Braves have been letting fan favorites walk out the door for years because Anthopoulos takes a hard line stance on contract value regardless of who the name is.

He has managed to bet correctly and replace outgoing talent with incoming or internal replacements.

Nobody is calling the Braves cheap or a Mickey Mouse organization.

Why is it with the Hawks, we feel like being financially savvy is such a black-eye?

We knew from day one of the rebuild, the plan was never to be an early exit playoff treadmill team. That's what we did for 10 years straight. It makes no sense to spend big on mediocrity.

We can debate the causes of our stale results, and JC is by no means the sole reason we have under-performed; but at some point, you have to make tough decisions and cut loses where you can.

We were stuck in a no win situation. Nobody was biting on the assets we wanted to move, nobody was offering fair value in return, and time was not on our side as values continued to drop by running the same roster back.

If teams are not willing to play ball with us via trade, then yeah, opening up cap room to be able to sign talent outright may be the way to go.

I am a believer in JJ's ability, and this Gueye kid looks the part as another developmental big to fill JJ's role. Bey is also a safety net if JJ isn't ready yet. We have options, we will survive. Not to mention the possible domino transactions to come after this move.

I am looking forward to the next chapter for the Hawks.

I call the Braves cheap.  They got rid of Freeman, then Swanson.  Riley's next, then Acuna.

It won't be as big of an issue as it would be now if we have sent out a combo of JC + Capela or Hunter. But yes that is still an obstacle, I'm just pointing out what *could* still happen with this deal.

Most people recognize that JC and Capela was not a good fit.

Collins took PEDs and wrecked a season. Not only did he fail to apologize, he spent the following year yapping how he was a MAX player and All Star....

Oh, and getting on the mic in the middle of a season where he was the most disappointing player on one of the most disappointing teams in TEAM HISTORY, and getting upset at the crowd for there being too many opposing fans in the building. smdh

    Sayonara.. lol

Well, maybe we won't have listen to you bash him all day long anymore.  Select your next target.  BTW, tell us who you do like, and let us trash him for a change of pace.

Oh AH.  If you think they created that space just to up and spend it again, I got some beachfront property in Kansas to sell.  I'll give you the Squawk discount.

Given our track record, I say it is quite possible.  We overspend for mediocre talent, and Ressler will get booed out of the building if the whole thing was just to save him some money.  Plus if they give ridiculous overpayments for mediocre talent like OO & JJ, we'll dig ourselves deeper into a hole.

Gay - $6.4 million this season

    JC - 25.3 million

    Savings $18.9 Million

2023-24 Atlanta Hawks Salary Cap Totals

The Hawks are currently over the league salary cap. This means Cap Holds & Exceptions are NOT included in their Total Cap Allocations, and renouncing these figures will not afford them any cap space. The team may only sign outside players using any available exceptions or at league minimum salaries.

    CAP TYPE CAP TOTAL
    Active Roster Cap $151,604,314
    Cap Holds $7,914,566
    Total Cap Allocations

    $159,518,880

(One of those holds is Bufkin...other 2 are Holiday and Forrest).

This leaves us between $10 million and $6 million under the LT.

$8 million of the contracts are not guaranteed. $3.8 million of the holds you could flip a coin to if they're back.

FYI, let me state it again.  The focus in the offseason is finding, eliminating players who cannot defend 3 positions.  Theirs, up 1, down 1.  Finding/eliminating players who do not cause change of possession without a shot.

As for your last point, we know they're not going to trade Trae, so we're limited in that respect.

Wow.  The biggest salary dump I've ever seen.  Nothing but junk for a good, solid player and leader.  I don't want to hear any more from ownership about us being willing to be in the luxury tax.  This may be the worst ownership  ever.

I suspect the coaching change will change opinions here.  I won't argue against you.  I just think folks lose sight of the post-iRobot period which was them starting to figure out better ways to play, on both ends.  I'd caution folks from making definitive positions before seeing what the new iteration of the Hawks looks like next season.

Honest question: Do you think our players will actually listen and learn from Snyder, and put what they have learned into action? Are they physically, emotionally and intellectually capable of doing so? (i.e. are they too set in their ways?)

    3+6=9  9/82= .101   3/.101 = 29....you're both wrong.

Yay now I got to make people feel dumb....okay all better now.

FYI 29 is still 12 less than 41.  But since Trae was out 9 games and we were 38/35 when he played that means if he's played every game we would have been 42.7 and 40.3.....so technically a 13.7 game difference between Trae/noTrae....however the sample size is too small to draw any real conclusions.

    3/9 = 1/3.  1/3 x 82 = 27.3, so actually Akay was right.

I was calculating off the information presented; 3 wins, 5 losses.  However I am using my tablet, which has very small print. Did I misread a 6 as a 5?

