  1. The way the Hawks ended the season Is still how they are playing now. I think they thought they could just turn it on once the playoffs started. The Hawks are giving up triple digits to one of the worse scoring teams in the league. The Pacers averaged 94 points doing the regular season however, tonight they score 113 points
  2. I would not trade Josh Smith unless we can get a true Center -- If the Brooklyn Nets are actually interested as sources stated by Aldridge, thenwould they actually part with Brook Lopez or would the Memphis grizzlies part with Zach Randolph --- From a basketball logic standpoint both seem highly unlikely --- however, if those offers are out there Hawks you think would listen
  3. Why was Anthony Tolliver on the floor for 15 minutes and Ivan Johnson for 0. Devin and Teague lightning fast but defensive rotation slow all night
  4. Yes the vet minimum I know it is a slim shot but I think he may have a littleore than Damp and Collins
  5. If amnesty is used on Haywood should Hawks try getting him. Or are we set at Center with Al, Zaza, Collins and Dampier
  6. Not comparing talent with Thabeet was just looking at NBA movement --- I think Za can mix it up at Center with certain match ups -- of course Miami and OKC just went to the finals with out dominant Centers understsnding they have wing men that are top 5 in the NBA in LeBron Durant and Wade --- in fact back to the basket post play was almost completely absent in the finals. Maybe the Hawks should leave the ZaZ, Collins, Dampier combo as is and concentrate on slashers and outside shooters.
  7. Now that the Center Roulette has spun are there any bigs out there better than the Za Za, Collins, Dampier combo. Is Kaman worth a spin is a shot at Oden for the league minimum worth a spin. The NBA "wait for a super free agent" game is high risk just ask NY and the Nets waiting on LeBron not a good strategy. The Hawks can't sit and wait Ferry needs to get it now.
  8. I would consider that Dwight would only be attracted to Atlanta if some weighted pieces are kept. So to trade Horf and Josh would be way to much to offer. Dwight can walk at the end of the year and go anywhere he has an offer. Marvin Williams and Horf with a pick and pieces to make numbers work would be much more attractive and would instantly move the Hawks to one of the top 5 teams in the NBA. Dwight, Josh, Rad, JJ and Teague with Pargo, Green, Dampier, Tmac possibly on your bench. Hedo contract added is the major snag.
  9. You are right besides Dwight is not going to a team that has no pieces. He can hold out and go where he wants at the end of the year. If the Hawks want to be real players in the sweepstakes they have to have weight that is attractive to a free agent. Horf and Marvin Williams with maybe Hinrich and a pick (of course the numbers have to match). That would leave a Nucleus of JJ, Smoove, Teague and Dwight, that is formidable as tops in the east.
  10. Hawks are on National TV and of course they have at half time, not even been competitive. I can understand them not winning some games, but the no resistance play is super irritating for a veteran team. I would suggest a roster change, but I have seen far less talented teams be a lot more competitive. Hawks out hustled at every aspect of the game, as suspected the leadership on the floor is at question.
  11. You are right and I almost traveled to go to that game. The Hawks look like they were defeated before the game started. I heard that all four players for the hawks averaging double figures shot 13 for 41. Is that just a bad night or are we just not good against the tougher defenses. The Hawks are showing easily exploitable weaknesses.
  12. I have been thinking the same thing if somehow we could move Horford for Howard but hold on to Josh and Joe Hawks should at least try. Horford, Kirk and a first round draft pick may be more attractive than what other teams can offer, so it is worth an attempt. With Teague, Willie Green and Pargo we could afford to move Kirk. More importantly Joe, JSmoove and Howard would be tremendouus with Teague. That may be worth Luxury tax and salary cap penalties
  13. I agree it could end quickly -- however it appears we are in the top 5 in team assist and have 4 players averaging double figures in ppg if that continues --- that is winning basketball
  14. I think if they continue to play team ball especially with the assist numbers staying in the top 10 like they are currently, they will remain competitive against the NBA elite. We don't want to have to have Josh Smith score 25 every night to stay hot. Three or four players in double figures equals wins for the Hawks
  15. Hawks enjoy -- the only concern is we have wins against just two below, we see Philly this week. The Hawks are playing 10 guys per night which with the shortened season and the injuries the Hawks seemed well equipped for. Will still have Kirk coming back.
