@Diesel I thought Dwight was good? I thought we need to feed him? I thought he was an excellent player still? Dude, he's mediocre. Al Jefferson status, his rebounding ain't even impactful. He get those Minnesota Kevin Love rebounds.

I just think he's a bad fit offensively/defensively in today's NBA. It's no different than Greg Monroe, Kanter etc having to come off the bench dominating 2nd string centers.

Millsap is the Hawks' best option at C.

    I'm partially with you.

Dwight is absolutely a bad match with Dennis. Dennis is a maestro in the PnR and PnP. Dwight plays neither one moreover he's just glued to the paint and doesn't have the best set of hands. Horford was the perfect match with Dennis considering to maximise Dennis efficiency.  He needs someone who's setting a good screen who is able to hit a pull up j and has good hands (like Millsap too).

Right. He was. Him and Pero are missed. I see Horford is doing wonders for IT now. ATL's best option now is to have Dwight come off the bench (unless a non-stretch center starts) and start Millsap at C and Ersan at PF.

To me honestly he's in no way worse than Teague nor about half of the starting pgs in the league. Hes no top tier pg that's for sure. But give him time. With his skillset a necessary thing is maturity. And he lacking in that department big time.

I think he's right what he should be in his first starting season. Could've pan out way worse.

Bud didn't do a good job surrounding Dennis the talent to succeed. Dennis need shooters all around him, not guys like Dwight.

I understand what you're saying.   He has the chance to be what Steve Kerr is to the Bulls.   I'm happy for him but the further we get from the trade the more it doesn't make sense.   I think it's another sign that mgt is having some big discussions/disagreements on direction.   But it was at a minimum a hasty trade.   I'm sure we could have gotten more had we waited, but the reality is that Korver is still a top 3 shooter in the league and the fact that we thought we couldn't use him or didn't need him is puzzling.   The only rational explanation is that Bud actually believed that Dunleavey is the better player.

I don't fault ATL trading him. He would have walked for nothing. I just hate they traded him to CLE, a team ATL couldn't beat in the playoffs. Atleast trade him to the West.

We actually fought through screens and defended the 3pt line.

That's how you beat the Celtics: crowd IT and force other players to make plays, guard the 3 and pound them inside.

I recall Raptors exposed that last week. They'll be okay when Bradley returns, can't count on him to stay healthy though.

Not going harder after Butler may backfire on them in the playoffs.

It's gone downhill because of Ferry and his "flexible" contracts which left us with no Bird rights and his poor drafting.

I agree we need a real GM, not Chillcox, but his (and by extension Budz') failings as front officemen are not an indication that Ferry walked on water.

    It's 2 separate things.

Finally somebody talking sense. I could imagine it's hard for him to build a team to win now then think about flexibility for the future.

Big discussion this weekend bout Danny Ferry - ATL media thinks he is really missed and we are not getting lots of things done that we used to, his connections/networking way he dealt with things etc, is sorely missed.  I cant really argue against that anymore, ppl wanted him gone now he is and we are paying for it,

People overrate Ferry. If he drafted better before he left, ATL would be in a better position long term than it is right now.

Ehh I look at it more as Budcox traded away a 2nd round draft pick and swapped a ~50th pick for the 60th pick in order to get ~2months worth of Ilyasova. In a vacuum, this is a decent trade, but looking at the grand scheme of things it doesn't really do much in my opinion. I was in favor of trading Korver for a 2019 first - thought that was a great return for him. That said.... Say we actually did land PG13 - I think Korver would have been super valuable for us, but landing him was highly improbable. I also don't think we have that much flexibility this coming offseason if the #1 goal is to resign Millsap. My judgment is more based on the previous offseason and previous seasons, not this trade deadline. I didn't think there was much they could do as well unless they did a blockbuster trade and I am glad to hear they at least tried. I am also glad they didn't give away the BKN 2nd round pick for a rental. I know we aren't a lottery team. That's not what I was saying. Was just saying that it's hard to raise ticket prices on fans, while going through a rebuild - which may or may not be a factor in how the front office is constructing the team (who knows...).

A late 1st in 2019 isn't really anything special. Millsap is too expensive for ATL. They should have got something for him.

It's not really going to matter, Hawks aren't even that good in attendance.

