Martin also looks fluid... JJ will have to come in and prove himself.   The bar has been raised.   We need JJ to be able to play big.  If not, we have to get somebody.   Frank aint it...  That's our biggest need right now.. size and defense.   We also could do better on perimeter defense but that will come.

Even with JJ we need another big. Frank can't play and we'll need all hands on deck if we see Philly or the Cavs in the playoffs this year.

I don't think Griffin is in the 1st 8. I think even Martin is ahead of him in the rotation at the moment.

I hope he's just not ready to play at the moment instead of being buried in the rotation. Griffin is definely not a top 8 player for us, but his skillset is useful off the bench if Bogi isn't playing. I like Martin's game from summer league, but Griffin's shooting abilty can be a difference maker.

Nate indicated that the top 8 needs to play some minutes together , he projected 24 ish minutes.

Griffin should be getting minutes with them. Bogi's availability may be an ongoing problem for us this season and Griffin is potentially our best option to replace his shooting in the lineup. He should be getting minutes in these preseason game to see what he can and can't do.

    No Griffin again. Damn

I pray injuries aren't a major problem for Griffin moving forward. They're the reason Griffin was available for us at #16, but I'd hate for them to derail his career.

Yo mods it’s dope af I can see literally all of my posts in the archives here but do you all have access to Lethal’s game threads?  If so I’d appreciate it if you could pull up February 21, 2010.

I looked, but I don't think his game threads go that far back.

I think your ">" are facing the wrong way.

Because as presented you are saying Kevin Huerter is better than Murray.

Alligator always eats the bigger amount.

Hurter < Murray - Big Upgrade?

They're using ">" as an arrow, not making a greater than or lesser than comparison. I gues "->" or "→" would be clearer.

The way i look at it is

Huerter > Murray - big upgrade

Bogi still the same and hopefully not dealing with knee all year +

Delon i agree is a loss but having Murray starting and playing when Trae isn't should mitigate that.  Rotations of Trae/Murray, Murray/Bogi, Trae/Bogi are really solid

Gallo > Harkless/Frank - yeah no matter what this is a big loss but if JC/Capela stay healthy that will help.  More minutes from OO and JJ should also help a lot.

    Lou/TLC/Dieng > Holiday/Holiday/Frank is an upgrade

I guess my concerns have more to do with how we're gonna mitigate any injuries. If Bogi is out, now we're basically relying on J. Holiday and Griffin to provide any shooting coming off the bench. It's not impossible JJ gets comfortable and shoots well this season, but I'm not expecting that from him. Tyrese Martin may prove a useful end of the bench option for us, but I do think overall our bench is lacking. Fully healthy we won't have an issue, but if anybody goes down, I think we're gonna be in trouble.

Imagine Hunter is out, we've got no serious wing defense behind him outside of a 33 year old Holiday. I expect Griffin to need to be hidden on defense until he shows some progression. Murray is a great defender obviously, but he can only guard one player. We are weaker in this area compared to where we started last year where we had Huerter and Reddish as options. Like I said, Griffin and JJ could be the solution to the issues I'm pointing out, but that's asking a lot.

I'd also say that there were a bunch of us on here who wanted to do two things this summer.   Get a better starting wing and upgrade the vets on the bench.   I'd say mission accomplished.   It will be interesting to see if this was enough.

I think our bench got significantly worse. Losing Delon and replacing him with A. Holiday is a major downgrade, Gallo to Harkless is a downgrade and J. Holiday is a worse option than Huerter. I don't it'll tank our season, but I do think we'll have a worse performing bench if our we can't get major contributions from Griffin and Johnson.

Wouldn't that have the same effect as the old school Bird rules?

I mean, it made sense that a team could go over the cap (without penalty) to resign their own FAs.

The only issue is when a player who sign a 2 year deal with a team, get his Bird rights and then take Max pay.

