Lol ya he seems a bit like a star guy vs a winning impact player but if we have the right pg, he can be useful for sure.

    Stat guy not star

I just think his skill level doesn't match his hype from his highlight plays but we'll see how it goes next year.

  2. I just think it's hard to take a player with a top 3 pick that has almost never been the best player on their team. JJJ wasn't the best til his senior year in high school. That's pretty much the most he's experienced being the focal point. He'll probably be solid in a few years but I just keep seeing Serge as what he becomes at best.

This is KB at his finest. Confident and wrong as ever.

KB coming into a job interview:

Interviewer: Welcome to SuperPCs, you are interviewing for our master Linux tech.

KB: Hello sir, Linux is trash. It's easier to use linux and everyone uses it, but no one uses Windows but i do and i know better because i am always right. Did you know 100 million people have Linux installed but only 100k use Windows and those 999,900 users are going off the hype of Linux. They don't know better like I do. Because I am always right.

I'm always out of likes when the funniest posts roll around. lol

So, you are ready for my onslaught against Travis "the tank idiot" Schlenk and Tony "I'm more interested in selling tickets than winning" Ressler if they take Bagley because he's the guy that will sell the most tickets for them?  My T3 is currently running a bit low post hemithyroidectomy, and I'm very much on the irritable side because of it.  I will rip Schlenk and Ressler apart if they take Bagley.

Yeah, I'm a solid 110% sure they won't care and also that it is not that serious. Knicks got ripped apart for drafting Kristaps but folks got over it pretty quickly.

They are very, very similar.  Both players do the majority of their work at the rim.  Neither player can defend a stationary chair.  Neither player can space the floor.  Neither player has great length.  They both rode the hype machine to their status in the respective drafts.

    All this is wrong

I don't want to go through 5 years of being the worst team in the NBA just to have a bunch of great lotto picks with no guarantee of your future. It worked out but if Embiid or Simmons has future injury problems how will Philly fans feel then. Any rebuild shouldn't take longer than 3 years if you look ahead and draft properly. You just need to identify the talent worth tanking for and commit to losing games.

And the Celtics we're right to take Tatum, he was the best player on the board. Had their been an equivalent big man available though I'd say they should have went with him. This year we likely have a choice between 2 centers a power forward and a maybe 2 guards. I'd say go center because as prospects they are not that far apart.

You realize that regardless of who you choose you still run the risk of going 5 years with a bottom of the rankings team. Contending for a championship takes a star presence, you can keep take the safe picks and build a team of solid players in their roles (which we’ve already done) but you’ll. Still most likely lose to teams with star players on them.

Here's the problem with this approach.  You can say this about any young player you take in this draft.  So, let's say the Hawks draft Marvin Bagley in this draft because of the perception that he is better than Collins, even though that perception is based completely on pre college hype rather than actual evidence.  Next year, Charles Bassey comes out, who is a far more skilled player and better defender than Marvin Bagley.  So, next year, are you taking Bassey because he is a better prospect?

At some point, you have to actually build a team.  People want to convince themselves that Collins is not really a great prospect at this point because he was drafted 19th.  If he had been drafted 5th, most wouldn't even consider replacing him with Bagley.

I agree with this completely. Collins has established himself as a future starter in the NBA at minimum. Taking Bagley when there are other players that fit would be minimizing somebody's potential. That's how you become the Sixers.

The Sixers are in pretty good shape right now though lol I wouldn’t say I don’t wanna be in their situation.

You don’t skip over a Jayson Tatum because you have a Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart.

JJJ can definitely block shots at a pro level.  With his length, timing and athleticism, that will translate very well.

That and his wide open jumpers are pretty much the only thing I can see translating for sure right now.

He’s just not a pick that’s really exciting honestly. He didn’t even average 20 points (around 15 unfortunately) in high school. It’d be disheartening to build with complimentary players before having anyone with potential to be a star.

  9. I’ll agree with the fact that Atlanta does need someone that’ll make games more fun to watch. Folks will come out to see Bagley, Doncic and Trae. All the others would be nice but if you weren’t a household name in college it takes a while to get any buzz in the league. Especially if you’re trying to get people to come watch how well our players can switch on defense.

I only ignore numbers that don't mean anything, like PPG, RPG, and other counting stats.  BPM is the most translatable advanced analytic.  PER rewards players for offense and doesn't take into account defensive impact.  Win Shares is a volume dependent stat.

An example.  The top 5 all time in BPM among college freshman are Anthony Davis, Karl Anthony Towns, Jaren Jackson Jr, Joel Embiid, and Nerlens Noel.  Noel is the only outlier in this group.  Outside of Jaren Jackson Jr, all were taken in the top 6 picks, and only Noel wasn't taken in the top 3.

So the numbers that literally happen right in front of your eyes in a game are the ones you ignore, but you also think that we shouldn’t ignore numbers...

It just seems weird that you’d blatantly ignore the eye test and look at one specific stat to justify who you like. The BPM debate is washed, we all know it doesn’t guarantee they’ll produce well in the league and it can deceive you, especially if a players minutes were limited.

My entire point was that you won’t win a championship without an elite offensive player and you changed the subject and still haven’t shown me otherwise.

When you ignore numbers, you get Andrew Wiggins and pass on Joel Embiid.

Speaking of ignoring numbers, you’ve been ignoring a good amount that I’ve thrown up. Any analytic explanation on why JJJ disappeared so often this season?

Also, does rebounding not count as bringing something to the table? Aside from scoring Bagley is REALLY good and that. And surprisingly JJJ is not.
