  1. It would be 10 mil per year for 4 more years ... that's still 40 million dollars he'd be paying to watch Joe play somewhere else. I don't care who the owner is, not even Paul Allen would be ok with that.

If that 10 million frees up cap to get the personnel which fills up Philips, contends to a championship, brings in additional revenues never seen before (merchandise, sponserships and such), that 10 million is seed money not a hinderence.

  2. Yes.. Dwight Holds the cards... So do you think he'd go to NJ without a SNT just because he could without first considering a SNT? Remember, we're his hometown. Do you really think a good Christian Man like Dwight (who doesnt want his baby's mama to mention his name on the show she's on and sues her for lots of money every time she whispers the #12) would want the image of him being Selfish??? Has no love for Atlanta. Unlike Lebron, he can't say he's from Athens. He's was raised in Swainsboro and ATLANTA. He went to SW Atlanta Christian High School. His daddy was a State Trooper, his mama played for Morris Brown College. Do you think he wants to be the villain that killed Atlanta Basketball? He grew up loving the Hawks. I think if he is going to leave, he would try to work out a SNT.. plus it puts more money in the nets coffers.

Raised in Atlanta, dad is from Swainsboro.

  3. Amnestying Joe will not mean that they don't have to pay him. They would hope that Joe goes out and finds a better contract. But worst case scenerio... Joe is amnestied and takes a cheap contract to play for OKC or LAC.

That would mean that owners would have to pay most of what they owe Joe.

More than likely, they hold Joe until they can get assured team that will bid on Joe.

Joe would have to pass waivers to pick and choose a team. If more than one bid for Joe it is up for bids. I believe some team will pay Joe for 10 Mil. or more or year. Atlanta would then pay the balance. Joe's money comes off the books(cap). A new owner paying the extra 10 million rolled into the deal, seamlessly. Joe ain't the guy no one wants, teams will bid for him.

I agree...there is no logical reason to Amnesty Joe. He won't count against the cap but we are not going to spend on someone else if we are still paying his contract.

Its big business, you got to give to get.

  4. It seems as though every time I speak my mind about what I would like to see happen in reference to the Hawks there is always someone there to tear me down. Though I understand it may give some of you a sense of false hope, it gives me hope when i think about what "could" happen with the organization. Im not ignorant I understand that the NBA is a business and therefore there are many rules by which how much money you can throw out there to get these players. I just want the Hawks to make some key moves to make the team better, who knows maybe we will get Howard, its just something good to think about. If you are a true Atlanta fan then you know the it is a city of false hope, all of our teams are good enough to make the playoffs but they always blow it hard when they get there with early round exits every year. ( Which has made Atlanta the most miserable sports city by Forbes )

We all want the Hawks to go somewhere but we all know we cannot do it with the doodoo the we have on our roster right now. So if you see myself or someone else posting farfetched scenarios don't tear them down they just want to see something great happen... Let them vent to other Hawks fans.

    Thanks, FutureGM friends.gif

  5. I think it's that we are in that perfect gelling mode. I wouldn't take this through the microscope of the playoffs.. but right now, with so many injuries, LD is forced to play guys and we have guys who can step up.

I've been praising Pargo and Zaza all year long. I don't think Mean Willie Green is bad at all. However, I wouldn't have a continued believe that Hinrich > Joe. Joe can do what Hinrich does and he's just better. The key is that when we play, Josh has to play like he has shown he can. Inside and in control. IF he does that, we're the most dangerous team in the game.

Josh is at the level as he was in the Chicago playoff series. When the guy is focused he is awesome. That is what he is. He cannot trade him because he is the heartbeat of this team. We and Dwight together would be awesome, with Teague I believe can bring a championship. We have a top-notch bench, a Dwight away from elitist status.

  6. If Jason Heyward played to his potential instead of well below it, I'm sure Mr. Young wouldn't have made that statement. They traded last year for a Black lead-off guy who went to the All-Star Game the season before. True, a Braves game is a tough sell when it overlaps the much more compelling and talent-laden NBA and NFL, but I would never accuse baseball, or the Braves, of purposely freezing out African Americans. Like someone said earlier, the Black Athlete simply finds no glamour in baseball anymore because the other two sports have lapped it in terms of popularity and prestige of the stars. Isn't Matt Kemp a perennial MVP candidate? No sports-aware woman would know who he is if he had on a I Am Matt Kemp t-shirt. Now compare that to 20 years ago when women went crazy over guys like David Justice without knowing how many outs you had to get. You could write a book about the many ways baseball sabotaged it's own popularity with fans and potential great Black players. Without getting too general in terms if race, steroids just isn't in the Black Athletes thought. After the firestorm, the sport just felt lame and meant for players who weren't naturally world-class athletes. Besides, look at the basic make-up of a baseball game and the oppurtunities for success. Hitting .300 is considered great. Really? Many nights you do absolutely nothing with no recognition. A dunk or a touchdown catch on Sportcenter is infinitely better than an RBI single on Baseball Tonight.

