That's because they built a 20,000-seat arena on a footprint that was already tight when a 16,000-seat arena once stood there. And we've already heard chirps about the practice facility not being up to snuff, too?
Put Philips on the demo team's calendar, alongside Turner Field, the Georgia Dome, Panthersville, and the GSU Sports Arena (totally agree with Nathan regarding the latter two biting the big one after the Braves leave. You don't invest the kind of $$$ they did to add a few seats here and a scoreboard there; they probably have 360 or HOK on retainer as we speak...
When the Falcons wanted a new stadium, i always said the old General Motors plant up at sphagetti junction was the PERFECT location. Got transportation right there and a huge footprint. Too bad Doraville is on some highly political stuff.
The Hawks are in the same situation. Tear down Phillips, let the Falcons build there ( parking, extra team facilties, whatever) or Georgia State, then, build the Hawks a new arena over in Atlantic Station or up on Georgia 400. They DO need room to expand. Let them move to a bigger location.

I predicted this in the Aldridge thread. Ressler and Grant are investors FIRST. That means they are gonna invest in the infrastructure and hopefully, top tier free agents. I have no problem with it. I wouldnt mind them putting the arena up on Georgia 400 or even over in Atlantic Station if there is land they could purchase over there.... Georgia State could use that land where Phillips sits, just like the Turner Field Land. It could work for the better...

You know whats interesting? Ressler is a INVESTOR. He and Grant Hill. All their smiles and " oh chucks" aside, during that press conference, the word investment was thrown around plenty of times by both of them. That MEANS, they want a RETURN. How do you get a return in team professional sports? One of two ways OR both:
1. Invest in and own the team infrastructure: team facilities, arena, stadium, etc.
2. Bring in TOP free agents.
Soo, Ressler and Grant, in order to transform the Hawks from a $750 million dollar team, to a 1.5 to 2 billion dollar team, KNOW they got to invest. I heard Grant say it today. That means TOP FREE AGENTS.........No way around it, penny pinching is not gonna increase the value of this franchise........
A lot of people hated Michael Vick, but Arthur Blank LOVED him and still does. Before Vick, the falcons had one of the lower values in the NFL. After Vick, the value took off. The Hawks need a SUPERSTAR or SUPERSTARS to market to increase their value......
Welp, that didnt take long.........I was right, they working on the value of this franchise already............

Plus, Atlanta is the new Hollywood. All it takes is for the FIRST big time free agent to sign with the Hawks, and the rest is a wrap.....

You know one of those gut feelings. Something could go down during draft. Have no clue what that might be but got a funny feeling Bud and the new owner might make waves.
Pero Antić, Mack and the #15 for philly's pick at #3...................

shout out to Shane Morgan on the team fb page.. lol Someone mentioned aliens before.. lol
You cant make this stuff up. These must be the flared sleeve uniforms that Hawks brass ran by Kyle Korver in this article..........LMAO
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13140797/the-story-atlanta-hawks-new-uniforms
Sorckoff recalls a conversation with Hawks forward Kyle Korver about an early prototype that tested flared sleeves.

There is more truth in this statement than anything I've read so far today. You don't make omelets without cracking some eggs and you're not pulling in the guys needed to get you over the hump by pinching pennies. The days of looking in Walmart's DVD bin for $2 movies to watch should've been over the instant after Tony Ressler's check cleared his bank account. I don't want to hear anything about the cap or luxury tax affecting them as far as going after whoever is needed to bring home the big belt...and no one else here on this board probably doesn't, either...

Ron Artest was insane but he played hard ... he gave 100% ... he actually put his heart on his sleeve ... he played d and could play bigger then him. He actually fit well with teams and played a role.
opposite of Monta
The POINT is a organization turned around what was once a disruptive player......Why cant the Hawks do the same with a player like Ellis?????? You think Jerry Jones is happy with the way Dez Bryant carries on??? Nope, but Jerry wants another championship.................
-
Monta puts up stats but he is not a winner
-
What's Monta done to be the best - get traded from GSW, Milwaukee and now Dallas---oookay.
How many championships has Kevin Durant won?????????
-
You can show all the offensive videos you want still doesn't negate the fact that he is a problem child who wants too much money.
Sources said Ellis was genuinely uncomfortable with the three-year, $46 million free agent contract the Mavs signed Parsons to last summer. And that was one of the reasons why Ellis decided Wednesday to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Mavs. Ellis wanted Chandler Parsons money.
And thats WHY the Hawks trophy case is STILL empty......
Big boy organizations just WIN. new england patroits, dallas cowboys, the lakers signing trouble man " metta world", etc. those organizations have CHIPS because they know that you have to get the best, to be the best..........If Atlanta cant bring a Ellis into the fold and Coach him up into doing right, then just maybe the Hawks organization isnt up to snuff with organizations that CAN get the best out of players, like the ones i just mentioned.......The falcons have that SAME thing going on with them, and its produced the same thing as the Hawks............
-
There is a reason the Bucks and Mavs just let Monta walk.
He is a TERRIBLE fit here. Putting up stats doesn't make you a good player
How many championships have the Hawks won WITH players who have fit????????

More of what the Hawks couldve used in their half court capoots in the playoffs:
-
But why would they make a trade? He's a UFA - just sign him. If he knows the plan is to send him a back to Utah, why would he sign with the Hawks? (Can they pay him more?) Sorry if this is dumb question time. I'd get it if he was a RFA.
lol, How does this make any sense for them? Favors is just starting to round into form and was already, at 23, just as productive as Millsap last season. They let Millsap walk two years ago for nothing, when they could have kept him for a modest contract and now they want to pay him 18 million at the age of 30? That team is still a couple of years from being a contender anyway, so why trade youth for experience at this stage?
Maybe they wanna sign and sucker trade the Hawks into it........
-
^^^This. This franchise always seems to be hamstrung by $$$ even without the superstars. What gives???
Exactly. SAYING you wanna win is nothing. Put up the money like Ted Turner used to do with the Braves, or its all TALK.......
-
"stop......yall had your opportunity "

I guess their owners don't care about the Tax.
Whatever it is, the Hawks better start doing it if they serious about a championship.......

Not sure if we'll be able to afford both LMA and DMC unless the new owners are willing to pay the Luxury Tax.
Why is it that the NBA/CAVALIERS NBA/HEAT NBA/THUNDER NBA/CLIPPERS etc, etc. can always mysteriously fit everything under the cap???????? lmao
-
Koonin is as important to keep around as Bud. Glad they are all staying

The Hawks have sellout crowds now, just won 60 games/went to ECFs, have 4 All-Stars and COY, are in a top 5 NBA tv market, are right around the corner from TNT and NBATV, Sara Blakely is an ATLien, and Silver said they're not relocating. They're staying...
Which is WHY ive always been shocked that the NBA hasnt rigged the Hawks into a title like they have some other franchises..........

I like Sap, but they need help on the boards:

pf Horford
sf Carroll
sg Korver
pg Teague

How much Pero making?????????
