This deal obviously is not happening with the KK trade that was just annouced but i thought i would share so everyone could get a good laugh at how silly some of these trade rumors are getting.   This deal is beyond being terrible.

  2. The flagrant 2 was total BS.   That was barley even a 1 in. My opinion there was no Malicious intent and if the elbow had landed anywhere but the chin it would have a personal at the most.    Way to many ticky tack calls early.   It almost seemed like the refs felt like they had called too many early fouls on Charlotte early in the fourth and as soon as they realized the home team was in the penalty they just swallowed their whistles.

I would really be more upset if the Hawks hadn't been so bad on three pointers.   We were retched beyond the arc and if only two or three of our treys had dropped the zebras bad calls wouldn't have made any difference.   The Hornets also hit some desperation threes that just broke out back.

I can't wait to get another shot at that team especially with Thabo back to help the defense.

    http://www.chattsportsnet.com/sports-today/nba/atlanta-hawks-roster-2016-paul-millsap-trade-for-lamarcus-aldridge-possible/19080/

This has to considered a total rumor at this point and I have no idea about the sites credibilty but it's interesting.   Would Aldridge be a better option for us than Sap.   I could see the Hawks worried about retaining Sap next year and Aldridge is younger and under contract longer.     The Hawks and Spurs have been trade partners in the past and definitely have a lot of front office connections

i just don't know if Aldridge can do the same things Sap does for us.   We would be a really different offensive team with a more of a two tower inside low post focus when the whole league is going the other way.

Assuming this has an credibility (I have zero confidence it does) would you  do this deal and do you think it would be a move that would improve the team and make us a stronger contender to win the East?

  4. I think the Hawks need to try out starting THJr and moving Kyle to the bench and when Thabo is back and healthy experiment with Baze at the two and starting Thabo.   Prince is showing he can be a good back up at SF.   Kyle can't move without the ball like he used to and not having Horford has had and effect on Kyle getting the catch and shoot passes because the ball is moving inside out more than just around the perimeter.

At this point I think Kyle may be a Steve Kerr type player that just comes in for scenarios where you go small and want as many deep threats as possible.   THJr has been a better defender this year can do more with the ball in his hand and is shooting better.

@ThomasCredle  You'll need to add someone like Mike Scott's salary to make the numbers work.

I wouldn't mind throwing in Scott to make that deal work especially with the way Moose is playing this year.  Are Scott's legal issues cleared up where the Warriors would want him

  6. If the Warriors are looking at their salary position they may determine they can't keep Curry, Draymond, Durant & Klay.   They are depleted on the bench.   No clue if the trade works under the CBA but they might be interested in Tiago to give depth at center, Korver to replace some of Klay's outside shooting, and some picks to get lower priced players.    They would get some benefit from that trade in financial flexibility, better depth at center, and the chance to go find another Klay or Draymond in the draft.

I think Thompson would be a nice fit here in the system and he wouldn't have to be the "man" with Sap and our balanced scoring...

Again this idea only works if the Warriors don't think they can keep all four and Klay is the piece they value least.

i also think another team could put together a better deal though.

  7. It's still really early but I'm pretty excited that my optimistic hopes that THJr would emerge as a breakout player has so far looked correct.   The improved rebounding has been there and Thabo is showing he is a legit 6th man candidate.   Howard has embraced his role and seems happy.   Delaney is also looking like the player I hoped for in my wildest dreams.

Can't say I predicted Moose producing like he has but the Hawks have been everything I thought they might be.

i was worried about the turn overs and that is proving to be a valid concern but hopefully Dennis adjusts to the role.

What has been the biggest surprise so far to other folks this year so far.

I've got to go with how good the 2nd team has been and Mooses play myself.

Now I can't wait to see how the team plays against better competition down the road.

  8. Only one game so nothing you can really make a prediction from but I liked what I saw.   I had hoped THjr would be a breakout player in his second season in our system and he broke out for one game.   Dwight made a huge difference on the boards and changing shots and defending the rim.  The bench played great.   Our deep shot was there and Milsap was his usual all around great player.  Based on one game most of my optimistic hopes for the season happened.  Dennis has to calm down and limit turnovers but all said after one game I pretty happy.   The next three games look easily winnable.   Hopefully the Hawks start hot and this team is everything I hoped for this season.  Again only one game but I liked what I saw tonight.

He'll fill some seats which is a difference... Basketball-wise, if he just rebound the ball for us, we'll be a different team. When it comes to Howard, rebounds and D is all I care about.

