guy on offense is a huge get. Now maybe if this team was all offense it would help with how mid at best they are on defense, but that’s not the case. I’d love to see us get a marquise player, those are hard to get, sure, but there’s way better than the players we’ve run through since we traded Nique for Manning. At least get close, ya know?
and I do blame the league for the product. I’m all for punishing players, not just front offices, for collusion.
