I am sorry for being so obtuse, but I need to clarify.  Is it going to go down like this?:

We have a deal for Chicago's #7.  The deal involves the Hawks' #19 and #30 picks, Dennis Schröder and some bad contracts going back to the Hawks.

The Hawks use the newly acquired #7 and works a trade with Memphis for their #4.

Memphis gets Parsons off their books, as well as the #7 pick.  The Hawks acquire the #4.

    Hawks' Draft:

#3:  Mo Bamba (the Hawks' BPA)

#4:  Luca Doncic.  They either keep Luca or work a big deal with another team.

    Is that it?

Nah, I'm pretty sure we would just be taking Bamba at #7.

The collective of “Hawks Fans” in this city will not like a Doncic pick.  Porter and Young are the far more “sexy” picks for a quasi-cosmopolitan town.

I disagree, I know plenty that like Doncic and Young both. From an ownership standpoint I'm pretty sure they'd wanna market Doncic over Trae for international appeal.

why would you draft Trae Young (which I am totally against) is Dennis is still on the team at the start of the draft. If we draft Young with Dennis still on the roster then we will not get anything worthwhile for Dennis. Man I hope that we are not drafting this guy. You give any average player the green light to shoot all they want to and will produce i.e Allen Iverson. We saw what this kid did against legitimate competition. Big Mistake.

I'm pretty sure we got a lottery pick for Jeff Teague (in his late 20's) with Dennis still on the roster. It's definitely possible to trade a 24 year old Dennis, his off the court issues may make it more difficult but not impossible. I'm fine with us getting Trae.

Sixers are trying to move up to get Doncic in the top 5 supposedly and this is whats being rumored as a offer so far.

#10 + #26 + Fultz.    I love me some Doncic but thats a pretty dang good offer honestly Fultz does have alot of potential.

You could realistically get  Fultz + #10 - Young and still have 19, 26, 30, and 34  to play around with and move up for someone else dropping.

Honestly I'd take that deal, you can do a ton with all those picks and Fultz could easily become something special.

True.  After Dwightmare Part 4 you would think they’d be looking for another (failed) public relations splash to go with the arena renovations in Porter Jr. or Young.

You acting like Doncic can't fit in the same category lol

None of the players are safe picks, they're all flawed.

I just hope more posters get that understanding, because regardless who we get they at least deserve some time to prove themselves before we all go overboard with the critical opinions.

If we pick anyone who busts, the whole site is going to be either raging or really disappointed.  Will be twice as bad if we passed on a superstar while doing so.

I’m just wondering why so many are so sure of themselves on a lot of these guys before anyone’s played at all. Draft night you really can’t judge anything.

I understand the concern but Darko was a bench player putting up something like 6 points and 7 rebounds.

I’m not saying he’d be darko in a sense that they got similar situations coming in from a basketball standpoint.

Idk, I’m just no so sure he’s as safe a bet as people act like he is. Especially the way we talk about him in comparison to others. Something just doesn’t feel so safe to me.

Hope all these trade down scenarios is if Doncic is picked by the Kings. I'm off the Schlenk wagon if he Drafts Doncic only to trade him away

You giving up on Schlenk before any of them have even played a game yet? Lol

  10. Does the fact that Doncic isn’t still in consideration for #1 not bother everyone on the Doncic hype train? They even got his coach. I’m not sure if I’m more sold on him than any of the other top prospects (excluding JJJ and maybe MPJ in comparison to the rest)

That's a lot to ask.   He will get coaching.  He will get good coaching.   But coaching can't get past the size and defense.   As far as CP3... CP3 has always been a good one on one defensive player.   Yes, he's small but the guy has fight.  Trae will have to show that he has fight.

I don't think I can really judge him having "fight" on defense from college, his role was too important on offense to even allow him to be THAT committed on D. I'm just saying his size won't be as significant of a problem as some make it out to be. It's more on effort than physical limitation.

CP wasn't always a good one on one defender, he racked up a lot of steals in college but he wasn't super aggressive on D. His team overall was bad defensively. He had better instincts than Trae does on D but it goes to show that size isn't the end all be all with defense for PGs.

  12. People had the same size complaints about Chris Paul and Trae is bigger than he was. Defensively he just has to want to get better, he'll have more energy because his offensive usage won't be as high. Turnover wise I think that was just a product of his insanely high usage, he had the ball more possessions than anyone. I think he'll be fine in the league as long as he has the right coaching.

You shouldn't be. Teams love the guys on their board or else they wouldn't be on their board.

I just don't know who I'd even want now. I'd be thrilled with any of the three of Doncic, Bamba or Trae. All for different reasons, I know Trae is probably the least lowest on most people's boards but he would make our team sooooo much more interesting to watch next year. It's a difficult choice really.

Your tenure as a gm in the league would be short-lived.  There's too many variables in this league to have such a narrow philosophy if you want to succeed.  Very few teams have built themselves into the position to be "win now" viable contenders.  Saying the Hawks should take this approach is just simply not living in reality.  Unfortunately, we are going to have to build through the draft first, get lucky with those picks, hopefully have competent coaching and ownership/management and only then will we be a destination to arrive in "win now" mode.

Completely agree with this. There are so many variables that are not controllable when building a team. Especially dealing with drafting players. You can do all the research you want but when they get into the league it's an entirely different ball game. There's no realistic guaranteed way to make your team a championship contender in one off-season. Takes a good amount of the right things just happening at the right time.

Just giving everyone the heads up, draft starts at #4.

Memphis could change the draft. No one wants to go there and they can't get the medical records for Doncic or Bamba.

Memphis is looking to move down or just trade the pick altogether for quality assets.

Dallas seems to be pretty set on taking JJJ or Carter Jr if Bamba or Doncic is off the board. Porter Jr didn't pass on their medicals. He could slide.

Chicago and Orlando are looking PG.

Cleveland is shopping the pick but they want Porter Jr if available.

Philly is open to moving the pick for Leonard but SAS wants more.

After that is a real crap shoot. Teams really trying to get into the 11-20 range.

So what exactly are we looking to do?
