  1. Quote: do we really need another undersize chucker?? The Curry kid is a special player. I think he stays one more year to work on his PG skills. Depending who is declaring Milwaukee #8 or Charlotte pick #9. These two have been interested in the past.
  2. I think Portland will. With Oden and Aldrich and LaFrentz, I think PTL would consider trading Pryz (big contract) for Marvin who gives them exactly what they need... A Sf who can spread the floor. What we need from the transaction is a big and their First rounder. Us taking Pryz is a good deal if we can add in the right pieces to make it happen. Right now, I have Marvin/Solo going for Pryz/1st. There's a lot of 7 footers in this draft. PTL's first is mid first round so there's hope! Marvin is from close to PTL so maybe they'd go for this deal. No way portland does that, they are building a championship team their real soon. All they need is a backup for Roy. Kyle Weaver or Chris Douglas Roberts are both excellent shooting guards at the 13 or 14th pick. They already have Outlaw and James Jones no need for MW.
  3. You don't trade one of the best all-around players in the league because you have a guy that has a "pretty jump shot" that is only effective once every five games. If he doesn't make his first few shots he fades worst than Casper throughout the game. MW is the weakest at finishing at hole out of the top six players on the team. It is a toss up between him and Zaza sadly enough. If he can develop a consistent 3-pointer I'm sure we could get a top ten pick.
  4. Match up so well with them, damn shame we can't move to the six seed...
  5. You are being a little naive comparing "high life" NBA basketball players to common people like us. Hell I would play for peanuts to play in the league but I'm not near 7 feet being able to run and jump like that. Okay let's look at his 2 million 1. 1/3 third of it has tax implications(not a tax expert but even at 1/4 of it is 500,000). 2. Along with the agent, family, "crew" and other expenses. 3. Although alot of money to us, 2 million dollars today doesn't spend like it did 10 years ago with the U.S. dollar being weak and the 1 euro dollar being substantially worth more than 1 american dollar. 4. I'm sure he has plans on living a lavish lifestyle and not investing his money on a 3 bedroom home like an average house owner. (unless he plans on getting involved in real estate) I don't feel sorry for any millionaire but this guy along with other sports stars (Andruw Jones for instance, have you seen his home. Watch the At&t thing he did with Deion Sanders. All of that apparently living by himself) simply own and indulge in expensive things. Didn't he turn down a 5 year 50-60 million contract at 21-22 years of age? I'm sure he loves the game but this is bidness first. I'm not saying he going to dog it until he gets to sign the extension but best believe in the back of his mind that staying healthy until then is a real priority.
  6. Not to say this is right but what is the motivation to play "all out" right now. 1)He knows we don't have the pieces to make any meaningful playoff run right now until you get someone to defend the paint. He makes a little over 2 million right now. 2) God forbid he breaks a leg, foot, or rips some tendon in his leg he will be at the mercy of the Hawks contract wise. All he has to do is stay healthy until July-ish and he'll be guaranteed near max money but can you say that with a serious injury especially to his lower extremities. If i'm his agent my message is "play hard but don't overly exert yourself until the contract dispute is resolved."
  7. J. Smith hasn't had an NBA caliber pg to set him up (see Paul and West/Chandler) or a post presence to compliment him. When he's on the perimeter he has to worry about not allowing his player to the paint because no one besides him can stop a lay up. Maybe a stronger post defender would allow him to crowd the player more. Now if he is going to block and disrupt shots and rebound, I don't expect him to guard the perimeter while fighting through screens well. You are asking him to do too much defensively as well as offensively posting up guys taller and bigger. In all you are expecting a 22 year old guy to block shots, rebound, defend the post/paint, defend the perimeter, post up, and consistently make 20 foot shoots. He's obviously stronger in certain areas than others. BTW, Chilldress is not helping his game when they play together. Chilldress threat beyond 7 feet is laughable and they can basically play 5 on 4 defense and that forces J. Smith to shoot those hail mary jumpshots and shut out the paint at the same time. In the first quarter J. Smith had like 9 and 5 but that's with Marvin making his shots.
  8. Joe Johnson got Vin sanitized by consistently getting blown by allowing Vince to finish at will. R.J. was out there taking his lunch as well.
  9. If your going to play Josh "no range" Chilldress along with J. Smith you're forcing him to shoot those long 2 pointers. He can't get to the hole when the hole when the other team packs the paint because Chilldress is no threat from outside at all.
