  1. Quote: I think Grundy is the better defender. He picked people's pockets all day in the Summer leagues. His offense is definitely superior to Ivey's. He did well in the developmental league leading his team with 19+ pts a game. When allowed to play his game he's got a blend of mid-range, slashing and a little perimeter to get inside. A good insurance policy for Speedy and Lue. We would miss their scoring. nthony Grundy ****12 .643 4.3 1.4 .8 .50 .643 .339 .58 .75 ****Royal Ivey 62 .701 3.5 1.4 1.7 .43 .40 13.0 .33 .94 2004-2005 ****2005-2006 73 .727 3.6 1.3 1.0 .44 .40 13.4 .33 .32
  2. Quote: Quote: Would it be fair to say that Hendrix is to musicianship what Bob Dillon is to vocalization I think that is damning Hendrix with faint praise. ACCEPTED-- Beauty or genius is in the eye or ear of the beholder. I have seen tapes of Hendrix shows and I have talked to some who have been at the concerts (on drugs and not on drugs) and they all agree what a spellbinding presence he had. I don't get it with Dillon. His current interviews reveal him to be much shallower than the alter his scribes have exalted him to.
  3. Quote: You really have to take a muscian in the context of the time that he/she actually played. Hendrix was something very new when he hit the scene. For me, since I am not a muscian, I take what other guitar players say as the best evidence. Hendrix' contemporaries thought he was amazing: Claption, Paige, etc. So, I don't think he was overrated, but his influence was so great that his stuff now sounds trite and dull. Would it be fair to say that Hendrix is to musicianship what Bob Dillon is to vocalization
  4. Quote: Ivey is lucky to have an NBA job at this point. Any contribution he makes this year is a bonus. I agree. I would really prefer having signed Anthony Grundy and let them battle for the 3rd PG. He is still listed as a free agent but I think he signed to go to Europe.
  5. Reminds me of Theo Ratliff with shot blocking and rebounding and above average athlete coming out of South Florida. Theo played at Wyoming. Almost exact same size.
  6. Quote: Quote: First thing, the Heat aren't real NBA champions. They didn't even ahve a winning record againest other teams with winning records. [/indent] The Miami Heat got the paychecks to prove it... they get to raise the banner next season... they will get those HUGE diamond rings to commemorate it... they will go down in the record books with the recognition they achieved... they also were assembled by Pat Riley for the sole reason of achieving the Championship which they accomplished... there will be no footnote in the record books with your explaination why they are NOT deserving of it and that's why they keep score and statistics will not crown a champion.
  7. How would the 2006 Miami Heat possibly have done in these games. Would Shaq have to go to his finesse game because the international refs might call his physical game closer than the NBA. Wade would have been more effective with his own team and not playing second string which Coach K. had him playing. I think Haslem's game would have translated well to the international game. Posey would need to be "on" with the perimeter scoring to be effective. I think Antoine, unlike some others, could have done well. Payton would have had to ditch his running dialogue with the refs and his wolfing with the other players to see if with better concentration whether he has any thing left. Alonzo would be just Alonzo...great lockeroom, bench rah-rah and play important minutes. This is just hypothetical but I think they could have done well esp. with Riley and no international players they would have to do without.
  8. A strong bonding session like what Jameer is doing would be an excellent way for a young team like ours to prepare for a long season of possible ups and downs to put them more on an even keel. GO HAWKS!
  9. Quote: Maybe we should consider sending a NBA World Champion team crowned just before the future games to represent the USA to earn a truer designation as WORLD CHAMPIONS. I also understand that Greece ran a repeated pick and roll early in the game to get the lead capitalizing on the USA interior defense. Interior defense lapses...see 2005-2006 Hawks.
  10. LW: The biggest thing for us was to learn how to close out games at the end. Last year with the Grizzlies we played the Hawks and beat them on a last second shot, and thats the type of thing that hopefully with my knowledge I can help this team avoid. We can improve the Hawks record easily just by pulling out some of those games that are within three or four points coming down to the end. The other thing is stealing wins at times of the year when other teams might not be as focused, like around the NBA All-Star break. Its easy to catch teams napping then because players are thinking about the break, their vacation plans, etc. But if you can get a couple wins in there, those count, and may end up helping to make the difference for you at the end of the season. If he can do that here I can see him with important minutes at the end of our games here.
  11. Happy Birthday and many happy returns. You and I have seen a lot of Basketball through the years. The "O" Oscar Robertson, Wilt, Cousy, Jerry West, The Iceman, Earl the Pearl, Elgin Baylor, Tiny Archibald, The Doctor and last but not least Walt "Clyde" Frazier. Go Hawks!