With what I'm imagining, you can't give two players the same exception. So you can attract one superstar with the exception, but if you already had a superstar on your team, he could leave to become another team's designated player. So for example, the Celtics would eventually have to lose one of Tatum or Brown because both players are good enough to be someone's designated player.

You should not be able to stand 3 all-nba players on a team through FA.  If they could get their true market value, each would be a team’s franchise player.  Instead, LeBron gets paid the same as other max players of the same age like past max deals for Andrew Wiggins.  GS has added multiple max players during their run because of these caps.  KD would have been offered more like 50M as one of the best 3 players in the game when he joined GS.  They only could add him (without him making a dramatic sacrifice) because of the maximum salary.

Max salaries are there to inflate the salaries of the middle class players and to allow for the stacking of super teams.  The first is an admirable goal from a socialist kind of philosophy but the latter is a blight on the game.

Miami would have paid Wade big.

Cleveland would have paid LeBron big.

Toronto would have paid Bosh big.

But they can’t so the players all get together without giving up anything consequential.  Let the big dogs eat and it will make the league much more competitive, imo, because talent will be more evenly distributed.

I think the answer is to create a new player exception that would give players more money than the max contract they're eligble for, with a fraction of the cap hit. Details would have to be hashed out, but if every team could only give the exception to one player at a time, it would effectively prevent superstars from teaming up, unless a player is willing to sacrifice and leave a lot of money on the table.

All Offseason long, there has been a lot of complaining about Nate not letting rookies play (even though nobody paid attention to the details)...

    Here's the question..

If JJ gets Gallo's old minutes and he's very good...  Say 12/7/1.4 in 16 mpg...

Would you continue complaining that Nate was holding him back last year?

    or

Would you praise Nate for allowing JJ to come up through the G-League system?

If JJ puts up numbers that good in 16 minutes, I'll be cussing the coach out for not figuring out how to get him on the court for 30+. If he's healthy, I do think JJ will be productive when given a chance.

Ummm, you don't blame a traditional center for filing his role that displaces a non-traditional PF.

As was posted here previously, John is a misfit of skills for his position which makes it difficult to put players around him to maximize his strengths.

There is nobody to "blame" those are just the cold hard facts.

JC is a traditional PF. Teams just don't play through their bigs in the NBA through constant post ups anymore. JC not being maximized doesn't mean he's a bad fit on this team though. He's a better option than most PFs would be. So long as we have limited offensive centers, Collins sacrificing makes us a stronger team.

Reports are that the Nets aren't willing to trade Simmons so if that happens, we are likely looking at the Hawks with the idea that they make no major moves. Maybe signing Kaba and Martin

Wouldn't they have to move Simmons in order to acquire another designated rookie max contract? If they're serious about trading KD for the best deal possible, SImmons would have to be available if someone like Adebayo was a possible acquisition.

What would yall do if ATL used the full mid-level on Miles Bridges? In now way am I saying what he did was acceptable, but everyone is entitled to a second chance. It would take a huge set of balls to pull it off knowing he is going to miss at least half the season. He would have to be willing to grow as an individual and work on his tainted image

He shouldn't be playing for anybody this season. He needs to sit down and really focus on what he wants out of life, and that's if his case can somehow be resolved without jail time. I'm sure he'll get another chance at some point, but its too soon for anybody to be trying to sign him.

Bogi can't and won't start healthy..aj is a ???..Jalen maybe if he gets to play..OO can't..Collins can help if he not traded..hunter better step up..scubs we got cant

Griffin is coming in as an elite shooter from college. The question for him is can he stay healthy and can he avoided getting abused defensively. JJ helps us here because he can guard some wings while Griffin can hold is own agaist weaker PFs. With the moves we've made so far, Griffin's defense shouldn't be as big of an issue now that he doesn't have to primarily match up any teams #1 scoring threat whenever he's on the court.

Kev will be missed, but his offense is replaceable if other guys step up.
