  1. You guys realize we do have 14 roster spots right? 1) Zaza Pachulia 2) Jason Collier 3) Al Harrington 4) Marvin Williams 5) Josh Smith 6) Donta Smith 7) Josh Childress 8) Tony Delk 9) Joe Johnson 10) Salim Stoudamire 11) Royal Ivey 12) Lue??? 13) ??? 14) ??? Am I missing anyone??? It looks like we need to fill two spots. Simmons and Johnson would be the last 2 spots maybe. Why would we need to ship Donta or Royal to the NBDL? Then cut Arthur Johnson??? That means the Hawks will need to sign 4 more players, and 5 counting Lue. Arthur Johnson should make this team, and be in the rotation from day 1. Backing up the 4.
  2. Not sure how many of you got a chance to see some of the Summer League Games, but Arthur Johnson can play. I haven't seen him signed yet, but I haven't seen Stoudamire either. This guy is 6'9" just like JSmooth, but 30 lbs heavier. He fills the paint up nicely. Rebounds well, can score, and shows a tougness inside the paint. He's like 23 or 24 years old. So there is upside to this guy. He is a no brainer (IMO) for backing up Al at the 4. He can be the 3rd Center, behind ZaZa and Collier. As for Marv backing up the 4 spot or even the 3. No time soon. He's not ready to be in the rotation yet. He's got a ways to go, before he sees significant minutes. In our first 15 to 20 games, don't be surprise if a game or two goes by, where he doesn't even get in the game. Remember, even JChill and JSmooth sat out entire games last year. Expect the same with Marv too. I'm not saying leave guys like Curry and Chandler alone. Obviously they would be great, but Arthur Johnson is very close to some of these names you guys are mentioning. He deserves a chance, and I hope he gets one. For argument sake, let's say JJ completely fails at the point. That wouldn't effect Childress in no way. This guy is better than last year. Again, I saw this in summer ball. I realize the talent isn't as good, but I take that into account when I watch these guys. Childress (without considering JJ), is our best all around player!!! He still has the ugly looking jump shot, but that's all that is ugly in his game right now. He will show this year, that he is truly a good all around player. Don't be surprise to see him with a triple double or two this year. He's that well rounded right now. If Salim struggles with his shot early, and you see him missing 3's that are taken 5 feet behind the 3 point line. DON'T GET MAD! He can make that shot. His range is unbelievable. He will fully be in the rotation, and might even play out the last 5 minutes of games. His scoring ability is going to have him on the court a lot. If Lue resigns, and Royal looking descent like last year. Point guard will be fine. If Lue doesn't resign. That gives Woodson an excuse for having Stoudamire out there more, and I will be comfortable with Royal being our number 2 guy on the depth chart for PG. If you never watched basketball before, and I told you that Salim and Marv were our two top draft choices. And if you had to figure out which guy got taken first. When this season gets underway. I bet your guess would be for Stoudamire. He's going to make an impact first year, where as Marv will take time. OK.....that's my 2 cents. Just didn't see any of ya'll mentioning Arthur Johnson, and I think he's our back up 4 right now, unless something happen to him that I'm not aware of. Starting Lineup: PG Joe Johnson/Lue?/Royal Ivey SG Josh Childress/Tony Delk SF Josh Smith/Donta Smith PF Al Harrington/Arthur Johnson C Zaza Pachulia/ Jason Collier 6th Man: Salim Stoudamire (will find some way to get out there, should lead us in minutes off the bench, unless he works his way into the starting line up...which isn't totally out of the question)
  3. I just joinned a fantasy football league over at Yahoo. I was the 3rd team that signed up. They need 10 to have the live draft on Thursday Morning. The league is published, so it should fill up by the draft time. They have defensive players, and you get a point for every 5 yards rushing or receiving. So should be some high scores from week to week. Hope to see you there! 4. I'll try it too. Good Luck All! owlholler@hotmail.com
  5. Well if this is correct, and they both buy out equal shares of Belkin's Part. That means Atlanta would own 45 percent, and Wahington would own 55 percent. Michael Gerron Jr might be the governor (Atlanta), but Washington would own the majority with a 51+ percent of the teams. So not saying it would happen, but it does leave the future in question. Washington Nationals proved that the area could hold another baseball team. With the Wizzards in DC, could it be possible that we would have a Baltimore Hawks???
