For the Falcons it is especially complicated because the guy they drafted has already suffered 4 season ending injuries and is already 24 years old and projects to be sitting for two years (26 is very old for a first time starter).  There is also some whiplash after fans were basically told "we're ready to contend right now!" after Cousins was signed and then they see the top pick being someone who won't play for at least 2 years if things go according to plan.

Disagree slightly cause what does contending imply? We were never thought to be in the SuperBowl race from anyone.

Signing Kirk feels like ownership wanted people to keep buying season tickets and tuning in because Falcons would at least be back in the playoffs.

If we cut Kirk after 2 years, it means he played well but couldn't lead us to the promise land as expected and now it's time for Penix to try.

If we retain Kirk, it means we went significantly further in the playoffs than we would've thought

If we start Penix earlier, it means Kirk is declining and it's good we have Penix in the wings.

Kirks salary feels appropriate for a top 10 QB, and Penix being 26 when starting is kinda of irrelevant. If Penix is the truth, we'll have 10 years of good QB play with Penix at the helm and no one will care that he started at 26.

Also, Penix's injuries were many years ago and he's been healthy ever since his last big one - doesn't mean he wont hurt himself, but shows we can feel at least a lil confident in his health moving forward.

Overall Falcons are finally not gonna be 💩 and we'll have fun making the playoffs for a couple years till Penix takes over and gets us our chip. Dont think we're winning one with Kirk right now, even if we drafted defense/wr with our 8th pick.

4, 8 and all our picks back for

All these picks back just to be in a situation worse than we're currently in, with no guarantee of being in a better spot.

How many more drafts are we going to go through hoping to find a star?

Our next conversations immediately will turn into how do we consolidate picks/players to get a player of Trae's caliber onto this team, it makes 0 sense to me.

Trading Trae gets us in a position where we're worse than mediocre, and we try our best to get back on the .500 treadmill, I just don't get it.

I wanna see the Hawks WIN and ownership making moves to achieve anything else is gross.

I want to go on record as saying I am absolutely not team "trade Trae."  I am excited AF because we're going to draft the only player that I have evaluated in this draft and thought that we had zero chance of getting him.  While at the same time, we're at least having conversations about THE one player who has been at the top of my wish list for years now.

I'm just a little, more than a little, confused that we've made some Hawks history and our franchise player - who make no mistake has something to say about a lot of things - has said nothing about our lottery luck.  This is the same guy who literally just offered unsolicited opinions about a previous #1 pick who will likely never suit up for ATL.  I don't know what it means, but it is very curious to say the least.

He also just tweeted late yesterday, well after the lottery results came in...so it's not like he's AFK.  Just saying...it's kinda weird for me.

Probably because things are uncertain from his POV. Doesn't make sense for him to celebrate an event that might be the stimuli for his departure from ATL when he hasn't heard from the FO about their plans for the future.

I would hope our GM and owner quickly and definitively decide on the direction they want to go with this franchise, which I hope is building a championship contender around Trae and they let him know that asap.

But we'll see, gonna be an annoying 6 weeks till the draft if drama is our main dish and not excitement for our potential #1 overall pick

Both agreed the Trae/DJ days are over

Was a "fun" experiment letting nepo baby call some shots based on his 2k experience, but hopefully these past couple of years will push Ressler to get non-basketball-minded voices out of the room and let a singular person at the top call the shots🙏🏽

Hope you feel better soon Soth💪🏽

I believe the disconnect here would be i consider Trae on those guys level as a 1b star / player and not a 1a super star.   Which i can understand their are other hawk fans that don't think anything like that and consider Trae a superstar type of player.  I don't agree with them on that but i respect their opinion 🙂

Sure, but kinda easy for everyone to see Trae is future HoF and Brown/Ingram probably aren't. Need an elite return for an elite player

    1. Expectations of winning due to having a roof raiser is extremely difficult without the right personnel. He really shouldn't have expectations of winning with this team right now.

    2. He doesn't have a plug in play personnel, the only positive is they were all drafted from a PDS stance outside of Hunter.

    3. He's a genius system coach but to win with Trae, you have to bend any system significantly. That's an adjustment for Quin or any coach. I think that takes time. A lot more time than people think.

    4. Hawks haven't had a significant draft pick spot in awhile. I consider those top 10 picks. Give Atlanta a chance to get one or two.