You have severely contradicted yourself in this post.

Baseball began signing the teenage Carribean player for a quarter of the high school senior in America. That kid in the Dominican Republic was/is signed at 15 for $10,000 while the high school senior at Southwest Dekalb with a football scholarship in tow would need $100,000 to bypass college football. See the SWD kid can't get a scholorship to play baseball at Georgia State because half-azz Skippy from Riverwood needs that slot.

    Do the research board.

Honestly, I thought he was a coach. I called check.

TMac: All that money and yo hair as nappy as it was back in S.E.

    HWK_vsOKC_030312_m7.jpg

Durant: See, All Three balls got my name on them.

    HWK_vsOKC_030312_LD.jpg

    LD: Zaza, you're in

Zaza: Cool, dinner at my place.

Josh: You scared of this! You scared of this! Yeah, Howyoulikemeknow!!

  8. Baseball abandon blacks? Or, did blacks abandon baseball for football and basketball.

Should we worry? Nope. 4 of 5 starters on the Hawks are not white. Look at the Falcons

and observe their starters. The majority are not white guys.

The little leagues are filled in Atlanta. The middle and high schools turn players away. Explain why colleges are not recruiting in urban areas? When is the last time you saw a "utility player" on a MLB roster? The Black player has to hit the ball for 450 ft or run from first to home in 9 seconds. East Cobb and Columbus are not the only places baseball is played.

  9. Some are happy with Baseball but others see what it is. I see as a coach, as a former player, fan and historian, Baseball has abandon the Afro-American. On the college and pro-level. The best baseball seen was 1960 to 1985. The leveling of talent with the help of steroids allowed MLB to market those that can afford the higher tickets. It is true, 5% of D1 colleges have black baseball players. Look at GState, Tech and UGA. Baseball is back to "old boys", "country club" and corporate.

Metro Atlanta numbers more Blacks than any urban area outside of Africa. So the Braves and baseball care less about Black America.

  10. Actually, he would go to whichever of the teams that are under the cap bid the most money on him. That means we are best served to amnesty him early in the offseason when people have money and we can get the most competitive bid for him. He would never pass the bidding process without someone taking him so teams like LA, NY, etc. that are over the cap wouldn't have a chance for him at all.

Since that team would still get him a a relatively small salary and the ASG would be stuck paying him to play for someone else, I think it is a fantasy to talk about JJ being amnestied. Remember that the ASG won't even fire their coaches because they don't want to pay their coaches not to work and those guys are the cheapest in the entire league while JJ makes 12x what Woodon and Drew have.

I don't think it is fantasy, it's logic and chance. Joe would without a doubt attract 10 mil. on the open bid if amnested. with the hawks on the hook with ten is akin to perhaps 5 as tax (luxury tax tag). Freeing the 19.7 mil on cap to be used is the chip. So by this and filling the cap the hawks do spend ten mil for the ability to fortify the roster and fill the Philips. Filling the Philips, contending and strengthening the brand while more exposure globally. A narrow scope see's this as fantasy.

  11. If all this is true and they are looking to cut cost vs trading for talent, for me its a good move to gather some picks for this draft. Lets face it, they are not going to attract anyone significant so long as they remain determined to stay under the LT.

Only one way to build a contender and stay under the cap that I know of, take your shots in the draft. Lets have a fire sale and just maybe we get lucky with a draft pick or two.er

Moving Marvin for Sessions and getting a TPE, pick and Morris for Hinrich is a stroke of near genius. This is a deep draft and we can pick up 2. This time maybe keep the assets. The amnesty of Joe is neccessary to menuever forward. Sit Al, resign the bench and draftees, sign D12 with Joe's capspace. Easy.

