I have no interest. If memory serves he is a free agent after next season and he will be paid. Don't want to invest that much money in this guy. He isn't a game changer imo.

Right! Bembry could be that guy at SG if Bud gives him a chance.

Just randomly thinking & you may not agree with the idea but I wanted to share an idea about acquiring Avery Bradley and making him a co franchise player along with Dennis....crazy right?!!!! I know but just hear me out.

So here's a player in the NBA (Bradley) that's a two way player and no one in their right mind will argue that at this point.

    Bradley Strengths:

    - elite at defense to say the LEAST guarding 1s & 2s

-greatly improved offensive player the last two seasons that has really found a way to be effective on the court despite coming into the league with no offense whatsoever.

    -ONLY 26

-No major injuries to worry about so far.

    WHAT I SEE:

An all star level player in the making not getting the treatment he deserves among the nba media or general nba fans as his extremely good talents are being hidden behind Isaiah Thomas who's a scoring star (suddenly because he's in a Celtics uniform) & al Horford (who's truly just a great role player to have).

    MY POINT:

I guess I'm not understanding why we aren't taking those same Paul George like risk on such a player of Avery Bradleys caliber who has a extremely high ceiling? The guy is an 26 year old elite defending / 20 points per avg potential guy walking around getting paid 8m per season!http://www.spotrac.com/nba/boston-celtics/avery-bradley-6901/

so am I suggesting the Hawks offer a massive deal to the Celtics for a player that's considered just a role player among media and the general nba fan base ???? HELL YEAH!.....get him and give him an massive extension immediately.

    New Fantasy:

    Dennis, Bradley, Prince, Sap

A trade that works for both teams:

Hawks trade (S&T) THJ & D8 plus two additional first round picks for Avery Bradley & Tyler Zeller.

    hawks-

get explosive young franchise cornerstone back court in Dennis & Bradley to pair with, up and coming Prince & vet anchor man Sap, then can draft best fitting big man available in this years draft to start by Sap. Overall Hawks get younger and quicker instantly with 3 possibly 4 young players in the starting lineup with high potential.

    Celtics-

get the opportunity to start Smart or J Brown along side Isaiah in the backcourt and bring THJ off the bench. Also getting much needed help on the boards in Howard all while being able to keep their playmaking BIG Horford and retaining multiple draft picks to stay flexible.

Celtics are going to want too much for him like Prince and multiple 1sts.

Dwight neefs to be more Tyson Chandler, less whatever he thinks he should be.

Right! I think he still thinks highly of himself. I wish he was more like Elton Brand, another former No. 1 who came to ATL, adapted to the system instead of forcing the team to adapt to him in order for him to be effective.

I'm not a "its a conspiracy!" person but this could indicate two things:

    1. Dwight still sees himself as a superstar and is very mad about no endorsements.
    2. This is the real conspiracy post, but perhaps in that chat with Bud, Bud told him that "while we might not have gotten the ball inside to you enough, we don't really see you as a major offensive option" and he's very unhappy about it (and half of the AJC blog would absolutely ROAR if this was in the media).

Exactly! That's what I was trying to say in my initial explanation.

Horford - I think his previous agent left the agency to join the NBA so he was forced to find a new agent.

Yeah, Tellem joined the Pistons then he hired Bill Duffy and ended up with Jason Glushon all in his last year in ATL.

Saw hawksfanatic say that his new agent will be his 4th since February 2016. He probably still thinks he should be getting superstar endorsements or something, which isn't happening. Who knows...

Yeah, that is true. Fired Fegan in '16, hired Perry Rogers (agent who got him the Hawks deal, hired Andy Miller in April and now they no longer work together.

Interesting. I can't recall seeing any Dwight commercials. I know Rogers was supposed to market him as Superman and have commercials with Shaq.

The agent timing is really odd.

I know Horford went through several agents during his last year in ATL. I assume to find someone to guarantee him a max deal.

I wonder if Dwight wants to be somewhere else to be "The Man" like he was in ORL since I doubt Bud promised him that role for next season.

Y'all can't give the man more than one season to mesh with the team? lol I mean he almost singlehandedly change our entire rebounding dynamic

I feel like we just just have to really gauge our options as far as where we want to go with the future of the team. But as far as having him on our team I enjoy having someone that can get 10+ Rebounds with ease.

Bud's system doesn't seem flexible enough to make it work.

If you resign Millsap you pretty much have no choice but to trade Dwight because that puts the team in a stuck position if you don't. The real issue is who do you get for C? Beats me. Holmes would be an OK choice as a stopgap but not great.

Nobody won't trade for Dwight. I figured Muscula starts but Millsap gets big C minutes like Green in GS.