We won 3 and lost 6 while Trae was out this season, extrapolate that to a whole season and you get about a 27 game win season.

The math disagrees with you bud :heat:😹

    😜

The math doesn't agree with you either. 3+5=8.  There are 82 games in a season.  Simple observation implies at least 30 wins, based on 80 games, perhaps 31 based on rounding with the 2 additional games.

Quin is pretty well-connected to Team USA administrators through Pop: probably had a three-way call with Kerr.  We gonna bash and trash him if Trae is bypassed without a public vote of support?

Maybe Quin doesn't want to risk Tree getting injured in essentially meaningless games.

  12. I know a lot of folks vehemently disagree with me, so I don't post much anymore, but I saw an article about Wembanyama, and it had some videos and pictures of other extremely tall centers.  I have always thought that Boban Marjanovich was a funny guy on his commercials, and that he is an old fashioned low post center, and had good offensive skills around the basket.  I watched a highlight video on him, and surprisingly, he could run a fast break, catch the ball around the foul line, and still dribble down the lane and dunk it.  I saw several other instances of him dunking the ball flat footed or on tiptoes.  I haven't had much of an opportunity to watch him play, and he might be a little slow on defense, but he can score in the low post and rebound.  I don't know his contract status, but I wouldn't expect that he has a big dollar contract.  It would be nice to have a 7'4" center who wasn't as skinny as a rail.  They don't seem to play him much in Dallas.  Maybe we could trade some of our spare part cheap roster players and a bag of chips and get him here.  He advertises for State Farm, and he'd be playing in State Farm Arena.

Okay, I'm finished.  Let the insults begin.  (I do think he is worth taking a look at.)

Not sure what you mean by this.  Dallas has the #10 and we have the #15, correct?  Color me skeptical given how garbage Bertans has been and the fact that he will be making $17M next year.  This saves us money but not THAT much.  It is hard to think we'd give up a starter for a guy playing 10.9 mpg last year to save a few dollars and move up 5 spots.

The way they've worded it, each team keeps its own draft pick, and we're swapping Bertans for Collins straight up.  We already have #15.  They already have #10.

You are literally just making stuff up now. So far in this thread you've said:

Trae doesn't pay attention in the huddle

    Trae is selfish and immature

No star wants to play with Trae

Trae pouts when asked to share the ball

Can't win a title with him

Not a single statement do you know to be true. Just making ish up. SMDH

Maybe you should pay attention to him in time outs. See for yourself.

Yes, it's perfectly normal when talked to about spreading the ball around to completely stop shooting altogether.  That's a temper tantrum whether you admit it or not.

Where are the stars lining up to play alongside Trae?  "Most overrated" doesn't sound too encouraging.

So far, getting further and further away from a title.

Doesn't sound like making things up to me.  Perhaps you should pay attention to things going on around our team.

You have guys who have fallen in love with perpetual mediocrity and Draft lottery parties talking about trading Trae for Siakim.  Siakim is no Centerpiece.  Ask Toronto. What has he done in Toronto since Kawhi left?  Yet... this is who some want to trade Trae for...   GTFOH.

I call this piece.... "Since you've been gone."..

    image.png

You only read what you want to read.   As I said, I am not gung ho on getting Siakam, I was just pointing out it would be nice if we could get someone of value for him.  If Trae shows that he can grow up and make this team a winner, I am happy to have him here.  However, he has shown a great deal of immaturity for someone of his experience level, and that has been a disappointment.  I hope he doesn't get Snyder fired.  Trae already doesn't pay attention in time out huddles, and it's only been a few weeks.

WHAT ABOUT THE LAST TWO GAMES?

Watchman, you're not watching.   You see only what you want to see.    You should rename yourself ... antiwatchman.     The fact that you can come back from watching him put up 35/15  with a 15:1 A/TO and say.. "Well what about the first two games"..   Says volumes... VOLUMES...

No, it just indicates you can't depend on him to be there when you need him.  Everybody was all over Murray last night, but he carried the team for the first two games.  Comprende?

We've never in the history of the Atlanta Hawks attracted a first tier superstar so I'm not banking on that but I do think the odds are better that some superstar clicks with Trae and wants to come than if we unload him and are relying on someone being excited about playing with Siakam.  DM was excited about playing with Trae when he came here.  (Unlike with Luka, we haven't had multiple All-Stars wanting to leave Atlanta while Trae was here.)

Not so fast.  We signed Julius Erving back in the 1970s.  The problem was we didn't own his draft rights, and the league ultimately nixed the signing.  Erving enjoyed playing with Maravich and Hudson in practice.

Getting Siakam was not a personal goal of mine, I just saw it as an opportunity to unload Trae and get a talented player in return instead of a bunch of mediocre players to make the salaries match.