Budcox just rid the Hawks of 2 empty players/contracts who were collecting splinters and cashing checks, rid the Hawks of an aging and no-longer-effective 3zus (who'll be back as a coach, count on it), went aggressively after PG13 and Jimmy Butler (the best available at our position of need), and kept the Hawks flexible for any buyout surprises and pre-draft/draft night deals. Not sure that they could've done any better than that honestly. Hawks are 2 1/2 games out of 3rd in the East, not really a potential lottery team. Although if we sputter in this 2nd half, if it was me I'd play the rooks and shoot for the bottom and snag that lottery pick.

Mark Bradley is a joke, btw.....

Should have traded Millsap for assets.

I like Bud the coach (though I get irritated that he doesn't give our rookies a chance), but I am still undecided on Budcox. I am definitely leaning against them after the questionable offseason we had this past year, but am trying to reserve my full judgment for this coming offseason. I am also very curious if ownership is having any influence in basketball decisions. With the crazy season ticket prices that were recently announced, it is hard to get fans to come and watch a potential lottery team.

I'd assume Ressler was behind Bud going after George/Butler.

  11. I expect us to beat MIA and ORL this weekend, but can we beat BOS on Monday?

Beating BOS would a statement win especially after the last game where Baze is looking like a fool guarding IT on the last shot and Dennis sitting on the bench during the 4th like Teague and whining to the media talking about IT talking about his mom.

This season depends on Schröder. I think he is capable of taking it to another level.

Random thought for the offseason. Are we really planning on locking up THJ and having him and baze lock up 35 million of our cap when they play the same position? I was hoping to see one of them moved (preferably baze) this deadline.

It looks like. Baze is a 3 and TH is a 2 though. I think Thabo is gone after this season so Prince would get more minutes and Hawks can't afford to keep him.

I guess best case got to hope with Hardaway going into the offseason as starter he could average 20+ points a game while Millsap (if he stays) and Dwight takes a step back.

My gut is telling me that we are going to the ECF.  I think that with these last 26 games were are going to go 18-8. remember we haven't played our best ball yet.  I think that the teams ahead of us have peaked already. Go Hawks!!!!!:MooseGoggles:

How do you guys  honestly feel going forward?

I don't feel any better. Best case 2nd rd round exit, could easily be a first round if they have to match up with TOR, WAS and BOS.

This guy is the second coming of Hots. And we still got the original one.

I'm just being realistic. After seeing Horford, KD, LeBron, Wade leave their teams, nothing surprises me anymore. I figured Bud would go in-house with a replacement like he did with Teague, Korver and Carroll.

Yup. No way we can match any Celts offers. Unless the Bulls love one of our players but who knows maybe Boston isn't going full in on Butler. I heard they like IT as the leader, and if Butler comes in he'd take the lil guy's spotlight.

Even if not a blockbuster, I like the Ersan and I think that if we could solidify our wing spot or maybe a solid veteran backup point guard, we are for sure deeper, which is always a great thing.

    Get Darren Collison.

    • Interesting there is/was a rift in the front office. some wanted to blow it up and some wanted to maintain the course. Bud wanted to stay the course.
    • Baze's contract isn't untradeable. it is not alot of money in the grand scheme of things
    • Grant Hill doesn't want any part of the daily operations of the team and this doesn't sit well with some people
    • team will look drastically different next season
    • made a mistake not offering qualifying offer for Tim Hardaway Jr.
    • Hawks have interest in Jimmy Butler
    • The Hawks have high hopes for Taurean Prince
    • Paul Milsap wants to stay but so did Al

Would probably have to take a similiar bad contract in return for Baze if ATL doesn't attach their 1st to him.

I thought bringing Hill in that he was going to get involved. He'd definitely be more influencial to FAs.

Butler would be nice at SF.

I'm curious if the FO would be willing to pay Millsap the full 5 year max.

I think Deron would be a solid option as a backup point guard.  I wouldn't give up too much for him as he is very injury prone but he can run an offense and score.  A backup role of 15 minutes or so would be perfect

I figured Deron would go to CLE.

There are going to be some opportunities there, players that fit our system and we can get them cheap. Terrence Jones, Matt Barnes, Brandon Knight, Tucker,  Lou Williams, Galloway, Ajinca.... when you have major holes as backup PG, SF and backup bigs is easy something there you can use

We have some expirings we can unload to a rebuilding team as Thabo, Splitter, Scott, some wings that are redundant and we can trade to a team looking for wing help as Bazemore... Muscala could be appealing for some team....

There are opportunities there, just make it happen Hawks!!

by the way I am assuming we don not get any big name

Jones and Tucker would be nice.
