At worst, he's Anthony Bennett IMHO.

The Little kid will be much better than Zion but doesn't have a quarter the hype.

    Too small for that.

You must mean too short. Cause weight wise Zion is bigger than Karl was already lol.

We'll see how things work out for him at Duke though, I don't think their big 3 is a good fit for each other play-style wise at all.

As a fan (and I would hope if I were ever in position to be an owner), I want my GM making the final call on free agents, draft decisions, etc.  If I don't trust my GM, I fire them.  I would expect the GM to dialogue with me and explain his reason but unless the GM is kind of shrugging his shoulders unable to decide then I would not want him trading down just to find the guy who I like better as a fan.  Do I want my GM nixing using the 15th pick on Kawhi Leonard so we can take Nikola Vucevic or Iman Shumpert because I like them better?  No.  If you have a Pete Babcock then fire him.  Otherwise, you are paying the man to do the due diligence, synthesize the input from your scouting department and coaching staff, and make the best call.  Let him do it without armchair GMing from the owner.

This is not about JJJ vs Doncic vs Trae or anything.  It is about the right process for well run organizations.

Technically speaking the GM did still make the final call. He just chose not to go with what they wanted and instead go for a player they would all be okay with. I don't think that decision making should lead to losing his job. Especially not based on one draft.

This echoes all the reasons I don't want the owner pulling the strings on decisions.  If you think Schlenk isn't making the right calls fire him and install someone whose judgment you trust better but find someone whose judgment you trust and then let them run the team.

At the same time you definitely aren't going to always agree on every decision, especially draft wise. I think Trae is a good compromise for everyone really.

  4. Anyone seen this yet? Apparently Schlenk wanted Jaren Jackson above all.

To my big brother George -- the richest man in town! From Colin Iheanacho:

I think [Atlanta Hawks GM Travis] Schlenk has gotten a lot of unwarranted heat for that Mavs deal. I didn’t like some of the moves (taking Omari Spellman at No. 30, trading pick No. 34, top-5 protection on Mavs pick), but it’s clear the situation was unusual. From reporting on and before Draft night, the consensus seems to be Schlenk wasn’t high on Doncic (unpopular opinion, but understandable), wanted Jaren Jackson, Jr. (who marketing and ownership didn’t want), and either had to take Doncic and take credit for a pick he didn’t want or settle on another ownership favorite in Trae Young.

I get that a lot of owners are heavily involved in the draft process -- Mark Cuban, Dan Gilbert, Robert Sarver, Vivek Ranadive, Michael Jordan, etc. -- but I find it unsettling that all those names (besides Cuban, who has his own issues) are leaders of some the most dysfunctional franchises in the league. Is it time to start labeling Hawks owner Tony Ressler in this group? He signed Dwight Howard, installed two differing minds as heads of ops in Wes Wilcox and Mike Budenholzer (which led to a lot of instability after Danny Ferry left), neglected to re-sign Al Horford and held on to Paul Millsap too long (among other things).

Should Hawks fans be concerned that Ressler could very well interfere too much and mess the rebuild up?

I'm sure this is because he would rather have just 2 guaranteed contracts- I think he wanted Spellman and would have still tried to get rid of the 30th pick if he felt like he would slip to 34.

Yeah that’s not an incompetent plan at all

We just got to give him some time, beside Mark Jackson was a defensive type coach before Steve Kerr took over at Golden State.  Maybe this could be the same way.

In the same way I felt that Mark was only out of GS when they realized he couldn’t get them over the jump. I don’t think we would move on from Pierce until we have a team that he isn’t gettin the most out of with his coaching.

  7. I think one of the main things I’m excited about with Trae’s future is the magnetism he has. He’s the type of player that other players want to play with. If he really fulfills his potential he may be the one to change the culture of bringing free agents to Atlanta.

Just to clarify. I'm not saying Doncic is not marketable, or even highly marketable. I'm just stating the pretty obvious fact that in the Atlanta market, Trae Young is going to be the bigger draw from the two.

I can definitely co-sign this. Trae's ceiling popularity-wise in the city FAR exceeds Luka's.

I don't think Schlenk will use a top 5 pick on a center. He stated to the media he prefers playmakers over bigs.

Bol Bol is a pretty gifted center though, I wasn't thinking top 5 but if we get a second lotto pick I'd definitely give him a look.

So is R.J. Barrett any good?  They have him as the #1 prospect for 2019 draft.

He's really good, I think I prefer Cam Reddish at this point. But I'm gonna let the season dictate what happens here.

Also Bol Bol could be interesting for us. He's a lot smoother offensively than a lot of centers as of recently. Also he is quite huge lol.

If they sign Boogie they will easily finish with a pick outside top 5, worry is that it would be outside lottery, I'm greedy and want it to be 6 ?

I hope so too lol, they are in the west though, if LeBron goes there and Kawhi is there next season it may not matter who they even pick up in free agency.

  12. Now that I really think about it, the Trae trade is a risk worth taking. I still don't like the protection but I do agree with the idea that we just need to give ourselves as many chances at great players through the draft that we can. Getting an additional first round pick essentially does that. If we can hit on a few of these picks (not even all because I know the level of luck you need in the draft). We could actually build a solid core faster than just taking our chances with one high pick every year.

I just realized the Suns gave up an UNPROTECTED future 1st in the Bridges trade.

Slink needs to hire a freaking trade consultant to tackle his bald arse when someone offers him a trade.  Just stupid.

That was just the Suns being the Suns if we're being honest lol

I was wondering if we were going to plunge into the trade fray there once he slipped past 10.  Seemed doable and the sort of risk we should have been taking even though I'm not a huge MPJ guy.

Yeah, I feel like when you're early rebuilding or a title contender are really the only times you can take chances on the big Boom or Bust prospects like MPJ.

I didn't expect that but you're right.  Most feel like both Dallas and Atlanta won.

Yeah, I guess our standards are just higher than they should be or something. Most are saying it's good for both teams and you can't declare a true winner or loser until you see how they pan out.