Dwight Howard can still help the Hawks, but at age 32, his role on this team has to change. Zach Randolph was asked by Memphis' coaching staff to be the leader of the second unit and for the most part it was a smooth transition. Dwight has limited options at this point of his career. Teams are not clamoring to add Howard to their team as a franchise player at this point. The Hawks can win with Dwight, but his role has to change and he has to be cool with that moving forward.

    I agree.

I like this dude a lot. Plus, stealing him from the Celtics would be awesome!

     Mike Zarren, Celtics

Danny Ainge's analytic guru has become more well known thanks to The Wheel, a lottery reform Zach Lowe has written about extensively. He was an analytics pioneer and remains someone who is close to the metrics community, which works in his favor. He also works the cap and has learned from one of the league's most respected personnel bosses in Ainge.

But the jury is out on analytic-gurus-as-GMs: the Rockets under Daryl Morey have not fulfilled their promise, and judgment will wait on Sam Hinkie's Sixers for at least another couple of seasons. Will a third analytics GM get hired with that record? I'm skeptical, though doubting Zarren is typically a bad move.

I like it! If he could get assets like Ainge that would be great.

Bembry  seems to be solid a defender, good finisher at the rim, and a possible excellent playmaker with his passing ability if given more playing time.

So If Bembry shot improves to average will that be the icing on the cake to start him at SG so we can bring THJ off the bench and trade Baze?

Too early to tell. I'd havr to see the direction of the team with the new GM.

The screw-up was Bud and Wes going with Delaney as the backup PG . . . a guy who has a great 17 - 21 foot jumper, but can't shoot the NBA 3, can't get to the rim, and can't defend.  If he could've done just 1 of these 3 things, we may have been OK at the backup PG spot.

PG was definitely a strength of this team during the 2015 - 16 season.   So when you lose a very good PG like team, you want to replace him with a guy that can at least adequately do a few things very well, to keep the position solid overall.

Baze is now the backup PG . . . at least for now.  If the Hawks don't find one in free agency or in the draft, hopefully Bud will start letting Bembry handling the ball some in the halfcourt offense . . . if he cracks the rotation.  He has better ball handling and passing skills than Baze, and that needs to be taken advantage of.

They need to bring Mack back. They never should have traded him.

I wouldn't say a great rim protector was needed, but there are, and continue to be very specific rules for what is needed going against a LBJ team and there was a lot I think this team missed from how it played in 2015.

Here are some of the rules, and it goes further than what I remember was written on RealGM:

    1. You need to have a very good offense and BOTH the ability to move the ball around against a locked in defense and the ability to go one on one and get your own shot without help when it breaks down successfully.
    2. You need to have more than one good defender to throw against LBJ. If you don't, it doesn't matter how good you played defense in the regular season.
    3. More than one very good shooter that can easily be put on lockdown without extra help is needed.

This team didn't have half of 1, it didn't have 2 because of Thabo's injury and after one game had none of 2 because of Carroll getting hurt, and it didn't have 3.

And then you have Millsap playing hurt for the whole playoffs and Carroll getting hurt (as I said above).

You definitely need more than one starter besides the PG who can create their own shot. Dallas, GS, SA all had that.

The answer is clearly no. Our best team was broken up during MJ's first lockout.

Other than that. The best team we have ever had was the 4 All Star squad a couple years ago. But that wasn't really a playoff type of squad for contending.

So no. We have been a pretty just happy to be in the playoffs type of org. We aren't losers like the Clippers but we are probably the face of the threadmill.

Now, St. Louis Hawks is a different story and was elite. But they had severe racism issues to the point they traded Bill Russell because he couldn't live in St. Louis.

The Hawks never really have an A to A+ player. Nique was an A-, Horford was B+/A-, Sap, Deke, Hudson, Pistol Pete who didn't play up to his A level talent and Iso Joe were similar. But we never had a questionable HOF type of talent since Pettit for his time period of course. We had Blaylock and Smitty who were great B level players and we had some really good role players like Doc Rivers, Kevin Willis, Josh Smith and others in our franchise history in Atlanta.

To be great, you either need two A+ players or one with two A to A- talents, three A talents, four B+ talents being great fits and that's about it. But Atlanta never had that and Atlanta never won.

Oh wow I didn't know about the Russell thing.

So this makes it all but certain that Paul Millsap is going to be wearing an Atlanta Hawks uniform next season. Just hope that a strong enough GM is acquired that one of those bad contracts gets sent packing because if not, resigning Paul Millsap puts this team in a hole cap wise.

Yeah, definitely got to move Baze/Dwight for cap space. Probably will have to lose this year's first to get rid of one of them.
