Please elaborate on the Dennis comment? How is he more immature? He sure has been more mature in the playoffs.

Hardaway - you are just going with your preconceived narrative that his defense is awful.  In game one, his defense left a lot to be desired, but since then his defense has been average at the least.  Jose Calderon has awful defense.  Check out Bradley Beal's stats when THjr is guarding him.  You'll be surprised.

I'm just looking at what happened this season - missed the bus, arguing with Dwight during the GS game I believe, etc. Yes, he's been more mature in the playoffs but I'm speaking for Dennis don't need to act like he's been mature for years, just a couple of weeks.

I've watched him play. Yes, I'm aware of Calderon. Teams rejoice when he leaves their teams. It doesn't matter, Beal still gets his numbers. He's not a Beal stopper.

To his credit, he did say he's more focused on defending Beal than his offense. I just want him to hit more than he misses.

Lol he needs to focus harder because he's getting lit up.

Can't believe I'm seeing people not understanding the Baze hate.  It is all about his contract.  He has never been starter quality and now he is playing his right role off the bench.  He will be coming off the bench next  year behind THJr and Prince.  And he will be earning $17M for that honor.

It is the same as the hate that Koncak got.  Koncak was a fine role player who got paid way more than he was worth and got hated for it.  He was a solid defender and limited player who fans would have liked much better with a contract consistent with his role and talent.

It is the same for Bazemore.

Right! I could imagine Hardaway would be the new target of hate next season if ATL is the team that gives him the big money contract if his play from the playoffs carries on to next season.

    Three words: Kyle Korver...

Not only will he be our "shooting consultant", he'll eventually be in a suit sitting directly to Bud's left. And possible eventual successor. Bookmarking this post ;)

I figured Bud's successor will be one of those assistants already on staff that still hung around despite Snyder and Atkinson leaving.

Fix daFro's shot and there's a bright future in Menace, Fro, and Prince as Hawks starting 1, 2, and 3. Time to draft future 4 and 5.

Yeah, let Hardaway walk. He's not going to be worth the 20+ mil a year he'll command.

This '17 Bulls team is bad, this coming from a Jimmy Butler fanboy.  The '15 Hawks would've swept last night, with or without Rondo's short-sleeve suit wearing obvious tripping penalty committing ass.

You gotta have a premier 3 to match against Lebron so we would get swept again on that front.

Bulls now would have been perfect for Thibodeau. Team still isn't built right for Hoiberg to run his offense.

Yeah.  I guess people routinely forget that 8th seed Brooklyn ( with JJ, Brook Lopez, and Deron Williams  . . . and "Hawk Killer" Jarrett Jack ), had this series tied 2 - 2 going back to Atlanta in Round 1.   And Jack damn near beat us by himself in Game 5.

That team also caught a huge break when Wall broke his hand in Game 1 in the Semis and enabled us to catch our breath in that series. Heck, we were actually DOWN in that series 2 - 1, and on the brink of all hell breaking loose, had the Hawks not won Game 4 in Washington.   Then came the "Horford Miracle" in Game 5.  And the Paul Pierce "after the buzzer 3" in Game 6, to send us to the EC Finals.

But let's not act like that team was some vastly superior squad in the playoffs, that just rolled through everybody.  That team was soft, but mentally tough and a great regular season squad.  They were definitely fun to watch, but weren't a playoff juggernaut by no means.

True. Rebounding kept teams like BK in the game. However, NBA has really embraced small ball so Millsap and Horford front court would be a matchup nightmare until they play CLE

It's a lose-lose situation for ATL, pay him and ATL would be capped out and banking on Dennis, Hardaway and Prince to be a Big 3 while Millsap takes a backseat with a huge salary. Let him walk and they're going to get dogged out by local media and fans about losing two All Stars in back-to-back summers.

Horford wanted to leave. Point blank and simple. He was talking to Isiah at the allstar game about Boston.  Ownership had nothing to do with that.

I think he would have stayed if he got offered the full max right away like Conley did. Crowder said he nearly signed with WAS (who didn't make the playoffs last season) and had to talk him out of signing there. It was definitely a money thing.

If he cared about winning like he says about Boston, he would have waited for KD and follow him.

Jeff Schultz also wrote a decent article with a few more tidbits (one interesting point on the Horford negotiations).

