  1. Coach Kerr did a great job with the warriors. But i think Coach bud still deserves it because Coach Kerr's team is more talented.. They have Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, they can score 20-30 points every night..

Coach Bud didn't have any superstars or go to guy like Thompson , and Curry. He shaped Hawks in a " Team Basketball mentality culture" and focus on player growth development. Hawks is having a lot of success because of it.. Hawks are now number 1 seed now, Last year they were in the 8th seed. That's a big improvement, and they will keep improving in the next following years.

Also, i think Coach Casey of Raptors should also be a candidate for Coach of the year, He did an unbelievable job with the Raptors.

  2. I totally blame Thabo and Pero, and to be honest, as much as i love what he brings to the Hawks, i would not be disappointed in the Hawks trading him. They could package him and move up in the first round. I say this because im reflecting back to about 4 years ago.  I went to a comedy show in Atlanta that started around 10:30 p.m. The Hawks had played earlier that night, and lost to I think it was Chicago. The club has a v.i.p. section. The emcee for the show was cracking jokes and happened to look over to the v.i.p. section, and guess who was sitting there...............Joe Johnson.

The emcee lit him up. He said: " You just took a shower after the game and came right over didnt you?" " Yall lost, shouldnt you be somewhere working on your game?"  " Highest paid player in the league. " " You can give everybody here $300." The crowd went hysterical laughing at Joe.

The point was made. WINNERS dont do that. I dont care about " players having a personal life", its the perception you are giving fans and the front office. Sometimes, its not the perception, its the reality. How can you be thinking about being the best, if you out in the club at 4 in the morning, with a game to play that SAME DAY????

I say let Thabo go and Pero wouldnt be far behind. The ONE thing that i can say about this current Hawks regime is that they are professional, and they have the Hawks playing like a committed college team that LOVES THE GAME. We dont need more Joe Johnsons. Highly paid players who disappear when championships are on the line........

    Exactly, Totally agreed with you!

Tony parker went clubbing years ago when he was still with Eva Longoria. There was a brawl in the club, a piece a sharp broken glass hits Tony's eye... He almost lost his vision and he could have lose his career. He learned his lesson after that.

I hope Thabo learned his lesson as well, but i wont be also disappointed if Hawks decide  to trade him.

If you are commited to win a Championship, you don't go clubbing in 4 am knowing that you have a game in the same day.

  3. ^^This...So much this. That is the point you are neglecting to notice Spursfan. It's not his responsibility to bubblewrap himself until gametime.

And it's not being overprotective to point out your logical fallacy regarding this issue.

"It's not his responsibility to bubblewrap himself until gametime."

It's not his RESPONSIBILITY...? Excuse me..?

He's a professional basketball player, signed a 12 million dollar multi year deal by Hawks. It's his RESPONSIBILITY for making sure he's taking care of himself and getting out of trouble so he can contribute to the Hawks organization, to the team and in the PLAYOFFS. The Hawks organization is not responsible for his actions clubbing in 4 am knowing his team has a game in the very next day, and they don't pay Thabo for  clubbing late in night. Thabo is responsible for his actions, if he didn't go clubbing in the first place knowing that he has a game to prepare in the same day, this wouldn't happen. He would be playing right now and helping his team in the playoffs.

  4. I'm one of the few Hawks fans that agrees with you. There's a reason why they have security ( sometimes police security ) outside of a nightclub. And it's normally due to the same situation that happened to Chris Copeland.

I'm not against Thabo or anybody else going out at that time of night. But as athletes, you can make prior arrangements to increase your safety going to, being inside, and leaving the club.

Take a limo straight to the club. Call ahead to get VIP express access and a table in VIP. And when you get ready to leave, have security escort you to your limo.

Those guys also have to take into account that when you're in a different city, there's a possibility that you may be treated differently from everybody. In your home city, people know who you are, and you're more than likely to get the benefit of the doubt on things.

The NYPD are a notoriously aggressive police force and definitely shouldn't be let off the hook for hurting Thabo.

But if it is common for players on teams to have played a game . . get on a plane to fly hours to another city . . and get off of a plane in the middle of the night and head straight to a club to party .. then you see why teams routinely drop games on the 2nd night of a back to back.

The excuse always given, is that they're tired from playing the game the night before. But maybe they're tired from playing the night before AND the partying they did after the game.

One last thing. It's funny how most of our fans defend Thabo and Pero's "right" to be out that time of night .. but absolutely DESTROYED Mike Bibby, Josh Smith, and others on the 2010 Hawks when they went to party in Chicago after landing in Milwaukee for the 2010 playoffs.

Hawks were up 2 - 0 in that series after 2 easy wins. They get to Milwaukee ( a city with virtually no plush nightlife ) and Bibby and the boys decide to roll down to Chicago for their entertainment.

The Hawks would lose the next 2 games in Milwaukee. When our fans found out, most of us had an absolute fit about the guys partying. Some will say ... "well its the playoffs, that's different." I say that what you did in the season is normally what you're going to do in the playoffs.

