    I don't think the Hawks have played bad defense under Woodson, but like with the offense, it was of the one-on-one variety. It was just athletes making plays. The Hawks lacked an overall team defense concept which was good enough for the regular season but really got exposed in the playoffs by teams like Orlando that had real offenses.

    Isn't being a defensive assistant under Larry Brown like being a defensive assistant under Bill Belichick? The guy at the top is the one running the defense.

    Has the entire rest of the league been scared off by Avery for the last two years, too?

    When you hit a home run with a player in the draft, you don't need to re-build until that guy leaves or gets too old. As long as LA has Bryant, Utah has Williams, Boston has Pierce/Rondo, San Antonio has Duncan, etc., they're going to at the least be pretty good. The Hawks missed their chances at home runs in the draft and the good years only hit doubles and maybe a triple or two.

    There has to be a really good reason why a coach with as good of record as Johnson has been unemployed for going on two years.

    The team has maximized its potential as it is currently constructed. So you either keep trotting out the same team and hope they miraculously get better than everything they've ever shown, or you start taking it apart and try to put together a new team that can take it to the next level.

    That's why I said he's a 3.5. He likewise doesn't have the post game of a true PF.

    I don't see Josh Smith as a true PF. He's more like a 3.5, a bulky SF who can't shoot, like Shawn Marion.