  10. Marvin Williams for any pick in the top 10. Let us see Charlotte may bite since Morrison seems to be ineffective I don't know. If BK is still gm I don't see him parting with MW. He is too obsessed of the idea of what Marvin was suppose to be in his grand scheme. I know a different GM can get the pick we need to get this thing going "forward".
  11. I feel it as well but you know they are going to lose a couple that just disappoints you to no end. They always play down to the level of their competition playing .500 teams poorly and sub .500 teams neck to neck. When was the last time they sustained a 20 point lead on a team allowing some young guys some playing time? Only one I remember is Denver but they still played them down to the wire.
  12. The thing is he is so wide open he should take a dribble forward and take a shot drifting towards the basket instead of just hoisting a shot up. He has a decent pull up shot that is un-blockable but he just needs to gather himself and not settle for an open 20 foot shot. Off-season routine for him duck tape a catchers glove to his left hand and do EVERYTHING right-handed.
  13. Hordford needs to stop trying to guard the perimeter and stay in the paint at all cost. He has to understand that he is the Center on this team and has to box out their biggest player.
  14. Quote: what is HS obsession with MW?? You guys have him gassed up like we have the franchise sitting on the bench...I mean I like the guy's heart as much as anyone but he doesn't have the ability to be getting all the burn ya'll want him to get. Marvin may be lead-footed but he plays decent D. He did a good job on Mac tonight even though Mac gets superstar treatment from the refs and got him in foul trouble. Marv did a good job hitting his little mid range shot too. Floor spacing is something we have in VERY small quantities, so putting mario in for marvin is a backward move in that regard. Mario gets hustle/garbage points in the same space as Chill, Zaza, Horf, and smoove (except he is only 6'5"), so he will be packing the d in more and creating even more problems for JJ. I dont get the fetish for MWest. Did you actually watch the f'ing game? While Woody inserted him in the 3rd he was all over the place rebounding and defending giving the Hawks extra opportunities. Is it me or did he not require a double team to guard Mcgrady. West actually helped us build a small lead while in there. You notice he shut down everyone he guarded in the 3rd.
  15. Thinking back 04' was a pivotal year for us. We could have offered Rasheed Wallace a near max contract and still selected J. Smith with the sixth pick because Devon Harris and Livingston were just out of grasp and we were all drooling over them. We could of traded the sixth pick for Utah's 15 and 17 picks but how realistic was that. This is my hindsight 20/20 of the day. Center = R. Wallace PF = Al Jefferson Sf = J. Smith (I'm in my Homer Simpson drooling mode)
  16. Quote: Quote: I pretty much agree with your assesment. One thing I do not not hold against BK that much is the inability to get a true center. We have NEVER had the chance to draft a real center in the draft that panned out except for Bynum when we had the #2 pick. Bynum fell to the 20's where the Lakers took him. Since 20 other GMs passed on Bynum too I can't really hold that one against BK. Center is the hardest position to fill and most of the time it takers lottery luck to get the really good ones. (Yao, Ewing, Hakeem, Duncan, Robinson, O'Neal, Howard) - Pretty much all of the dominant centers in the modern era were the #1 pick over all and you had to be lucky to get the #1 pick. (The Spurs got lucky twice). Even Okefor went #2 right behind Howard. Or a past player does his old franchise a "favor" (Celtics / McHale / Garnette connection) / (Lakers / West/ Gasol connection.) When there is a good 7 footer available BK will draft them (he drafted Gasol). Since coming to ATL, BK has had bad luck in terms of NO talented centers available at his draft spot. Bynum was the 10th pick, not 20-something. And Billy had plenty of chances to draft at least a capable back-up big man. In 2004 he could have drafted Biedrins instead of Childress. The Salim pick in 2005 could have easily been Ronny Turiaf or Andre Blatche. The Solomon Jones pick in 2006 could have been Craig Smith, Paul Milsap or Leon Powe, all contributors on their respective teams. Yeah Bynum was the 10th pick and the youngest player to ever be drafted with almost unlimited potential factor. I thought we had the choice to trade #2 for #5 and #13 from Charlotte because they apparently fancied Marvin Williams. With the 5th pick it would've been a huge reach for Bynum but beggars can't be choosers regarding the Hawks and a big. All his 2nd round choices have been busts including Salim who is the worst guard to come out of Arizona that produces nothing but nba talent (except Miles Simon who I don't think was drafted) at the guard position. Solomon who I feel can be a player can't even crack two minutes a game even when trading all his competition for playing time. What is up with that? Travis Hansen? Donta Smith? Biendris and Smith in 04 could have changed the landscape of the east.
