That will put us at the head of the pack and in great position to sign guys to long-term contract steals.  It will also make some teams desperate to unload players to avoid the luxury tax.   I'm ok with that scenario purely for the Hawks.

True, but it still limits our flexibility. Rather than taking on salary AND getting a player we only get to do one.

I'd also be incredibly surprised if they didn't waive the luxury tax or mitigate it in some way, given that this was (mostly) out of teams control.

That's summer league. I said for most Hawks including John. I remember one for Prince

You were saying Bembry showed potential to be a summer league superstar?

Look, I can see a world where you're right about Toppin, I don't think he's a walking bust like Stanley Johnson, RJ Barrett, DeAndre Ayton, etc, but we're all wrong sometimes. I thought Cody Zeller was gonna be a superstar

Yes, there is. I always use it too. I know what I post and what i say. That's why its impossible to put words in my mouth

Wanna take a look at Jaybirds post?

Saw some gems about Bembry's star potential too when I looked earlier

We heard this with Steph, Ja, Damian and they played against lesser opponents than Toppin. Obi been productive no matter the opponent. A-10 bigs can defend as well as anyone. Their offense is more limited than the big conferences but Obi dominated everyone equally.

    Prove it!

How's the search feature on this thing?

Toppin is going to be an offensive monster in the league regardless where he goes. Defensively, yeah, not so much. John limited man but wants to be paid like a max cat, I have zero interest in that. Guys like him, Zack LaVine, Aaron Gordon to me aren't it for me. This generation impact version of Josh Smith, Ben Gordon, and Al Jefferson. You might love it and convinced about it but not me. Ya'll always eventually come around on the shit I see years early anyway.

Like Schröder having superstar potential 😉? I do see that concern with Collins, don't think he's a max dude. Massively disagree on Toppin

Everyone says toppin is bad defensively.   Personally, I can't definitively say he's not Derrick William's or Thomas Robinson.

I think Toppin has more skill than Robinson, but his concerns are big

Indeed. We need to be built tough. It’s like we have all the pretty pieces like the NFL team like the QB in Trae the wideout in Cam the D back in Hunter the kicker 🦵 in Huerter ( 😐 sorry he’s the closest Swedish looking guy)and the linebacker in JC. We need OL and DL.

AYYYYYEEEE @kg01 gimme your friends list of bodyguards I’m starting up a cloob (club)! I want GIRTH AND POWER AND POWER AND GIRTH!!!!

ps @kg01 and @hazer (the same person..what’s it like to have a burner 🤔) seriously we want a wall!

    FA target: TREZ

    Draft target: GWU

Lol on Swedish looking guy. How about we just draft Okungwu so I don't have to worry about Trez.

The fear is real on defense. The difference is the fit with Capela is ideal for Toppin on both ends but for not so much for Collins.

Also Toppin is just a much much better offensive talent than John. It's like comparing Steph on offense to Kyle Korver.

Collins and Toppin are the same age, and it's not like Toppin was playing great competition. Toppin shows FLASHES of passing, he's hit threes on low volume and he's shown ok footwork playing against folks who won't sniff a professional league.

Collins just dropped 20/10 on 65% TS in the NBA. Toppin is a hall of famer if he's THAT much better than Collins. Collins deserves more respect around here.

  11. More than happy with Okungwu because I think his long term upside is very high, but I worry he won't get enough playing time with the current roster. If we get Okungwu, I think we should look to trade Dedmon

I also don't buy Toppin at all. D looks weak and athleticism overrated

I don't wanna give that dude clicks.  Did he at least propose a potential deal?

Lemme guess.  Something like Ntilikina and 2 future 2nds for Trae and Reddish?

"Hawks get the defensive piece they need to pair with John Collins and Kevin Heurter plus the added bonus of 2, count 'em, 2 chances to find a diamond in the rough.  Blah, blah, blah ..."

I think there is literally no deal the Knicks could offer to make us give up Trae. Their best prospect is probably Robinson, a limited C. Inb4 Knicks tell me that RJ "StraightBustBecauseICantShootDefendOrFinishDueToMyLackOfSkillAndAthleticism" Barrett is worth Trae alone

Don’t fkin tease me. CWebb is a fav of mine. He brought schwaaag to the game. He made me wear long shorts 🩳 and strut high.

Can Toppin be the Karl Malone to our Stockton Trae?

Do we not already have our Malone to Traes Stockton?

It wouldn’t work as Ben and Trae need the ball to be effective

I think for this team to truly unlock its potential Trae needs to get better without the ball. If that's not in the cards for him, you're probably right.