Basically furthers my belief that the Howard signing was done more so by Koonin/Ressler than Budcox, along with ownership screwing up the Horford negotiations. But who knows... Good to see Ressler trying to get the Hawks more recognition in their own city though.

I think it was a Bud move. Good to see they didn't have to pay him near the 30 mil a year max to get him to come.

I can understand Morris giving us trouble as he's actually still young and talented but wtf we're making 30-something Jason Smith think he's throwback John Starks dunking over folks. Then you have the Polish hammer, who's a good enough player but he's no spring chicken either and he's beating us down like he's freaking Tim Duncan.

What happened to the Dwight Howard I saw in Houston 2 months ago who was motivated and was dominating on the court? No matter who we have at C it seems we are destined to be physically dominated in the post.

For the first time since the early 2000's I'm actually ashamed to be a Hawks fan. If we get swept out of the playoffs again this year I think that will be it for me as a fan. This team doesn't deserve the effort I/we put into supporting them.

Bud's system can only take you so far. You need talent to really make the system work.

This isn't wrong.  We lack motivation and have yet to match WAS's intensity level.  It's sad.

If Sap and Howard can't motivate themselves based on who they're both matched up against, then we have no hope.

Yeah, Hawks team all should be motivated to try to win the 1st championship in ATL. That should be enough to motivate anybody that puts on an ATL jersey.

I can care less about how anyone feels about this post. His rotations are beyond ridiculous, and allowing Bazemore to repeatedly squander our lead should be enough justification for demotion. He needs to focus 100% of his time on coaching and development. Watching Prince on the bench during the final 3 minutes of the quarter made my blood boil. And Dwight needs his butt kicked! Dudes soft!

Yeah, not everybody is cut out for the job. Doc and SVG sucks at it.

They're supposed to celebrate.  Haven't won a playoff series in damn near 40 years?  So them being up 2 - 0 may as well be like winning the title.

Hawks simply have to bring everything they got on Saturday night.

They won a playoff series 2 years ago.

Spacing..but it didn't seem to help our shooters.

If only Dwight could set screens like Gortat does. He's been killing it.

    39 minutes ago, Lurker said:

Folks gotta look deeper into context here. Gortat was beating Howard fundamentally on the boards and Howard was a joke in Gortat/Wall PNR defense.

Something radical that I'm not even sure would work will probably need to happen.

    Give Howard game 3 off.

  16. 17 minutes ago, Lurker said:

My radical idea is going to have to happen:

    1. Make both Howard and Bazemore inactive in Atlanta.
    2. Start Schröder/Hardaway Jr/Prince/Millsap/Ilyasova.
    3. Put the rookie on Wall and switch every screen.
    4. Continue doing what was done offensively in this game outside of a few mins in the 4th.

It's almost like an immobile center that can't guard PNR is a bad idea.

I'd start Muscula at C and have Hump back him up.

Got to play Thabo over Dunleavy.

Got it.  Sorry, didn't mean to jump down your throat.

It's cool. It's interesting to see national writers talk about the Hawks long term future since local writers aren't doing it.

The vibe I get locally is nobody expects the Hawks to make it out the first round, that's pretty much it. Nothing about possible shakeups.

I'm not advocating trading Dennis or Prince but if the Bulls decide to trade Butler then a package of Dennis/Prince/Baze/Dunleavy/1st for Butler/Rondo would likely get the bulls interested.  So we do have the assets to do it.   Not necessarily saying we want to but we do have the assets.

I understand. Dennis and Prince probably would interest Chicago but I doubt they'd want to take on 3 years of Baze. I'm just talking realistic assets like what could ATL trade to get a star without breaking up their core (Dennis/TH/Prince).

Boston could trade 2017 and/or 2018 Nets picks with Smart/Brown and net a star while still keep their core (IT/Bradley/Crowder/Horford).

I doubt Delaney, Bremby, Baze, Muscula, Thabo moves the needle.

Return to the Hawks and do what?  He's an awful exec.

Certainly you don't mean to coach.  Not unless he's bringing prime Ray Allen, Garnett and Pierce with him.

If we're being honest, outside having those 2 on his roster and in their primes, Glenn has been an awful coach and I'm being kind.

ETA: Plus he's already rumored to be going to ORL.  1-star thread @BigDog90 and, again, I'm being kind.

    The article said exec.

I think he's an awful exec.

I'm just posting the article. I found it interesting they mentioned the Hawks so I posted it.
