Is it possible to trade Howard again before the trade deadline?....if so maybe we could get a ton of assets for him if bud thinks he will bolt on us in the summer

Stranger things have happened. The Hawks signed Rasheed Wallace, for what,  ONE game and dealt him..................I was BIG time upset with the Hawks with not keeping him........

Deke wasn't anywhere near as good for us as Al

I admit that Al is a great player, and has done a lot, its just that i personally place value of defense over offense in basketball.

That's an extremely dangerous option especially if Horford is likely to resign.

I know. My feeling is the ceiling has been reached with the Sap/Horford combo. I would gamble if it can they can get cap space.

You get what you pay for with Teague.  He really doesn't have a defined role in the NBA for a true contending team.

He can't shoot well enough to be a bench spark, can't defend well enough to start and finish.  Much too inconsistent in these integral areas.

He could be Kevin Johnson if he had notable heart and work habits, and even he was a tweener who presented lineup problems.  He has been compared to Bobby Jackson here, Jeff wishes he could shoot that well.

Last year was certainly an outlier, I knew he wouldn't be consistent year-to-year going forward in the little things that made him an All-Star.

Your team more times than not is a simple embodiment of your PG. It's no wonder we've been hovering around mediocre for his entire career sans last season.  I've never disliked Jeff like I did Josh or Joe, never could embrace him either.

That about sums it up.  JUST for conversation, dont you get the feeling that if Parker were running the Hawks show, it would be worth 5 more wins easily??

Not really.  But him and Sap would be if signed to the max.

    Please note:

I didn't say Howard doesn't want to resign if traded here but he doesn't want to opt in.

That's the holdup. He wants to be a FA like Sap was last year. The issue is, Dwight doesn't have a vested interest in the Hawks and that's a problem.

The only way i do the trade is if it leaves the Hawks with more cap room.  If Howard doesnt opt in, does that leave the Hawks MORE room to work with in the cap next year? Rent Howard for a year and see what happens, with the fallback of looking at more cap room??

Before that you said Brook Lopez about a million times. What's ur point?

Ehhh. I still feel that the 5 position is a priority.  Also, no way i would ship Baze. He and Sap are the main two reasons the Hawks win games at this point.  If its true that even at THIS point, Howard and his agent dont wanna play ball, then forget him. I wanted to take a chance on his prima donna character, but obviously, they still THINK he is worth more than he is............

Please give me full details of what Ferry would do to drastically improve last season's team. I'll wait.

Hint: The only thing he would have done differently is actually draft a player, who would be chilling on the bench most likely outside of garbage time.

Bud couldn't have built that squad in the first place....

  8. Let me explain something. I KNOW it appears that im real negative about the Hawks. I AM, and its because i DO care about the team.  At the same time, they have ZERO benefit of the doubt with me because they have been in Atlanta since 1970 without a championship.  There is a BOARD consensus that the Hawks need help rebounding and or blocking shots. If WE know that, BUD knows that, GRANT HILL knows that. I bring Grant's name into this because like i said in the thread about the investors wanting to flip the Hawks down the road, the fact that Grant Hill KNOWS basketball, just reaffirms what i said in that thread.

Bud has been given license to run this team without any oversight. THATS the reason he continues to force that spread offense without making any adjustments or going after a big that can rebound and or block shots. The FIRST excuse always made on this board about Bud's offense when you suggest a big that can rebound etc.  is  " certain player cant play in Bud's spread offense."

Forget that spread offense. THATS the problem. Bud REFUSES to adjust how its ran.  People are not looking at the PLAYS.  I examined a couple plays, the Hawks under pick and  roll, and their Hammer. In BOTH plays, there is ZERO reason that Horford HAS to be out in 3 point land. ZERO. In BOTH plays, Bud STILL has at least TWO shooters spread out on the perimeter at the conclusion of the play, WITHOUT Horford.

It reminds me of the spread offense in football. Its a new fangled product that puts up points, but at the end of the day, its the inside game ( running the football), and defense that wins championships. Any of yall remember when Buddy Ryan punched Kevin Gilbride on the sidelines because he kept running that spread offense and causing Buddy's defense to wear down.......lmao

THATS the problem in Atlanta. One of them assistants needs to check Bud but they know they will get bounced out of there if they did. THEY KNOW this ship aint going anywhere.

As anything, that can be interpreted several ways.  Are you saying that A 3 point shooting team cannot make it in the NBA?  To wit I said, the GS Warriors are proving that false every night.   i.e. we don't have to go out and make ourselves a Inside dominant team at the risk of giving up our 3 point shooting, then we would be no better than Memphis... are they an example of what you're talking about??

I agree if you mean we need to balance our three point shooting with inside play but that's not what you said.

balance, and Golden State rebounds better than Atlanta.  Golden State is fourth in the NBA in total rebounding,  Atlanta 3rd from last.  Golden State averages 3 more rebounds per game on the offensive end than Atlanta.  They get second chances OFF 3 pointers. Atlanta is one and done.

Nah Son.  GS proves night in and night out that this is not true.

Our weakness is that we don't get rebounds or score points inside.  IF we did so, Korver would be much more potent.  Moreover, Bud ball would work.

Didnt i SAY that the NBA is still a INSIDE game???.................Here is MY quote:

Once korver stopped hitting shots, the hawk's weaknesses became apparent.  The NBA is still a inside game.....

  11. He cant be traded until December 15.  The clippers want him gone YESTERDAY. I say gamble and trade Scott for him straight up. I like Scott, but Bud doesnt. If Smith can come off the bench and create shots for others and rebound like he did in the playoffs for Houston last year, its worth a small gamble to bring him back. Scott's jumper isnt consistent, so its not like the Hawks would be giving up any scoring. At this point, DO SOMETHING. We all know what Smith can bring when he is not looking to shoot the 3 pointer. He can block shots, get steals, all the things that Scott cannot do.

The Clippers would have to throw somebody else in there to make the salaries work.

This is such a short sighted statement and I don't know where to begin to respond to it.  Needless to say, Bud hung his hat on this team winning as a jump shooting team.  Only problem is that the players on this team are not good shooters.  Last year Korver was a completely different player from what he is this year.  That to me is the biggest difference to me.

Exactly. Now that bud has nobody who can hit 3 pointers consistently, he refuses to change his plays so that the 5 is going toward the rim. Teams just hang around the paint now and don't chase Hawk shooters.  It was a SIMPLE adjustment..