  6. Get them votes in for Smith. His dunk over Kenyon Martin needs to win this contest. I'm afraid peeps will vote on DWade cause he is the better player right now. http://www.nba.com/inside_stuff/rewind2005...i.html?rss=true Here is the bracket: http://www.nba.com/inside_stuff/rewind2005_index.html Can't vote until August 19th.
  7. This is ridiculous. We worked so hard to get him, now they want to back out of it? I knew we couldn't trust Knight. After all this man traded Gary Payton, Rasheed Wallace, Shariff Abdur Rahim, Jason Terry, and Stephen Jackson for Al Harrington and a Lakers/Boston 1st round draft pick. I guess the Braves have their tomahawk chant. Our chant is going to be JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! Cause we heading straight for the Jerry Springer Show.
  8. Quote: The jazz said that the trade rumors were flat out false, and that boozer is in better shape than he's ever been, and is motivated. I don't think he's going anywhere. Even if they thought they'd overpaid, they'd at least let him have an awesome season this year before shipping him, so they can get fair value. I see the jazz having an AWESOME season this year. I think they'll be the big surprise. Deron williams, a motivated boozer, and hopefully a healthy AK? Could be awesome Right. However, it seems like that Kevin O'Connor and Larry Miller are not on the same page. After they denied it, the story came back with 2 out of 3 GM's saying that there was some truth to it. Atlanta was just 1 of 3 teams that was mentioned in the rumor.
  9. Anyone think that Utah will trade Carlos Boozer? Atlanta was one of the teams mentioned in the rumor, for Harrington. It is said that Boozer wants out of Utah. INDIVIDUAL GAME TICKETS..........does anyone know what is the first day the individual game tickets will go on sale?
  10. Tip......I do agree with you, but in a different fashion. I think the trade is fair. When I first saw it, I didn't like it either. 2 number 1 draft picks was scary. I think most Hawk Fans took notice at that. When you broke it down, it really wasn't that bad. With a top 14 protection for next year, and a top 3 protection the year after. Then the other pick not being ours. Is Belkin the scapegoat? Is he getting too much of the blame? Absolutely! After all, he told the other owners more than once, he didn't like the deal. It was the other owners, BK, or both that gave Phoenix the nod, while the man with the signature that counted was against it. It's the other owners that made this thing get national media attention. Not Belkin. As for Belkin and the payroll. I think people are getting confused over that. Belkin wanted to build this team at a slower rate, which I agree with. Let the young guys/draft picks get us in the playoffs first, or close to it. No reason to use a lot of that capspace right now. It's not like we are 1 to 2 pieces away from winning the NBA Title. The Thrashers have been very patient by letting their new guys develop, and this is really the first year they made a splash in the FA Department. I do like JJ a lot. He's a player I like. So I don't mind them going after him. I like the trade. I'm also looking at the big picture, and don't want FA Signings making our record too good right now. Where we would have a double digit draft number. How many "Belkin Supporters" would we have, if we were trying to trade Josh Smith for Howard Eisley. The other owners and BK felt we really needed a PG, and was willing to overpay to get one. Then Belkin steps in to block it. He would then be known as a savior, than the bad guy. It's ok right now, if no big time free agents want to come here. We don't want them yet. Let the young guys keep playing so they get max PT. Let us a add another player or 2 from the draft. I also disagree that we haven't had no big time free agents recently. Stephen Jackson has similar abilities to JJ. He just won a championship with the Spurs, and wanted to come to Atlanta the next year. Can't remember if we signed him as a FA or it was a sign and trade. However, it was basically him wanting to come to Atlanta. He was the 4th piece on a team that might have been a piece or two away from competing in the Eastern Confernce (SAR, Theo, JT, and Jackson). These guys never really got to play as a unit, to see what they could do. Stephen had a great season last year. Also, JT was a major player for the Mavs in the playoffs last year. I think the owners should be blamed more as a whole, than for all of them to just point the finger at Belkin. I don't consider myself a Belkin Supporter. I consider me as a Hawks Supporter, and I thought the owners as a whole made this mess, by agreeing to soon with the Suns. Remember all these guys agreed at one time to buy the 2 Atlanta Teams. They are still in their baby stages, and having these type of problems. It's not Belkin's fault anymore that it is the rest of the owners.
