  1. I've waited for this day since he was hired. Couldn't stand him. Now it's up to Sund to find a better head coach. My list:

    +1

Didn't like him since day one myself. Too bad he may have set us back a couple of years. Still, this makes this years humiliation worth it. We could have made it a series and still lost and still extended Woody.

  2. Now cleveland fans and cavs ownership speaking negatively about lebron is on sportscenter for christ's sake.

Diesel man up and eat your crow. You started this thread with an agenda and its blown up in your face. Take ownership of it.

I doubt he'll eat his crow. Regardless every time I see how classy LeBron is handling it (it really hurt to type that) it makes me laugh even harder at this fail of a thread.

  3. I am also hoping we don't see "stick Teague in a corner and count on him to hit perimeter jumpers"-Teague.

...or iso-SF,PF,SG that would stick Teague in a corner. Hopefully not a whole lot of ISO-anything. Even if good ball movement doesn't get us past the 2nd round it will be enjoyable to watch and a much needed change for my iso-sore eyes.

  4. He is trying to get a new contract..............its not working.

Mr. Sund, its not working, right ?

Woody is the king at saying the right things to keep his job. Teague will be our PG next season but hopefully we won't be seeing much iso-Teague.

  5. At PG, you need a proven guy who can run an offense. A good A/TO ratio guy.

With Blake you get a guy who can get you 8 assists per game and hit over 42% from three if you need him to. I don't look to him as being the team's savior at PG, but just consider... What if Teague is not ready.

We are already overpaying a "proven guy who can run an offense with a GREAT A/TO ratio." For the 123223435th time his name is Mike Bibby. Yet you want to sign another Mike Bibby with worse defense??? No thank you. Teague is our guy especially if we get an offensive minded coach. Teague plays above average D and is an above average passer who can take advantage of our young athletic runners. Teague is the perfect team for the way it is manned now. We just have to find a coach who takes advantage of the pieces we have not one who tries the square pegs round hole theory.

  6. This comment kind of surprised me coming from a head coach:

It seems to me that successful coaches establish from day one the principle of "There can only be one head coach, and I am it. As far as coaching decisions, it's my way or the highway." Woodson doesn't seem to have that attitude. It looks like Woodson gave the players a green light to run over him.

No, that's Woody trying to be the likable coach. In the same paragraph he says if you'll do what we're telling you to do we'll win. Look, Woody was the King at saying the right thing but never actually backing it up. The fact that the whole world was telling him to change his offense and switching D and he still did nothing proves how hard headed this guy is.

  7. This isn't about level.

This is about respect fans have for their star player.

Even when our star player was Antoine Walker and we were putting up a 13 win season, the fans didn't boo Walker.

Hawks fans are so funny. As soon as we get somebody good like Smitty, Deke, Joe, etc... and they don't live up to our perceived standards.... we are not going to rest until they are run out of town.

Smitty was run out of town. Deke was run out of town. Shareef was run out of town.

I don't remember Deke or Smitty being booed or "run out of town" by the fans. They were and still remain fan favorites. You really need to work on your comparison skills because so far, in this thread alone, you're shooting an 0'fer.

  8. Yep, but those who mattered didn't have the likes of Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue running the show from the point. That's like Chicago spending a lottery pick on a marginal shooting guard when they had MJ or the Hawks spending one on a small forward when they still had Nique in his prime. Very short-sighted to say the least.

I agree but no once knew CP would be the player he is. Had Marvin been a superstar and Paul an average PG it wouldn't have been that bad of a pick. The consensus was just that so even though it turned out to be horrid it wasn't his worst one.

  9. This is a waste of space. Coach will never read it, it's full of venom.

Anyways, I appreciate his work ethic, loyalty to the team, city and ownership when some would have walked (Brown, Paterno, Knight ect...). Never put anyone under the bus and stood his ground like a man. Having lived in my neighborhood and witnessing his generousity with the kids, I hope he continues to live here. The guys he coached will appreciate him more in time.

He never had the roster to win with.

He couldn't have gone anywhere else unlike the names you mentioned. Never put anyone under the bus?? He put his entire team under the bus at the expense of their season for the past two years. Every year, including this yea,r he said we weren't good enough to advance just so he could keep his job. That's the most gutless thing a coach could do. Sounds like someone has a skewed image of him due to being a neighbor.

I know this is his appreciation thread but let's not venture too far out of reality with this.

  10. First off, JJ didn't have to come here in the first place. We would have been a nothing doing going back to the lottery getting another Sf team had he not come.

