They made a legal trade with Detroit, they paid Detroit to take his salary...all within the CBA rules. NBA can't fix stupid (Detroit) for taking only 2nds. (Though I'm don't see how they can request a 1st for $10 mil (actual contract value). Every year teams in the Luxury Tax try to reduce or eliminate their tax burden, all within the rules.

Legal trades have been stopped in the past. Chris Paul to LA was killed because of competitive balance.

  2. The more I think about this trade witch was inevitable. It’s a billionaire bailout basically. NJ has legitimately just avoided taxes oh and the Lakers get Jordan. For the Pistons they get four second round picks, which there’s a 90% chance is nothing of note. The other players involved aren’t even a thought in this trade and really neither does Jordan going to the Lakers. It doesn’t really move the needle. This is about the Nets being allowed to save $47 million in taxes to create a unbelievable super team. This is where the NBA should think about stepping in for competitive reasons and say hey if you’re going to buy a championship then you should at least pay your taxes.

I wish teams wouldn’t do this basically helping other teams offload salary for some second round picks. Stick em with the bill, they created an unbelievable team that doesn’t seem fair almost and there’s always some team to bail em out financially when they’re not contenders.

Also Jahil Okafor is still in the league? Damn dude was a huge bust. I forgot about him until right now.

  4. Clint fits perfectly in this time frame and it’s not Gobert money. I compared them last season and a few people went after me but they are in the end very very comparable players. With Gobert you are paying a premium although 10 million more  premium which is why I like this deal for Clint much better than I like the Gobert deal with Utah. But I still don’t like the idea of spending crazy big money for a player who wrecks havoc on the boards on both ends, is a top level lob threat and is premier defender expect both Gobert and Clint consistently get worked over like embarrassed by the top level offensive Bigs in the NBA. Embiid Jovic ect. worked each Clapela and Gobert respectively. That being said I’m happy-ish with the deal but it’s clear even the best defender in the NBA would more than likely get worked by the best offensive player in the league. But in the end we need to balance out the team and Clint does that for years to come. Good move B+

Y'all think offense way too much for my taste.  The thing that makes a band great is the chemistry that is form with each member which appears to be forming with this current group.  As much as y'all complain that we don't have a Bradley Beal or Dame Lillard as a robin to Trae, all of those guys have one thing in common which is they had gone fishing long before this rag tag Hawks team did this year.  I am willing to wait and see what these young players become before throwing the baby out with the bath water.

First I definitely think of to much of offense. I would definitely not taken OO last year I would’ve taken Haliburton Hayes or Toppin over him. And he proved me wrong and blew me away in the last quarter of the season and playoffs. The year before that I was calling for Herro over Cam. I’m extremely happy Travis is our GM and not me. Because I think our Robin which we do need will be homegrown. There’s no reason JC can’t be get more touches in the paint and expand his mid range game. I can easily see Heurter becoming more confident in his floaters 3’s playmaking and drives, Cam can be an elite defender if he can stay on the floor by being a more consistent 3 points shooter and a f’ing star if he can be confident and aggressive at the offensive end, and of course Dre can already score at all three levels and IMO is going to be our second best player as long as he stays healthy.
I’m excited we kept this group together and I wouldn’t try and trade for someone else’s “star” at this point but we are all excited because we’ve got young guys with potential and a fantastic group of veterans surrounding them. But it’s the potential I think we’re all excited for most.

  6. The only glaring weakness of this team is a legit Robin to Trae’s Batman. Honestly what got Milwaukee to the finals is Middleton, the most streaky but underrated star in the game. The Bucks have the Greek freak but they also have a Robin who can drop 30 plus on anyone any given night and average 20 points per game on a good to great team.
Good news you’ve got four guys who can possibly become that in Heurter Dre Cam and JC. It wouldn’t surprise me for any of these guys to level up next season. And possibly explode and become that true 2nd option.
Also you’ve got the talent to swing big trade and get possibly a Buddy Hield to try and be that guy, a Gallo for Hield trade works on the trade machine straight up, as Sac would shed future salary and the Hawks would get whatever I don’t see this happing though trade is a possibility   I think you play it out with this group one more year and hope one of these guys blossoms into a legit second All Star.

Man the way some of y'all talk about these men getting their money makes me look at you sideways.

If you were in JC's position, you would fight for every penny for your family and feel justified. But JC does that and he's a problem now?

Some of y'all got that "owner mentality" (IYKYK) and I'll leave it at that.

I always hear people give this argument every offseason. But normal people make the decision all the time to take less money to be closer to home to have more time home or because they like their current situation. Fighting for every penny is not what all people would do.

Oh and I don’t think JC would be getting less money if he accepted the deal on the table because I don’t think anymore money is out there for him.

  8. Reports say teams are thinking Collins is a lock to return to Atlanta on a hefty contract near max money. If it’s a 4 year deal it’s near max money. If it’s for 5 years it’s for a guy who fits perfectly with Trae in the pick and roll and can hit three’s but he’s not a great or even good defender per the stats and visually. If it’s five years it’s 25 per, which is a little more palatable.
So if 120 is the number and the Hawks are going to retain JC what’s the excitement level and do you think JC is worth it?

GS always had bigs they could use for defense. They were never bullied. Mcgee,Bogut,Zaza, Cousins,Speights,Ezeli,Varejo,Lee, West. Not the greatest but they were physical in the paint and protected Steph from being bullied. They ran the Hamptons unit at times but you can get away with it when the other team doesn't have a strong post game and you got Steph, Klay and Durant. Basketball is a physical sport, We can throw our hands up in the air or we can find someone to at least offer some resistance. You can't answer a 7 ft problem with a 6ft 8 answer.

So follow GWS and get solid bigs for a reasonable price. It’s that easy…

I believe Schlenk to find that right guy.

  10. Legitimately I thought we had a good chance against any of the Nets Bucks or Sixers in the second round but for a second I thought but In the third round? Then I remember we’ve got Trae who doesn’t give a shit what round it is and now I feel confident again. JC Capela stepped up big tonight with Heurter Solo and even Galo who looked a little off but hit some big shots and all the others. We actually got a squad who can do it. And that belief starts with Trae even if he can’t score 48 next game we’ve got other guys who believe in each other and themselves to step up! We’re in this.

To each his own but how do y’all watch Inside the NBA?  I just can’t.

They’re entertaining. I love the fact Chuck a degenerate gambler who’s gotten picked up trying to get a hooker. Honestly give me some laughs with a little basketball because every other so called analysts are silver spoon college grads who got to ESPN because they got a degree in communications with zero knowledge and no understanding of the game.

I NEVER WANT TO SEE BEN SIMMONS MAKE AN ALL STAR AND ALL-NBA TEAM BEFORE TRAE AFTER THIS SERIES.

Quite quite.. no offense to Trea but the less ALL-NBA teams ect. for Trea means his max contract will not be as expensive. Think about how the Warriors both Curry and Thomson signed max deals before they got those awards which factor into how much they could command. There’s a great article I can’t remember right now talking about this. It’s actually works out great for us that these guys haven’t gotten these accolades. Now we can sign them to more reasonable rates that afford us to sign other players.