Thank you!!!! someone finally understand my point.

  5. That's like saying "If he didn´t leave his bed that day, he would't have been hurt, so I blame his decision making."...

So your saying that clubbing in 4 am is just the same as leaving his bed, knowing that he has a game in the same day????

Leaving his bed and clubbing in 4 am knowing that he has game to prepare in the same day are totally different thing..

clubbing is more dangerous specially late in night than just waking up and leaving ur bed...

  6. And by blaming both, you're.still.blaming.the.victim in Sefalosha. What part of that do you not understand? He deserves NO blame for this. Sefalosha didn't break his own ankle. Sefalosha didn't ask for it.

You keep harping on "if" Sefalosha hadn't been out at night, which is 100% his right to do, then he would be still playing. There is only one "if" in this scenario - if the NYPD hadn't abusively and wrongfully broken his leg, he would be playing right now. They deserve 100% of the blame for this: THE END.

I said I blamed Thabo for his "decision making", why are you being so over protective?

Yes I know the cops are 100% percent to be blamed  for breaking Thabo's leg. But it' also part of Thabo decision making, going clubbing in 4 am knowing that he has a game in the same day. If he decided to rest and prepare for a game in the same day instead clubbing 4 am, This would not happen to him. You do know how important Thabo for the Hawks don't you?

  7. Still blaming the victim, I see...

I blamed both...I blame the cops for breaking his leg, but also I blame Thabo for his decision making. If Thabo didn't went clubbing instead of resting and preparing for the game in the same day in the first place, this wouldn't happened...  He would be playing right now and helping his team in the playoffs. He is a big part of Hawks success in this season.

  8. So did the injury happen during the arrest or after he was taken into custody? If it was after, then this story could explode even more.

It happened during the arrest. Cops broke his leg..

We can blame the cops all day long, but if Thabo didn't club late in night instead of resting and preparing for a game in the same day.. He could been playing right now and helping his team in the playoffs.

Thabo said " I will simply say that I am in great pain" ..

i feel the same way too.. not only because the cops broke his leg.. it's also because he wont be able to help his team in the playoffs.. He such an important piece for the Hawks..

  9. Congrats to Hawks for getting 60 wins. Nobody saw this coming..

Most of the credit and recognition goes to the players not just Coach Bud and Danny Ferry.. This current hawk team is definitely special! even if they don't reach the finals this year, they can still continue building from this year success.  I really enjoyed watching these guys because they play for each other and they compete together as a team. Atlanta Hawks have a bright future. Im really happy for them and for the city of Atlanta!

  10. I'm pretty sure this spurs guy is hotlanta's playmate. They can't be older than 19.

How can you be so sure about that lol? Im not Hotlanta's playmate... i don't agree on all Hotlanta posts, I know he usually likes to troll and create conflict in threads but his recently posts and opinions about Thabo and Pero clubbing  in 2-4a.m. somewhere in NYC instead of resting and preparing for  a game in the same day.. That i'll understand and I will choose to agree with his opinions this time.

  11. What? You quote a post directly saying that Koonin believes that the two players are innocent of the police charges against them with the statement they had nothing to do with the stabbing. 1st, duh, 2nd, it's irrelevant, that wasn't what was being discussed.

Yea i did quote hawksfanatic post but i wasnt talking about the police charges, i was just saying that im sure that  almost everyone knows and agree that Thabo and Pero are completely innocent and had definitely nothing to do with the Copeland stabbing.

  12. "Hi Steve, hey how's it going, what do you think about this whole situation?"

(you can click the link to listen to the interview)...OK time to wait for more details to emerge again. In the meantime, grab the  and watch for Squawkers to continue to make asses of themselves in this thread.

I'm sure almost everyone knows that Thabo and Pero have nothing to do with Copeland getting stabbed..

  13. I'm coming from the perspective that nothing good happens after 2:00 a.m.  Clubbing after 2:00 a.m. on a game day in particular is just a bad idea, IMO.

I am not at the point of advocating curfews or barring clubbing but it is worth thinking about.  There is a very high probability this could end up costing the ASG and the Hawks organization millions of dollars.  Both because now they have to pay Thabo for not playing and pay for some portion of his medical bills if they are self-insured (not sure) and moreso because I think this turns us from a title contender into a significantly lower probability.  The arrests, injuries, etc. that come from clubbing and bar hopping after 2:00 a.m. can come back to haunt teams so it is worth thinking about addressing.  Teams already have clauses in some contracts like the clause that prohibits people from skiing, riding a motorcycle, etc.  I guess in principle I would like to see it where players are free to engage in these things but if they miss time because of a fight, etc. then the team doesn't have to pay but I'm not sure how you would draw the lines on that for non-criminal conduct.

    I totally agree with you.

  14. Saying "" is like saying "You wouldn't have a car accident if you hadn't been driving". The fact that he was out  at night doesn't justify what Thabo experienced. FFS an Atlanta Hawks player's leg is broken and some of you here are almost upset that he wasn't shot.