    Buzz.

Once you get married, you will find that sometimes, you say things in the heat of the moment.... and yes, you still love them. You still support them. You still would buy them a diamond necklace. Because it's not about the heat of that moment, but it's about everything.

I think that while he was here, JJ put it all on the court. He played hard. He came to us when we were a 13 win team.. and he weathered the Esteban Batistas, Anthony Grundy's, the John Edwards and the Salim Stoudamires. Do you know how many of the guys that have been Hawks during the time we had Joe are no longer in the league now?? This is what Joe played with. He asked for help, we got him Bibby. We kept babies around him and he never complained. Even this year, when we could have picked up some meaningful FAs like Stackhouse, what did we do? Nothing. So yea, Joe is due one heat of the moment exchange after being booed by a crowd that certainly wasn't around when he was building this team with little help...

LOL! So JJ came here to do us lowly Atlanta fans a favor? Please. He came here to be "the man" and earn a max deal after that. He didn't come here because he felt he was doing us or our franchise a favor. You're either an idiot if you think so or your just in denial of a player you like. He earned those boo's with his play and then he earned even more with his mouth. We owe him nothing because I promise you he's never made any decision based on how it would affect any franchise only his bank account. Before this ordeal I thought he wanted to much money. After these playoffs and his mouth I'm glad he didn't take the original offer much less a max deal from us. Good bye and good riddance.

  11. Nope, even I can't put the blame squarely on him for them getting humiliated on national TV. But man oh man, what the hell was BK thinking on draft night? What area of the game does he perform at a good level much less great? Okay, so he can rebound a little and plays decent defense at times; so does 50-75 other guys in this league. The fact that we're even comparing his stats to Mo Evans should be a chilling indictment on the Billy Knight era.

I wasn't a huge BK fan myself but in his defense nearly everyone who mattered had Marvin pretty high. But it still didn't fill a dire need for our team so that's why I was against the pick.

  12. How are you going to be competitive when the fans start booing from the first quarter? Talk about a confidence killer. Makes you want to give up.

Yeah cause they were so competitive from the start for the 3 games prior lol. I think the fans gave them 12 quarters worth of opportunities to earn some cheers. Don't think they wanted to give them 15 especially not after our "leaders" comments.

  13. I think the 99 team should've been given a shot with a different coach. Lenny, much like Woody today had worn out his welcome in ATL and a new voice was needed. That same year, Doc Rivers was hired by Orlando. Not saying he was the best option but would've been a fresh beginning. They were too quick to get rid of Mookie and Smitty and should've just added some bench pieces and more athleticism. Back to today, I think the same holds true. Hire a new voice as HC and build around the core of this team. Al is definitely a keeper. Josh is very valuable but for the right price I'd be willing to part with him for either a viable starting C or a quick uptempo PG. This team should make the East playoffs next year with or without Joe. Don't expect to see another 10 year drought again.

I agree. It's true that team was aging but it was still a very very good team. A new head coach and some better bench depth and that team had a couple of more runs left in them for sure. Broke my heart to hear Smitty was traded for a POS like Rider.

  14. That might have turned into a good trade had JR not been such a headcase. He has so much talent and it was wasted. Also, it took us a couple years to learn that JT can't run a team. It was to bad we were not able to draft Andre Miller that year instead.

What!?! He was a head case WAY before that trade. That's why it was such a panic driven horrible trade. It was a trade that had no shot at working and was one of Babs worst trades in his career.

  15. Had we swept the Bucks and won a game or two against O-town Woody might have once again somehow managed to save his job. If we were going to go out in the 2nd round this was probably the best way to go out for the future of the franchise. Woody has to be gone now and allthough I really hated the way it ended I believe it was time to let Joe go and try to earn that max check in NY. I was going to wish him the best but now that my questions about his true self are answered I hope they ream him a new one. And they will, oh how they will.

I'm not ready to give up on this franchise yet or try and compare them to the old Smitty/Mook hawks of yesteryear. This franchise isn't close to resembling itself of that time. It's still very young and that is huge. I hope we've (ASG) has finally ID'd the problem and will work to fix it. A new coach and this talented team will be back in the hunt.

    Ding-Dong the Wood is dead!!!

  16. See that's where my problem comes in - you say IF.

    IF he changed his gameplan....

IF he changed his substitution patterns,

IF he changed up switching D once in awhile

IF he ran ANY kind of offense

you're spelling out exactly all the reasons why he is NOT an elite coach, and never will be.

    Sarcasm much?
