This is always a simplistic and silly take.

I've seen mediocre to mid-level from this team several times before. What's exciting about it?

There's nothing special about winning 45-50 games and getting thrown out in the first or second round. This franchise isn't trying to win a title. It's the same franchise with the same kind of management it has always had. Ressler is business as usual, management is boneheaded, and the roster is extremely flawed. Same shit, different year.

Winning 50 games means our assets are more valuable and we're a more attractive destination. I think the roster is "flawed" to some degree but it's more lack of top level talent than lack of versatility unless JJ/OO/Griffin pops.

Why do you feel management is boneheaded? I've been impressed with Fields

I think the Hawks will be doing another Collins or Huerter style move before the beginning of next season.  If you keep showing everybody that you'll do just about anything to avoid paying the tax, then teams will continue to low ball you in trade discussions because they know you're desperate to get off committed money.

As is I think Bey is probably the casualty unless we're good enough to go into the tax. Without Bey, we're about this same spot next year.

Clearly but he doesn't seem to want that to be his role, which is what the issue in TOR is.  IIUC

We've seen Snyder change up some folks games already, maybe he can work his magic with OG. Hell, maybe he can work it with Hunter and it's moot.

As for some other folks to keep an eye on due to their teams cap situation: Brandon Ingram, Jaden McDaniels. Either would be very nice.

  4. For OG? Sure. Getting OG won't be easy though. He is a free agent next year, so dealing Hunter/Capela for quality expiring (Hield is interesting) I could get behind.

I think there's a reasonable chance JJ+OO is a very high level 4/5 combo as soon as this year if they play to their defensive potential. Offensively they're very strong, defensively they've got all the tools

  5. Don't know if this has been said yet, but I think CC is professional enough to come off the bench IF OO earns it (I'm not totally convinced he has tbh, his defense needs to be good). CC is cheap enough in the new cap to be a bench player and good enough we shouldn't just dump him.

  6. Quick thoughts:

    1. Only a couple of shots I didn't like (Trae iso and Murray midranger)

    2. Better ball movement

    3. BIG believer in Bufkin

    4. Griffin missed some bunnies but looked goodb I thought

    5. Okongwu three looked good, less impressed by his defense

    6. Trae was a little sloppy but overall good

    7. Love all the 3s!

The concern falls apart once we dismiss ignorant people as being irrelevant.

Same idea, said the other way, the concern only exists because we give ignorant people some status as being relevant.

This is ironically pretty ignorant @sturt. @AHF is being quite lenient. As @JeffS17 said it ain't up to you and it doesn't take a high school English essay to get the point.

  8. Picked AJ because I see some star upside there. Not sure JJ has that due to less scoring ability, HOWEVER I'm very high on JJ as a super role player. Aaron Gordon was a good comp above, or Batum maybe.

@Sothron @NBASupes Do you know if DJM committed to signing an extension during the trade discussions (for DJM from the Spurs) or was this decided after the season? It seems reasonable that they had this commitment before which is why they gave such a big haul for him.

Honestly, I'd imagine it happened this offseason after seeing what some other players were getting. Based off this offseason I'd be surprised if he got the full $40M next year.

So that is the reason why they held up the Collins trade for or it was something else but regardless it was a master play by the FO (It still might not happen but if it does, I be happy about it)

    @TheFuzz

That would be a negative there, because of Siakam does, he will get a better deal since he is good wing player that is very good in defense.

On the money front? You're probably right but KAT's already at $50M a year.

With Siakam, we was still gonna have Capela but Toronto wanted Okongwu and that was a fk no for Atlanta. Griffin and Okongwu have been major stopping points for Atlanta. Those two Atlanta wants to keep long term. JJ as well but more open on him than JJ or OO.

Think I agree with the Hawks on this one. I like all 4 of our young 1st round picks tbh and would rather deal our future picks for an upgrade somewhere.

Me KAT but that's due to the what we would lose in a trade than anything. I also think KAT is a better fit but Siakam is clearly the better player

KAT's shooting vs Siakam's defense. I think in the playoffs I like Siakam+Okongwu's 2 way ability on the front line over Towns+Okongwu. I also think there's a chance Siakam ends up commanding less money than KAT...

I've been thru my share of players I didn't want, but once you put on the 'Hawks' - I'm rooting for success.

    Didn't want Dwight

    Didn't want Capela

! Capela has become one of my fave Hawks of recent vintage. Dude is a class act and a baller!
