  1. Well that's easy.

If we only win 45-50 games, we aren't good enough to win a championship.

When's the last time an NBA team won 50 games or less and won the title?  I would imagine that the list is very small if there are any at all.

You are correct. Look, the Hawks are not gonna win a championship this coming season, so, really, it a waste of time even going back and forth over how many games they gonna win.

  2. Winning 45-50 games is piling on wins?

Cleveland is the only team in the East that can be confident against us in a 7 game series.

The Hawks will win 55+ again this year.

Do you want 45-50 wins and a championship, or do you want 60 wins and watching someone else celebrate. The Braves did the SAME thing for years, built for the regular season, and got ONE chip out of a run of being the best team in baseball for over a decade. I dont want the Hawks to do that.

Dont let Pop and his system fool you, they STILL had big time players in that system. I wonder WHY they went and got the best player available in free agency, and dumped Tiago Splitter on us.............

  3. Barring major injuries, they are winning 55 at a minimum.  This team and system was built for the regular season and they will excel in the regular season as long as they are mostly healthy.  It's why the Spurs are always in the top 2 or 3 in the standings in the West, even in years when they suffer injuries.  Our offensive system produces consistent easy shots which is a huge bonus in the regular season.

Which is WHY i said they gonna pile on meaningless wins. Build for the playoffs. Thats what cleveland did last year. They laughed at the Hawks for winning 60 games, because they knew when they met head to head in the playoffs, they had the matchup advantages. They made ADJUSTMENTS to their roster so that they could beat the Hawks. Bud stayed pat at the trade deadline.

I WILL say this though, it wouldnt shock me if the Hawks WERE to beat cleveland though, even though the matchups are still in cleveland's favor. The reason being, the Hawks are gonna try and OUTSCORE opponents. Maybe Hardaway and the others can make up for what Korver didnt do in the playoffs for the Hawks this past season.

  4. Hawks will win about 45-50 games. Even though they are better on paper, i dont see them running off another long winning streak like they did, which GOT them that 60 wins. I rather they concentrate more on the PLAYOFF makeup of the team, vs just piling on meaningless wins.

  5. I dont know about Splitter with Horford, but im pretty confident saying that if the Hawks had Noah with Horford, they couldve beat Cleveland in the playoffs.......I wouldve deployed a big lineup with Sap at 3, Carroll at the 2 with Noah and Horford up front. I know it wouldnt have never happened, but just on paper, man, what a lineup.......

  6. Warning I'm gonna be a little negative here and I know some will freak out but just hang in there.

Im not nor want to be a capoligist, I have a business to run.   But off the top of my head it is interesting about these bird rights that we dont seem to have.  Maybe Danny wasnt able to scure the years necessary with DMC or Sap, or maybe he didnt think it was worth it.   Splitter is a Bud guy through and through so hopefully we will get some good production from him, hes a vet with a championship so he knows how to play.

I guess I'm a little disappointed thaat our front office did not make the most of opportunities to put us in a position to get a better player that would maybe put us over the top.

I doubt anyone can compete with Cleveland in the east this year.   I'm not sure we got anybetter.

Lol. You KNOW this board. ANY discussion about the lack of the Hawks acquiring top tier talent is gonna be met with " the cap" . Funny thing is, the Hawks will do the SAME thing with cap room. Its not money, its the type of player they want on the team that is the motivating factor in who they acquire.

I played point guard in high school, and i KNOW what the Hawks are doing. In fact, i beat lots of teams who had superior talent, because i knew HOW to play the game. That works in high school and college ball. In the NBA, you have the BEST players in the world, and the margin between a team that is great at schemes, and a team that just beats you on raw talent is slim. Cleveland proved that in the playoffs. Miami proved it the whole time Lebron was down there.

On paper, this is a better team than last years team. The problem is everything is hinging on Tiago Splitter. He HAS to step up if the Hawks have any chance at beating Cleveland.

  7. Agreed.  SA has been developing young players for their role players and stars for years with picks from the middle to end of the first round.