  12. The thing you have to look at too is even if the Hawks trade Kirk for the TPE AND Marvin for Sessions, that still gives the Hawks $57,186,097 committed towards salaries for next season and only Ramon Sessions, Jeff Teague, Joe Johnson, Al Horford, and Zaza Pachulia under contract. They are dangerously close (actually currently over) the LT threshold now and will be well above next season. I could see them doing these types of moves and then moving either Al or Josh in the offseason (most likely Josh since Al's value would be low coming off injury and Josh will also be an expiring deal.

The deals they do now not only need to be done to affect the future payroll, but must be done in a way to keep this team a solid team in the Eastern Conference.

    That would include Josh.

Amnest Joe and the figures drop to $37,500,000. That is enough move to sign any FA including D12. Someone will certainly sign Joe for atleast 10 maybe 15mil,

  13. I don't think we can dump everything and still be attractive to Dwight.

It would be better to try to trade for a resigned Dwight

    or

Go for a championship with an unresigned Dwight and hope that Hometown love makes him want to resign.

It's not a dump everything. It is a dump Marvin, Hinrich and Joe. Those three and adding Sessions means 24 mil off the cap. Someone will pay Joe minimum 10 mil. The gate at Philips will be enough to cover the balence of amnested Joe.

  14. The big fella has his decision and Orlando has theirs. Orlando is not loyal to D-12. They are loyal to Orlando.

If we offered Horf for the rental of D-12 and there was no Bynum or Several picks from NJ coming, they would likely go with talent for talent.

IF D-12 were willing to resign with us, then I would throw Teague and the first in to sweeten the pot. But understand, I would readily go with Horf for the rental if it were offered.

    Be Flabberghasted.

At this point I'd sit on trading for Dwight. I'd move assets and go after him off-season. He will be dealt but may not sign. In the off-season I amnest Joe and dump the else. Making the Marvin deal nets 4mil., dumping Joe is 20. With a cap number of 44 mil. persue D12 and keep Al, Josh, Teague while having Willie, Zaza, Mac, Rad, 9-5, and sessions. We then can win the championship.

    e
  15. For Gosh sakes D...you start off saying smart stuff...then get silly.

    Horf/Teague for D12? Veritable insanity.

D12 is going to NJN for a player or two plus their good draft pick(s). They are tanking and Deron isn't b*tching cause he is in on the deal. The Russian billionaire has probably set up a "keep yer mouth shut" account for him in Switzerland.

EVEN THINKING that you could get D12 for a newbie (but improving) PG and an undersized center puts me in a state of flabbergast.

    Yes - I said it - I am flabbergasted...

My folks at latest say it will be NJ, LA or Chicago. The caution is, big fella is still uncertain.

  16. There would have to be 2 seperate trades considering that the Lakers cannot combine their TPE with picks or players so more like Hinrich for Lakers' TPE and then 2nd rounder for Morris and a 1st (although that trade itself might be illegal considering we are still over the cap). Now how that 1st helps the Hawks get a center I do not f***ing know but it's the thought that counts.

The Lakers (or Dallas) is not a lock to make the playoffs. If Kobe misses significant time they miss the playoffs. Sund needs to make both moves quickly.

. The Atlanta Hawks trade PG Kirk Hinrich to the Los Angeles Lakers for SG Darius Morris and a first-round pick (either the Lakers' pick or Dallas' pick from the Lamar Odom trade)

Why the teams should make this trade: The Lakers are dire need of a point guard, and they've coveted Hinrich in the past. They possess a trade exception of $8.9 million acquired via the Odom trade, so they can absorb Hinrich's salary. He is a versatile combo guard who is an excellent passer and can score. He owns a nice shooting stroke and would make teams pay for doubling Kobe Bryant or Gasol and Andrew Bynum in the post.

Hinrich also offers insurance if Steve Blake is injured again. He's a tough, gritty competitor who would bring the defensive mentality Mike Brown loves. He could flourish in L.A. instead of languishing on the Atlanta bench, where he has lost traction as a result of Jeff Teague's emergence.

The Hawks have to look around at their competition in the East and realize they do not have the pieces to beat the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls or even the Philadelphia 76ers. Although they are currently 20-14, this team cannot make a deep playoff run with Al Horford out of the lineup until possibly April or May. The Hawks need a center, and by giving up Hinrich they would be able to either grab a big man in the draft or an asset they could flip to give them roster flexibility in order to trade for a big in the offseason.

Morris is a talented point guard who should have stayed at Michigan for another year. In time, however, he could be groomed for the starter's role or serve as a valuable backup.
