  1. The only thing that I would have done differently in the draft is maybe try harder to trade up for one of Winslow, Johnson, Booker, or Turner (and this is repeating myself). It didn’t seem like a great first round past 15. This trade as far as I’m concerned is a bust but unless Sam Dekker turns out to be really something, then the only options for Atlanta that were good were try harder to trade up for a better talent or just trade down and out of the first round.

  2. While I think Atlanta will end up looking YET AGAIN for a young wing player next summer, if Sam Dekker busts, IMHO there was NO good options from 15 and beyond on the wing. The reality is I think they maybe should have tried to trade up for one of the three best options on the wing.

  3. Here’s what I see in the last game:

Teams are packing the paint on Schröder. Not allowing him to go right to the hoop. But like he did in Eurobasket, he’s still trying to go to the hoop and is not getting away with it this time. He may have only had 3 turnovers, but had the Harden like TOs in that a lot of his passes came too late for any of his teammates to handle.

His 10 assists doesn’t tell the story, he was really, really bad last night. Not the only reason for the loss, but a lot of it.

If teams had the scouting report on him last season, I don’t think Atlanta is able to get as hot as they did with him starting and wouldn’t have been able to build the confidence that they did to go on the run that happened.

  4. Oh boy! Where do I start:

    1.       Rather have a future 1st than Payne. That’s a complete bust of a pick.

    2.       Not sure GRob3 would be getting off the bench much at all (same with Oubre).

    3.       If Sam Dekker busts then I don’t think any of the wings outside of top 16ish in the draft this year were that noteworthy.

    4.       Edy really isn’t that much more than a body that can throw itself around right now off of the bench. He’d be picking up fouls FAST if they tried to let him contribute, he’d be a 5-10 mins a night man MAX if he played.

Atlanta needed to try harder to trade up to target Winslow/Johnson/Booker or select Sam Dekker in the draft. Prediction: They’re looking at the wing situation again next summer. And, Edy was never going to be a real factor until spring 2016 at best.

DMC is not an elite perimeter defender.

Then explain why most people think the reason why Millsap and Horford back there didn’t get exposed because of Atlanta having a PF sized SF starting.

Tell you what, Sefolosha starting would temporarily fix some of the problems on defense, but it's not going to be permanently fixed all of them unless a PF sized SF is brought in and Korver gets back up to at least the speed he was at least season.

And excuse the grammar, I can't edit due to the VIP feature thing.

And P.S.  Our problems have nothing to do with Demarre Carrol!

It does have to do with not having a SF that is PF sized starting. If ATL doesn’t have elite perimeter defense it completely exposes Horford and Millsap, and they only do when Sefolosha plays a lot.

  7. The temporary fix that would likely work for the season for the Hawks is Sefolosha moving to the starting lineup and Korver fully shaking off the effects of his surgeries.

It immediately pushes the perimeter defense back to elite and hides Horford and Millsap again.

But the permanent fix really is one of Horford or Millsap gotta go and I think it has to be Horford (unfortunately for some of you guys).

In a perfect world, Tavares works out well as a starter by 17/18 and they’re able to trade one of Teague or Schröder for a good young wing that is PF sized.

  8. "Crash the offensive glass" doesn't mean ATL's side, it means the opposing teams side. The top of the scouting report for me is shoot a ton of threes, crash the offensive glass hard, and cover Korver.

Splitter isn't that good of a rebounder, I am not joking when I mean the only solution is in all likelihood Millsap or Horford goes.

15th best defense in the NBA (slightly out of the top 10 but that will change)

The defense isn’t going to get any better until/unless Sefolosha starts or a big wing player is starting alongside Korver that is acquired. Average perimeter defense exposes the fact that Millsap and Horford back there usually won’t cut it. Elite perimeter defense hides them.

And so far this perimeter defense is average…just like 2013-2014. There are changes that can be made to fix it, but the question is will they do it?

The only way to really fix the "crash the offensive glass" scouting report is....Millsap or Horford gotta go. Not to the bench, but gone in a trade.

  10. If Atlanta could even get like a Jeff Green, it’d push the perimeter defense back to elite and hide Horford/Millsap again defensively. Only problem is the same problem offensively is still there, they’re going to double down on Korver and just tip their cap if someone else beats them with their jumper.

  11. If Atlanta isn't going to start Sefolosha at SF they really need to start looking for alternatives because they're going to be constantly exploited there due to lack of size. This is the third time already in 11 games, at least this time it wasn't due to scoring. Letting Crowder beat you on the boards is inexcusable and purely due to size issues.