  17. I don't think we can get Chilldress for what we drafted him at but maybe late teens to early 20's. I would trade him for Gordon since he is hell bent on signing a 1 year offer to become unrestricted and maybe working a sign and trade. With the 3rd pick it became a no brainer towards the end of the draft to pick Horford. Yi was the sexy pick early on but once he started to duck workouts against the top tier players he began to drop. Conley wasn't an option with 3 healthy pg's including Claxton at the time and an 11th pick to address the position. Now if he would of worked the trade for Stoudamire for the 3 pick/expirings then I would give Knight alot of credit.
  18. I heard on 790 the zone that he may be extended. Hopefully it's on a 1 year basis and the good thing is we have no pick that he would most likely botch. So now he can concentrate on trading Chilldress for a possible lotto pick and Marvin Williams for any serviceable big.
  19. This team needs his ability to get into the paint. Hopefully our lottery point guard has been working on his 3 point shooting 3PM-A 6-31. Roughly 19% ouch.
  20. Gerald Green really really and I mean reallly sucks. He's the epitome of what Knight looks for in a player all athletic ability no substance.
  21. Quote: Quote: Quote: Joe Johnson is far and away the Hawks best player. Not really. If you put a gun to my head... I'd probably take Josh Smith. He does a lot more, imo. Has a higher ceiling, as well. This is Joe's ceiling. I don't see how this year could be JJ's ceiling since this has been his worst season here. At worst last season is his ceiling. So why is he struggling so much when last year he was playing at a high level with less talent and the same exact coaching staff. I think he is injured with maybe a groin or quad injury. He really doesn't make his teammates better... Double teams come and crowd him vigorously knowing he doesn't have enough foot speed to get by them or split the double and he doesn't make decisive passes/decisions like Tracy Mcgrady did last night. With some type of offensive gameplan that can change tho I hope.
  22. Quote: Everyone makes mistakes in whatever job/life. It's what you are willing to do to make up for those mistake is what makes you a better person. BK has shown us he will do what it takes to makeup for his mistakes * Fire Woody * Trading for Jose Calderon/ trade for Bibby * Getting rid of S-Williams/bring in Big AL Now what have YOUR BELOVED OWNERS HAVE DONE? * Double the Ticket prices for next year. The Falcons' owner has done the opposite. * Keep Woody on Board * Block a trade that would have brought us a DAMN GOOD PG (Calderon) but hey, you guys are right BK is the biggest problem we have. lol Are you sh!tting me? You know he traded a high second and a trade exception for Anthony Freaking Johnson for a push to the playoffs. Then what happens, they fail miserably and lucks out to select Al Horford. Not only that we luck out even more and select another lottery pick and we still have the same problems as before. Knight isn't totally responsible but my goodness look at collective record. How can you defend that. By the way Law has virtually no impact you would think a 4 year player would. It's our luck that the Pacers are now able to select a player that would undoubtly help the Hawks get over the hump. To compound matters worst we have no pick with a plethora of talented big men that would undoubtly start from day one.
  23. Quote: Quote: Quote: Lebron can be classified as a SF, PG, or SG but he's has the game of a SG and that is where he's at his best. Lebron is a sf or a pg. I don't see what you're saying. Lebron may be the best basket attacker ever. His jumper is sometimes terrible. His shooting percentage from 3 is abysmal despite the 7 he hit last night. You can't count on him from the outside. That's where a true 2 shines. Like I said, Lebron attacks the basket like a sf. Dare I say, like a Dominique? I get what you are saying, though. Who was the last team to win a title by building around a sf? Can't think of one right now. Larry Bird = 2 championships and 4 or 5 Finals Appearances Dr. J = 1 NBA Championship but Bird cost him a shot at few chances and he played his younger days in the ABA. Well yeah if you go back in history but I'm talking about right now (circa 2000) as it relate to the Hawks. Larry Legend and Erving are some of the greatest players of history and they are the exception. To go back and pick those players kind of helps my theory I suppose. I believe no SF should be drafted in the top 3 ala Marvelous MW.
  24. ^^^^^^^^^^ Maybe Roy didn't want to work out here because our G.M. guaranteed a slot for Shelby. As soon as Stern stepped to the mic and breathed "Shh" the damn city almost erupted into a riot. He may of thought he would get drafted 3rd ahead of potential busts like Tyrus and Morrison. Also it was reported Marvin had a bad workout here. Probably hitting 1 out of 10 threes, fumbling the ball and walking with it saying do over. Small Forward is the least important position on a team. Players from Marvin's draft class up to this summer's draft with MW's position.