I would love to see some power moves and throw downs following the extra offensive boards he brings as well.

I also completely agree that he will fill some seats in "fair weather Atlanta".  It's my home tow and I love the city but it's full of transplants and casual fans that will pay for a ticket just because we finally have a "big name" player they have seen on Sports Center.   If they Hawks start hot and win a bunch of their early games those fans will keep buying tickets and maybe the Hawks finally get the home court advantage their play over the past few seasons has warranted.

Of course if they start slow ESPN and the rest of the national media are dogging the Howard for Horford swap that could empty the arena out real quick!

  10. Buds system is complex and the players always mentioned as breaking out in it, Demarre and Bazemore, both really emerged in their second year playing in it.

I think we will see some flashes this year and have some "fall in love" moments from his athleticism.  We will also have some groan inducing dismay when he makes a bad defensive read or gets lost on offense.

Next year I definitely can see lots of stories about him being a breakout second year player.

Like Grey Mule said I think being pushed by Bembry in practice for game minutes will help both of them as well.

  11. I think it's fairly unanimous that Dwight is not as athletic as in his Orlando heyday.  Can he adjust his game to what his strengths are now?

I am very curious to see if his offensive numbers come back up this year.  He played with the two of the games premier ball hogs in Kobe and especially Harden.   He won't have that issue in Atlanta and will play in a coherent system with unselfish teammates and a team dynamic totally the opposite of his last two teams.

If Bud puts a system in place that keeps Dwight more engaged on offense he may surprise some people.   His D has always been better when he feels the love on offense.   We have the shooters to give him space on the block and he has never played with a PF close to the quality of Milsap.

I may be wrong but I think Dwight will be a surprise and make a big impact this year.   Hell if nothing else he should make an impact by not being thrown around by Tristan Thompson on the boards.

I hope D8 shows he can still be a force and shuts a lot of critics with a return to All-Star play this year.

Making a trade involving Splitter is saying Big Walter is ready and I don't know if he is ...

I thought the same thing we would be really light at the 5 and would have to have a lot of faith in Dwight playing huge minutes if we make that deal.

Gay would give us some scoring from the three and move Baze to start at the 2 with Kyle off the bench.

I have to admit I've not watched Gay play much would he be a good fit in our system and can be pass the ball well?

moving two players for 1 would also clear up some of the roster overload we have

  13. If another thread about this has been started please move it didn't see any when I looked.

Does anyone think there is any validity to this monster 4 team trade with us giving up Tiago, Minny draft pick, and THjr.  to get Rudy Gay in this monster 4 team trade.   Seemed far fetched to me with too many moving parts and I know nothing about either of those sites at all.

if this deal is actually (doubt it) being considered what do people think about Rudy Gay at the 3 and is that too much to give up to get him?

A lot of people I talk to say the same thing about great defense not being as important anymore. My thing is we can not look at stats from the champs on a year to year basis. Those stats are built off of teams that have Lebron James and Steph Curry and a bunch of top-tier players that we simply do not have.  We also cannot get caught up in our own rankings. Yes we had a great and underrated defense last year. Same goes for the year before. Matter of fact Ive always been pushing the narrative that our BEST stretches of basketball under Bud have come when we locked in defensively. Jumpshots come and go, but when we are attacking on defense we become a thing of beauty.

What I'm suggesting isn't that we just maintain that same mindset of "lets play good defense". I'm suggesting that we embrace the truth that we can be a dominating defensive team. A team whose defense will be #1 this year and one of top 2 or 3 defenses since the 2004 Pistons. I'm speaking of an all-time defense, an Identity, one that teams will have to fear playing against,

Now, that may sound lofty and idealistic to many of you but that is the potential that we have. We only have to embrace that identity. Just like Dwight saying his goal is to win a championship for Atlanta. To become a champ in the pros you cant depend on luck. You have to have some facet about you that is dominating. Most of the Champs have a player or 2 or 3 that can flat out dominate. WE DONT. I mean, maybe Dwight can return to his old self and be the  best big man in the game again, or maybe not. But we cant bank on 1 player like other contenders can.... so how can we dominate? Take the one thing we have been consistently good at, and make it better.

