  1. Joe Johnson is the glue for this team. He makes the other parts work. If we don't sign him back, I don't see us competing for a title anytime soon. No matter what Jeff Schultz says.

From what I've read on this forum, we have to sign him and overpay if necessary because there's not going to be anyone else we can get that's any better. That said, I don't see this team competing for a title even with Joe unless the rest of the guys make significant improvements. Joe just isn't that good.

  2. The real problem is the way the league economy works. People will always be willing to overpay someone like Joe and it makes it so that even though he's not as good as someone like Kobe, his huge salary will always prevent his team from signing another really good player unless they manage to draft an all-star. That's the only way I see a team with Joe as its best player making the playoffs. He needs another player of his caliber or slightly below.

  3. That's probably because Roy's inside game is much better. Well..at least he has better numbers but I think Joe could have equal or better numbers if he made inside play more of a priority.

I don't necessarily think that Roy is better than Joe in terms of pure talent, but Joe seems to fall in love with the jumper a little too often for my tastes.

  4. This "let's start JC and put Marvin on the bench" way of thinking is about as dumb an idea as I've seen on this board. It is irrelevant who you think is a better player between the two. The reason you bring Crawford off the bench is that he better suits the role of 6th man.

  5. I agree that we should still be in the full-court press to get Joe Smith (this is where having the ASG instead of a single guy, ala Blank, really hurts).

A bu bu center from Petro or Swift is fine with me. I actually like Swift a little better than Petro as I see a little bit of a birdman attitude in Swift. The Hawks desperately need that quirky, all-out, damn the canons guy on the team.

From what I've seen, the only similarities between Birdman and Swift are the tattoos and goofy hair. Maybe I just don't know, but I don't think Swift is anywhere near as active as Birdman is.

  6. That's funny, Walt, because when Morris signed on with the Knicks for the minimum you said:

    Link

Are you now saying that the whopping 225 minutes he played for the Knicks changed your impression of him so dramatically that you were ready to renounce your statement from a year prior? In case you forgot, you said that not signing Morris to a $1.6M deal was:

If so, that's fine, but who's to say you won't change your mind next year on Siler?

    Good times.

  7. I refered to the knicks numbers as well. He had 5.0 apg with the Knicks. People are trying to pigeon hole Crawford as being the second coming of FLip... because you lose a flip, this fanbase think you should gain a flip. 80% of them know nothing about him other than his FG% and what they have heard about his defense. However, he's not the second coming of FLip. His game is more akin to JJ's. It will be similar to having Vince Carter and Tmac (after Tmac had developed).

All of this is irrelevant. Even if he was a JJ clone he'd still be better for this team as a 6th man.

  8. Floyd, you have an agenda.

This is beyond hilarious. You have to be a troll.

Will you tell me the coaching staff has an agenda too when Crawford is coming off the bench? The 6th man position is the perfect spot for a guy who does nothing but score a lot. That's the point.

  9. Lsughable in my opinion. I'll be watching the games when we play those teams. ZaZa is a joke!

McDyess is the only one of those guys who could come close to filling Zaza's role, and at this point in their careers Zaza is better than him at that role. The rest of those guys are completely different players. Wilcox and Gooden are both better scorers, but that's not what we need at Zaza's position.

  10. I know this will probably get moved but Brett Favre gets on my DAMN NERVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY IS T.O. A DIVA BUT BRETT COUNTRY BUMPKIN, WRANGLER WEARING ,LAWN MOWING RIDING FAVRE JUST COMPETITIVE I DONT GET IT I KNOW HE IS A GREAT FOOTBALL PLAYER BUT GOODNESS GRACIOUS HE AINT JESUS!!!!! Whew I had to get off my chest sorry for yelling. :shake_puter:

Don't hate him cause he's white.

  11. There's a lot of bad memories here on Hawksquawk... and a lot of people willing to blame everybody but Marvin for Marvin's development.

i just wanted to share what Woody said in an interview with Sekou last offseason:

So, why is it that some of you think that Woody is trying to sabatoge Marvin or limit Marvin offensively when going into last season, Woody said that it Marvin being a 2nd or third option had to take place?

Who are you talking to? Is there some invisible poster who's arguing with you about this sabotage?

  12. Not to mention that none of Woodson's supporters want to acknowledge the historically pathetic nature of the Eastern Conference the last two years. North Carolina probably could have made a run at the 8th seed two years ago.

  13. Yeah but we're the only team in history that is better than our coach allows us to be. I guess you don't realize that every other playoff team in history was lead to the playoffs by their coach and the truth is that we'd have probably won 2-3 championships in the past 5 years if we had Phil Jackson as our coach.

You're just acting intentionally dense if you don't understand that a team can make the playoffs while still underachieving.