  16. Joe is due between 18 and 24 Million over the next 5 years (Like it or not - he is designated Atlanta's Star player). Joe is averaging this year 16.6 points, 2.4 assist and 3 rebounds. He is shooting an woeful 38% from the field. The shooting numbers are not as troublesome as are the numbers for other things done on the court, namely rebounding, steals and assist. It just appears that the fire to win from Joe looks at least questionable at this point?
  17. While last year showed some marginal improvement the question is always are the moves you made going to advance you further in the playoff. Then you see what is your main limiting factor as suggested here --- rebounding. I think the Hawks improvements last year were directly related to bigs playing big in the paint including Jason Collins offering some resistance to Dwight Howard and eliminating the Magic from the playoffs. Which leads me to your point about Al and Josh getting more rebounds. The fact is if JJ, TMac, Radmonovic and Williams can consistently hit the mid range shot then Josh and Howard can beast it up on the glass. It is nice to know in a pinch Al and Josh can hit a 15 footer but I agree the Hawks don't want that as there offensive set play. Hawks still need a 7 foot and in, post up, back to the basket player. Horford can do it against most centers if he commits to it but he is undersized.
  18. No, we are at best the same as last year regarding rebounding. I think if Tmac and Radmonovic are any semblance of there career, then we will be better in the half-court because of there ability to knock down open shots. Don't know if Bensons length will help on the board particularly because of his lack of weight in the post. I am more concerned about our shooting percent and half court execution, because of the way playoff basketball is. Running and open shots to the hoop are typically limited in the playoffs
  19. Teague is very athletic and has a good defensive skill set. Last year in the playoff I think what we saw is "you are it" with Kirk hurt. That was a good thing because with confidence suddenly he looked like a solid PG for the Hawks. I predict 12 points and 6 to 7 assist while starting ---- and about 8 ppg and 4 assist if he is backing Kirk.
  20. Lets just imagine T Mac stays healthy and he and Radmonovic come off the bench and average 20 ppg collectively ,shooting 45% from the field. Also while we are at it, lets say Jeff Teague plays like he did in the playoffs. Then Kirk gets back and is healthy. The question is are we better than every team in the East except Miami?? Can the Hawks with the fortune described above beat the re-tooled Knicks, and the Bulls with the addition of Rip Hamilton. If not then the Hawks need to be hard negotiating, if so then the Hawks are ready to ball. The Hawks were competitive into the second round, but as usual are flying way under the radar. I heard the pundits on ESPN mentioning the East playoff teams and they totally omitted the Hawks. That does not surprise me, but I hope the Hawks surprise them,.
  21. Horford or Smith will have to be in the equation to even get a sniff at CP3. With that said Hornets would clearly look at a combination of Josh Smith, draft picks and one of our PG to get CP3 . The Hawks should at least make an attempt at CP3. The fact is Paul will likely select the team that will best be competitive in the East, and most competitive for the NBA championship. So will CP, JJ, Marvin W, Horford and Za Za with Teague or Kirk, Benson, Papa, Magnum coming of the bench, compete with the Heat, Celtics, Mavericks or Lakers. I think we know the answer. Yikes!!
  22. Generally I don't disagree that amongst today's Centers Horford is pretty good. However it is indeed relative i.e. there was a period when Mutumbo, Ewing, Hakeem, Shaq, Mourning and David Robinson were all playing. We think of Centers and we are still looking for that Mutumbo type Center in Atlanta. They are very few left, and if you look at this years draft class most 6'11" or better players are listed as PF/C or C/PF like Horford. Point being true skilled Centers are hard to find, in fact Oden was touted as the next true skilled Center but he cant get healthy enough for us to know.
  23. Crawford asking for big money after hitting the "wall" this year in the playoffs and also aging may not make him as marketable as he thinks. You are right I would not let go of DeAndre if I were the Clippers ---- he is a restricted not unrestricted free agent. We likely cannot afford the matching price without a sign and trade deal of some type involving one of our quality players. We just cant afford to let go any valuable bigs to get a big except for Marvin Williams a small and a draft pick