As for the 2nd bolded part, that is very true. Which is why I believe owning a dominating mentality is vital for THIS Hawks roster. We have been the quiet good guys for too long. Its time to make people take notice of us. Bring the intensity. No more sleepwalking thru entire quarters hoping the bench can bail us out. No more crying to refs because the stars get away with murder and we cant even sneeze their way without it being a foul. No more of it. Its time to start flexing some muscle, its time to make some people uncomfortable. Its time to make stars say, "I hate playing against the Atlanta Hawks" why? "Because they bring it every game, and keep bringing it. They just keep coming at you"

That's the kind of squad that we are deep down. That's the kind of squad that can beat a super team without a super star (no disrespect to Dwight).  Attitude is an identity. There's no need to be afraid of the increase in intensity when youre the most intense team every game anyway. Let us stop trying to imitate this team or that team and just be the best versions of ourselves and watch the league struggle to figure us out. We did it before, won 60 games. Lets evolve our mindset even further now, think outside of that 60-win box and in to a much larger box that includes an NBA title and a lot of hurt feeling along the way.

I agree that the ceiling for this team will be largely determined by their mindset and playing style.   I think with Dwight and Dennis playing a more aggressive style than Horford and Teague who could both get really passive at times this team will potentially be very aggressive on both ends.

We need another dependable three point shooter to emerge as well.   If THjr improves in year two like some other players have and Delaney shoots like he did in Euro league we could be a solid three point shooting team especially if Dwight demands attention in post.

if one of the rookies emerges and can be a starting 3 by the playoffs and Baze can play the 2 we are deep.   I could see ECF for sure.

if we don't get growth from our rookies and THjr and run Baze and Korver huge minutes or no chemistry between Dwight and Dennis emerges I think we are probably a tough out in round 1 and beaten soundly in the second round.

SG - Baze (Best two way option at SG)

SF - Prince (Can't teach size and I like his 3 and D skillset)

Korver can sub out with Baze and Thabo can sub out with Prince.

Hardaway better step up this year or Bremby going to take his spot eventually.

I'm hopping for a big jump for TH2 this year he showed flashes after the all star break last year and apparently had a groin injury late in the year and playoffs.  I know how bad those hurt from personal experience it makes it painful to do everything .  I pulled my groin wrestling and it ruined a whole season never healed until I stopped doing anything for weeks.

I think he understands the system now and will play much faster and more fluid which should help his shot and increase confidence.

if he does Baze can take the three spot and Thabo can be a stopper and defensive specialist.

i think Thabo may start at the three to start the year with Baze at the two.   I really at his age Kyle needs to be a sixth man.

I really want prince to emerge and take Thabo's job at the three by the all star break though and hopefully Bembry is ready to  give some quality minutes too

if prince is ready fast a second unit of Jack/Delaney, TH2, Thabo/Bembry, Hump and Tiago is strong and we crazy flexibility.

  16. If Shaq can make D8 an aggressive beast in the paint again I want him to have weekly sessions with diesel but I didn't hear the podcast.   Harden annoys me so I would actually think D8 punching his bearded ass would be funny and maybe worth an early season suspension lol

it would definitely set a tone for the new team on not backing down and getting tough with other teams

Those are the stories I saw.  Like I said they are all pretty much speculation and I didn't read anything I thought was really something to get excited about.   That was why I was wondering if anyone else had seen or read something with more teeth that might be real possibility not just click bait from a site or author

If he was available to us, I think we would have to get an agreement of some kind that he would sign with us next year. If we did, I'd send Dennis and picks or whatever it took.

I'm with you on it.  If he agrees to resign and we have his bird rights (I am no capologist by any stretch). I think we pay the price to get a real super star in his prime.

If Bud is a great coach he will find a way to make a player like that work.  Having a talent like that might even get Sap to take a shorter deal if he thinks he will win a title and not destroy our cap flexibility.

My only concern is do we create Kobe - Harden 3 here and Dwight doesn't like playing with another ball dominat guard.   Maybe he is ready to just want to win but history makes me leary of that.

Even with that he would he he best player in the ATL since Nique was flying around the Omni!

  19. I know there used to be a trade specific board but didn't see it anymore on a mobile browser.  Admin please move if this should be there.

I saw several sites talking about Westbroom and the Hawks as a good fit and possible trade partners.   Usually involved Dennis and some 1st round picks.

Has anyone else seen anything more than pure speculation on this and what do other folks think about the possibility.   Would he resign here and if so what would you be willing to give up for him.

Also would his ball dominant style work with our coaches philosophy and approach to the game.

A top 5 player (arguably) would be huge but I'm curious if we could keep him and how much it would cost us and if the price would be too high to risk.

    what do other folks think?
