I understand but why not just trade away Murray instead and put Bogi back in the starting lineup?

Murray may be more talented than Bogi overall but Bogi fits Quinn’s system better.

i get that Bogi is injury prone but I don’t believe health is the only reason he’s having such a great season. He’s also playing this well because he simply just fits this whole scheme better than anyone else on the team. Nate didn’t know how to use Bogi and now that we have a coach who does, Bogi is flourishing.

No one else wants to admit it but Bogi is the better offensive two guard in Atlanta not Murray.

If we do trade Bogi , we need to package him with Hunter or CC and actually get back players who can make real impact but I would rather trade Murray since we aren’t getting what we traded for out of him unfortunately.

It’s odd to me because Murray just isn’t making the impact under Quinn I expected from him. I love that he took a paycut to stay but something is missing.

This is the way. I would trade whoever has more value for some defensive help and put the other one at the starting 2.

Despite this we're .500 and were actually better before JJ went out.  Defense that bad should be a bottom feeder team not mid pack.  So i'd say the glass is half full.    ?

We just need to find SOME way to get our defense respectable. Trae ain't going anywhere, so that means between Murray, Bey, Bogi we need some serious upgrades defensively

Delon should be a LOT cheaper than Caruso so that would be my bias unless the price for Caruso is overstated.

No argument that Bridges would seem to be a better fit.  I've always viewed him as what I hope Hunter becomes (back when he wasn't as prolific of a scorer).

Agreed on the first point. RN I see our weakest links defensively as Murray and Bey. Most of the others aren't great either, but Young and Bogi are too good offensively.. Hunter would be better if he was our #2 defender on the perimeter and/or had more help around him.

We need a versatile defensive minded combo guard as a backup. Aka bring back Delon. Offensively, he will do better in this new scheme

We could use another big wing who can guard 1,2, 3, and big wings.

Elite offensive center or close with true size is probably the biggest need.

I'm good with Delon or Caruso.

What are thoughts on this: Murray + 2ish assets for Mikal Bridges? I think for us to upgrade our defense in a playoff sustainable way, unfortunately one of Young or Murray will have to go and Young's upside is too high.

While an injury risk, Caruso is really good.  Wasn't the rumor last year that the price on him was sky high?

I think it was. He's also close to 30. But a really great POA defender would go a long way for us and the Bulls are mediocrity personified.

    But mainly....

We are a fast breaking team..

Our tempo is our superpower.  We are 6+ points better than we were under Nate/Prunty.  We no longer pick up the ball, we're off and running.  We don't give defenses a chance to set up.  We're not trying to score against their best defense.   So it improves our 2 ball.  It improves our scoring efficiency.   It improves our assists.

This is the key. When we get on the break we look fantastic, when we don't our offense slows down a little bit. It starts with Trae + JJ but Murray, Capela, Bogi, Hunter have gotten out and run some too.

Gobert was absolutely in his prime, Mitchell too.  But outside of Gobert, that lineup is waaayyyyy too weak defensively to make it deep into the playoffs.  The roster construction was just a touch off -- needed Marcus Smart type guard and better wing defenders and I think they could have made serious noise

I think you could say the same about us. I think we're putting more effort in but I still worry about our defense.

I wouldn't say they had prime Mike Conley. But they definitely had the others in their prime. They had Mike Conley like we had Mike Bibby

True, he was older than I remembered. On paper we have more talent than they did but we need somebody outside of Trae/Murray to really pop more than "good roleplayer."

Yuk I thought we were far more deep than those teams, not saying I really looked, just from what I am reading here or there.

Prime Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, DPOY Gobert, Bojan Bogdanovic is a very good top 4, just not quite championship level. I'd say it's comparable to Trae, Murray, and whoever our next 2 are.

I always knocked Quin because the Jazz were regular season heros.  But some of that, or a lot is on Mitchell and Gobert.  They have weaknesses that can get exploited in the postseason.   We have a guy who's proven to be a really good postseason performer in the clutch. Hopefully more than one.

Did they over-achieve in the RS or under-achieve in the PS based on their talent? I think they had 2nd round talent but won games like a finals contender. Talent wise we're comparable to that Jazz squad. We need one more star, either from within or outside.

We've been there before. This franchise has not shown that it can get to the next level. I'm not going to even go on to rip the players in a way that I might have years ago.

They have lost talent. You have what was a largely mediocre season year.... What do you do in response? You lose talent and do lateral moves. They wait too long to trade Collins. They did nothing notable to make this roster better following that.

It boiled down to "We like our young guys".

Ok, but... There is nothing to suggest that the folks at the top are determined to get to the next level.

The current players and the coaching staff are capable of going out there and doing better than last year, but they also got to overcome ho-hum ownership and management.

I respect you stating your position with reason. That may sound condescending lol but you don't sound like you're hating.