    5. As #1 , expectations without the right personnel is hard. People only have expectations because of Trae just like they did with Chicago with MJ. You got to remember, MJ never won a playoff series and had 4 top 10 picks. Since Trae, we only had 3.

    Those players were

    Oakley - Hunter type

    Grant - OO type

    Sellers - Cam bust type

Pippen - we still ain't got a Pippen yet and technically we don't got a MJ either but offensively, Trae is insane offensive as was MJ. Defensively, just a day and 🌙 difference.

Cheap meddling owner with an inexperienced front office also contributing to Quins challenge

    Updates:

Other teams jumped in on the 15th. We have a framework for a trade in place, just depends on the other team willing to pay the price for Murray.

Other teams jumped in on Murray as well as other players. I do not think hawks fans will love the return on the players I'm hearing the most about being moved (DJM, Capela, Hunter)  because it definitely sounds like first rounders and not actual real talent is coming back in trades. More like expiring contracts tied to first round picks.

Late pushes include Detroit, Knicks, Nets, Kings and two teams not allowed to name in public.

If we're getting picks back, I hope it's because we have plans to flip them for productive players. We need some vets on this team :search:

If Dj is not demanding a trade, we shouldn't trade him.

We need to find another star to go with Trae, DJ, and JJ.

DJ is our best asset to swing a trade for a star that fits better on the team. Agree we should keep DJ with most of these trash trades that have been offered, but if there's a DJ for KAT or DJ for multiple role players/starters that fit (Murphy, Herb) , I think it helps the Hawks to go for those.

So the Spurs would not only return our picks, but add a good young player too? Don't be that guy, come on. Suggest plausible trades.

Minus picks + young players whatever, the framework is there to get a deal done that's better than what the Knicks have to offer - don't get hung up on details

We had a deal, the same deal @Mikey had some information on as well, close to go on the first day DJ was allowed to be traded.

Then other offers came in. Teams are doing what the Hawks really need: bidding against each other for DJ and other players.

I still believe DJ will be traded before the deadline. It will just be a matter of choosing which offer to go with.

Beating a Knicks Quentin Grimes offer has to be the easiest thing in the world fr

Spurs, give us our picks back + KJ or Devin

Pels, give us Murphy and a first

Lakers, .... Ad?.... Maybe not the lakers

Orlando, Anthony Black and a couple of firsts

ANYTHING else would be better than bench player Grimes and bad knick picks x.x

I don't feel great about the state of the team moving forward. I'm tired of our team always being on the outside looking in.

I'll say we at least have the foundations of being a good team.

    •  Trae is an all NBA level talent who has proven he can take us to the playoffs and win games
    •  Quin is a proven high level coach
    •  Jalen is a rare player archetype that we get to develop and grow alongside Trae

Of course we'd like to be more stable and have clear vision for the future, but at least we know for a fact that

    •  Trae wants to win a chip in ATL
    •  Nick and Tony want to keep their cash cow happy
    •  Landry is going to make moves that hopefully creep us towards winning a championship

We're in a new era of the NBA where pretty much any team has a good chance of winning vs the same few super teams always at the top. We have key pieces of the puzzle, and motivation to fill out the rest.

Whatever return Murray gets us, we'll be on the path towards filling the roster out with players Quin can work with and get us competing at the level we expect.

All in all, at least we ain't the Pistons 🙏🏽

it's called having a working set of eyes.

So what happens if someone else with a working set of eyes disagrees? Are both folks wrong? Or is that not enough evidence to make conclusive statements about anything?

I mean, I get enjoying that drama from the stories we create in our heads, but trying to present all that as if it's grounded in objective reality is funny

Would love to get Lauri, but I feel like any deal we make with Danny Ainge is gonna end with us looking like fools getting fleeced 😕

But honestly though f*** it, would rather start swinging for the fences and have a chance to be winning. Sooooo tired of the <= .500 experience.

the proof is in the pudding.    even Lowe mentions it in the article.  Watching 2 guys do all the work, watching your so called leader just stand around, watching your star player continually choose to stand around behind the play yelling at refs rather than play defense...these are all things that can suck the life out of the rest of the team.   And the first thing to go when that happens is effort.  And defense is 90% effort.

    1+1 = 2

lol, so you got nothing but speculation - cool

    MAJOR impact on the

What proof do you have that Trae's off-ball tendencies have any effect on the locker room?

Again, no player in the world just runs around randomly - off-ball offense takes a team effort starting with the coach implementing those plays which we HAVE seen a lot more of since Quin's tenure began.