Clubbing and driving are not the same thing... Hawks are trying to prepare for Playoffs, then Thabo and Pero decides to club in 2-4a.m. somewhere in NYC instead of resting and preparing for a game in the same day. Some of us are not upset just because he broke his leg.... Were upset because he made a bad decision. For me im only criticizing of his decision making but that doesn't mean i officialy hate THabo.

Hawks are trying to prepare for playoffs, Coach Bud rest THabo a lot because of his calf injury, then Thabo decides to club somewhere in NYC instead of preparing for a game in the same day then ending up getting arrested, breaking his leg, and won't be able to help his team in the playoffs knowing that he's one the best defenders in the team and a versatile player. I see the reason why some of us will get upset..

  15. Going to the club isn't a bad decision. Pretty normal thing for people to do, especially people with money. People are standing on this moral high ground looking down on someone for GOING TO THE CLUB? Seriously?

Going to a club in 2-4 a.m. somewhere in NYC instead of resting and preparing game in the same day? If Thabo didn't go clubbing he could have saved his leg and help the hawks in the playoffs. I'd say he did make a bad decision..

  16. All Thabo and Pero have proven is they cannot be depended on to be there for the team. I dont dislike them or want anything bad to happen to them BUT as a HAWKS FAN I say goodbye and goodriddence. Obviously your responsilities to the team didnt mean much to you. When we need Thabo the most in the playoffs he wont be there. Id rather the Hawks spend their money on somebody who will. Thats my right to have my opinion as a fan.

I agree with your opinion. Coach Bud and their teammates still supports them, so Thabo and Pero might still stay with the Hawks in next season, but you never know what will happen..

  17. Trust me I agree, I was one of his biggest advocates when we signed him. He was a godsend for us, playoff tested/proven, pedigree going against the best. Shined in big moments the whole nine yards. Any team would be better with a player like him. But after accepting the truth its time to move on. Life happens and you cant cry over spilled milk. Last I checked we start a guy named Demarre Carroll who has quite the knack for playing defense and is an even better offensive guy. Last I checked yea we lost games without Thabo on the road but how many of those games did we really try to win with our starters being rested? Last I checked the playoffs arent the regular season and I expect Al Horford to be a bigger difference maker for our squad than Thabo. I expect Baze to focus and step it up and make a name for himself. I expect the Atlanta Hawks to trust the system, trust each other, and compete until their last breath. Thats me though, I cant speak for the rest of you "Hawks Fans" on here.

"I expect the Atlanta Hawks to trust the system, trust each other, and compete until their last breath."

I expect the same thing too, but i would prefer Thabo to be playing in the playoffs  because he makes a huge diffirence when he's on the court. His defensive skill and versatility makes Hawks much more of a threat. You always want to see your team in full strength when going in the playoffs and not missing any players just like any other team out there who's also preparing for the playoffs.

    .

  18. Would you like to go on record? Cuz I havent heard a fat lady yet

Bunch of grown azz men crying and bitchin about other grown men on here I swear.

Lol that made me laugh. Im sure Hotlanta is just trolling =) Hawks still have a chance to go far in the playoffs  withouth Thabo.. but it would be better if Thabo is playing in the playoffs. Hawks is on a different level when Thabo is playing.

  19. They haven't beaten a winning team on the road without Thabo.

Even with HC advantage you will have to win on the road a few times in the playoffs.

That's why Thabo is really important to the team because of his versatility and defense. It's really sad, Coach Bud rest Thabo for a long time because of his calf injury. He wants Thabo to be fully healthy before playoff starts. Then Thabo broke his leg, and wont be participating in the playoffs.. If he didn't go clubbing, this wouldn't happen..

  20. news flash, if he wasn't out at the club on a back to back he wouldn't be in this spot.

see, critical thinking would suggest that, he had not made said bad decision, he wouldn't be in his current position, no matter what your opinion of the cops is.

all on Thabo and the other players that went. there's no victim blaming lol, he was just being an idiot.

lets also mention he has literally no ties to copeland and was only there to get in people's way.

    it's his fault.

if we truly want a spurs culture, that shit has got to be stopped.

Parker got an eye cut in a club fight a few years ago and learned his lesson. hopefully this will do the same.

I totally agree with you. If hawks wants to be a championship caliber team, every player should always stay out of trouble, and keep working hard instead of clubbing.

Im not hating on Thabo but he did made a bad decision and caused Hawks deep run playoff chances to slim down.. You always want to see your team in full power in the playoffs, not missing any players...

Hawks are preparing for playoffs, it's one of the biggest reasons why coach Bud always rest his starters back to back games. Now knowing that Thabo is not going to play in the playoffs. It's going to be really tough for Hawks.. it's just frustrating because hawks worked so hard to get number 1 seed and now has a chance to show everyone what can Hawks do in the playoffs.. but withouth Thabo, Hawks is not in full strength.