The impact he has on the game was my comparison more than attributes and traits describing his game. I live in the Bay Area, I know what Draymond Green did and does. Everything you wrote is correct but I’m describing more the impact he has on the game.

In the series vs OKC Draymond got away with punking Adams and making him go away like the mob does with people...Trez is the same. He may not be the best basketball player out there, but he will scratch, claw, fight to get the W.

I guess thats where I disagree. I don't think Harrell is in the same world as Draymond impact wise. Again, fine player, but I'm not breaking the bank for him. If he's cheaper than the other available options, sure

Yes sir! Plus just the way that Trae was a fit for the city of Atlanta, Trez is as well. He represents the underdog who fights like a dirty dog 🐕 in the street nightly because he knows someone is gunning for his job if he isn’t busting his butt. Trez is that prototype guy. He’s a throwback. He’s the guy who tips tips tips dives and grabs the ball and wins the game.

I hated Draymond Green I won’t lie everyone knows I’m a scrubs hater and in particular Draymond is just a guy who is easy to hate if he’s not on your squad, but he was the glue to the team.

Schlenk drafted Draymond. You don’t think Trez reminds him of Dray? 🤔

Let the Trae n Trez show begin!

Old school : Stockton to Malone

New School : Trae to Trez (I can see the T shirts now)

Ps I still love John, my love for him hasn’t wavered by any means. I like the addition of Capela as well. We need to get deep. Deep teams win. Let’s built a brand of basketball 🏀 specific to us.

Trez and Draymond are very, very different players. Draymond is an excellent passer, Trez is not. Draymond is one of the best defenders ever, Trez is OK. Draymond is an abhorrent finisher, Trez is one of the best in the league.

Again, Trez is a solid player, I'd take him if he's like $10-12M. $15-20M? Ain't happening. Quote me on it

Which of these 10 would you sign?

    1. Christian Wood, Detroit

    2. Michael Carter-Williams, Orlando

    3. Derrick Jones, Jr., Miami

    4. Chris Boucher, Toronto

    5. De’Anthony Melton, Memphis

    6. Luguentz Dort, Oklahoma City 2-way

    7. Josh Jackson, Memphis

    8. Jakob Poeltl, San Antonio

    9. Dario Saric, Phoenix

    10. John Henson, Detroit

Melton and Saric are interesting. Wood and Derrick Jones too.

    How? Can you further explain?

If you see him as just a solid player, you probably don't value him.

Our biggest need is quality impact players (at least one since Capela trade) defense, and shooting. We critically need all three.

He helps two of three. Shooting is just going to be something we have to improve internally. The guys available are too one wayish

I don't like his hips or feet on D. He's an OK shot blocker, OK rebounder. I guess I don't see anything that's a plus. I'd take him if the price isn't super high, but I saw someone saying like $20M for the dude. No way on that front. He's an OK player. He's a legitimately great play finisher, but we've already got Collins and Capela. I'd rather aim higher, while also addressing our weaknesses, because we've got big time weaknesses.

  19. 2 hours ago, NBASupes said:

How is Harrell redundant? He's the only one of three who plays both ends. Bertrans defense is awful and Collins defense is one of the worse of starting PFs in the association. Considering we got Trae Young, that's the redundancy I want no part of

I'm not a huge believer in his defense. Not awful, certainly not great

Again, solid player, but I look at it this way: our biggest needs are shooting, defense and playmaking. IMO, he helps with none of those.

It's a good class in general. Just not one that will pay dividends as rookies. But in three to four years, this class can be considered a good one. Its top heavy at most positions and PG strong.

There is a lot more potential 3&D wings this year than last

I agree this draft is underrated, though I don't think Okoro would be my pick. I like him but that shot really scares me. Problem is, I'm not sure who the pick is. This draft is underrated in that all of the prospects are flawed, but there's a lot to like about each of them. Just a question of if they fix those big flaws to reach a high upside, or are just guys.

I'm leaning Hayes or Anthony right now I think. Maybe Deni? Okungwu? Nesmith? Vassell? Hell, Okoro ain't bad. Then there's Edward's too. I could talk myself into Lamelo.

    Hope Schlenk gets it right

I like him. Do you think his best season was behind him. He was crazy on. Can his shooting percentages get better? He’s enticing but I feel like putting a ceiling on him. Probably shouldn’t.

Last year is probably the ceiling but if he shoots like 38%, well ... let's just say thats better than Turner and Bembry

  22. Harrell is a good player but redundant IMO w/ Collins and Capela already on the roster. We need shooting and defense on the worst way and he helps with neither

I'd rather get Bertans if we want a backup 4, he can shoot at least