So how are you acquiring these players with your assets and cap situation?  That is the key question.

Thats why Bud and Wilcox getting paid MILLIONS. THEY suppose to figure that out..........Pop over in San

Antonio figured it out, why cant Bud?????

  8. Name one they should have signed for either the money that they spent on Sap or Splitter and then we can talk.

I am thrilled the Hawks are developing a young big while they aren't rebuilding.  That is how you progress/maintain when you are competing.

Spent on Sap or Splitter? I have no problem with that. ADD TO SAP AND SPLITTER. Oh, my bad, they cant work the salary cap to add to the Sap and Splitter signings........

The Hawks couldnt have used the 10 points and 7 boards that Hibbert gave the pacers last year?

The Hawks couldnt have used the 10 points and 11 boards that Tyson Chandler gave the Mavericks last year?

The Hawks couldnt have used the  10 points and 7 boards that Robin Lopez gave Portland last year?

  9. Dirk will end this next season as the 6th all time leading scorer in NBA history....HISTORY!!! He is arguably the best European to play in the NBA in HISTORY!!!! He is the best perimeter scorer at 7 feet tall in HISTORY!!!! He has a championship ring.

How easily we forget the players of the past. It's sad.

  10. Still, no clear replacement for DeMarre at SF.

We have NO ONE who can guard LeBron who we know we must go through.

What is going on?  Trade in the works?  Slow-playing one more season to try to get someone more big time next offseason?

What is our projected starting 5 even?

This has always irritated me. You dont guard Lebron, you shut him down AT the rim. Lebron isnt a jump shooter, he is a slasher. To stop Dwight, you have players like Dwight Howard in the middle, and force him to KICK OUT. I could care less about him blowing by DMC or anybody else. My problem is his uncontested looks at the rim:

What in the world is Horford doing chasing Thompson waay out to the wing like that???? laughable.

  11. Did you just seriously write that? I'm gonna let others take this one...oh my

I dont need others to form my opinion. Melo scores more than Dirk, and i wouldnt take him either.  Dirk is a GREAT player, but not worth all that loot that dude said. In his prime, Scott, Mack, a first and a second, but not TWO firsts..........

  12.

The Hawks should make a power move to acquire Dirk.   My proposal is as follows:

    Mavs get:

    M. Scott

    W. Taveress

    S. Mack

    Minn.  1st round pick

Atl. 1st round pick and 2nd round pick

    Hawks get:

    D. Nitwozski

Man, i wouldnt have done that IN Dirk's prime, much less now. Thats waaay too much to give up for a one dimensional player. ALL Dirk can do is shoot the ball. THAT'S IT.......

  13. If there was ever a player that i criticized as much as i have Pero, it was Josh Smith. I wanted him gone after about 2 seasons. I understood, unlike Pero, WHY he was never dealt ( they was marketing him as a centerpiece of the Hawks), but i hated his game nonetheless.

Interesting thing though. By the time he ended up in Houston, Smith became EXACTLY what the Hawks needed out of him the whole time he was in Atlanta. Dude is rebounding. Dude is blocking shots. Nothing new there...............Dude is PASSING the ball..............

Smith was looking like Magic Johnson in the playoffs for Houston. He also was taking his 3 pointers more in the FLOW of the game, instead of stopping the Houston offense.

IF, but it would never happen, but for the sake of discussion.  IF Coach Bud were to bring him back at this stage of his career, it would be a good move...........

  14. This was a Budenholzer quote in an AJC article during the playoffs explaining Scott's lack of playing time:

His use of the phrase "either position" is vague...do you think he means 'A' or 'B' below?

    A:

    Backcourt - can play 1, 2, & 3

    Frontcourt - can play 4 & 5

    B:

    Guards: can play 1 & 2

    Wings: can play 2 & 3

    Bigs: can play 4 & 5

[Millsap is an obvious exception, so talent seems to trump system.].

yes. thats what he means............NOTHING is set in stone with positions the Hawks play. Thats why i say if they had top tier free agents in that system, the Hawks would become a dynasty.
