At the end of the day @NBASupes and @Diesel we have a very good starting lineup when healthy and perhaps even a top 10 bench healthy.

we just need to worry about adding on rather then taking away.

You can’t add if you have no money to spend. Losing JC is an obvious step back in the short term so that you have available space in the future. Trae has shown he is a star who is a facilitator and makes others better. Hopefully that’ll attract another player truly worthy of a max contract.

Also you can’t call JC a 3 and D player because his D just isn’t there. The numbers are against him and stats say he’s a subpar defensive player. He’s really no bigger than Dre but he can’t guard small forwards and he certainly can’t guard big centers. The truth is if he doesn’t sign for 90 or less I highly doubt he’ll be a Hawk much longer.

4/$90 million is my sweet spot for him, just not a fan of anything above that. Obviously though, the Hawks can't afford to lose a player of his caliber so they should match anything in restricted FA if a trade can't be made.

The problem is the Hawks can’t afford to lose JC but we also can’t afford to overpay. I’ll say it again if John could create his own shot constantly and score 20 points a game then he’s a max player. But the truth is he rarely creates his own shot and is more of do it all clean up roll player. Imagine if JC was drafted to a Utah or Denver where there’s already players everywhere, then his numbers would be way down and you could sign him for a reasonable price. But he got drafted to us when we had nothing so he was the best player on a team with nothing. So his numbers were inflated but he also had plenty of court time to grow. And still never has consistently showed he can create his own shot. Signing JC to a max will hurt this team’s future more than help it.

It's kind of shocking to me it took this long for a team to blitz Trae aggressively on the pick and rolls. Chicago did it last year with Dunn and dominated us. We have a lot more recourses than last year if they do that but still, if I'm the other team right now ANYONE but Trae Young is going to have to beat me.

The Mavericks did it to us this year, if I can remember correctly it was a couple of games before we let LP go. They did it the whole game and LP made zero adjustments. I think it’s a big reason LP got let go.
You have to make teams pay for trying. If playing full court press and trapping superstars worked over the course of a series or a game than teams would do it constantly. Well coached teams in the NBA brake the press.

Honestly, that's probably because the studio is in Atlanta.

Yeah that’s probably it. I don’t want to get in stupid arguments with other Hawks fans. It doesn’t matter if LPs an anchor for NBA tv or an anchor holding the Hawks ship down.

But seriously I’m just excited we handled our business and got a win.

Shaq, Kenny and Chuck are not going anywhere because the ratings are good. But for me personally, trading cheap shots, half-assed analysis where they hardly know the players names, and eye-rolling hot takes, that doesn't appeal to me.

They’re  entertaining. I really don’t think LP has it when it comes to broadcasting or analysis. Look he’s a good guy and he’ll end up as an assistant coach somewhere. But give me a break.

NBA tv fired that clown Rick Kamla now they hire their 11th ex failure Hawks coach. Hubby Brown Mike Fratello ect. Hey you want to be a analyst fail coaching the Hawks for a couple seasons. I remember Mike Brown was on NBA tv for a bit also. Why can’t NBA tv figure it out like TNT. Horrible

  7. Well I said in another thread I liked the matchup. They can’t guard Trea despite all the defensively minded guards and we would attack Embiid offensively and defensively. I thought Hunter would neutralize Simmons and we’d guard Harris like Randle.  Obviously Hunter was out tonight so we’ll see how that goes. But I was right about the first two Trae and how we attacked Embiid but I was wrong about Harris we guarded Simmons like Randle. But overall it kinda played out how I thought, except the huge lead and almost collapse.
We did what we needed to do and stole one on the road. We just need to play our game and we can win this series.

  8. Oh and can someone find the clip of Solo shouldering up Noel after Noel gave Trae a little shoulder bump between half’s? Noel was honestly shocked to get something back after some high school tough guy shit and the Knicks as a whole just didn’t expect us to match their physicality.
Guys are stepping up for Trae which proves his leadership.

Agreed. And let's not forget that Heurter is working himself into a decent payday himself. It's quickly approaching a time where we are no longer going to be asking who else can we add, but how long can we afford to keep all of these guys together.

Collins isn't worth much more than 90 million to us, if that. Not if he wants to stay here long term. That being said, we should match any offer he gets, knowing we can and probably will end up trading him when the time is right.

So if the Mavericks offer JC a max we should match? Or just persuade a sign and trade and get a second round pick. Then with all the saved money sign a Kelly Oubre for half the cost and get maybe Rose to replace Lou and try and keep Hill and Snell.

Edit you could actually get Paul Milsap for probably next to nothing, replace some of JCs production not dip a whole lot and keep your options and money open for a difference maker in the future.

  10. I’d love to bring everyone back but JC turned down 4 years 90 million. That’s 22.5 a year for a possible 28 a year. It hurts but he should’ve taken the offer it was and is fair. It’s really hard to pay 28 million to what you’re fifth best player. Trae Bogi Clint Hunter. And JC does things that can be replaced. You can’t replace what Trae does. JC will sign for less than max maybe for what we originally offered and we’ll keep it rolling. If he wants max then there’s options out there that won’t restrict the team long term.

I understand the pause but it’s fun to look forward.  I predicted a 4-2 series win so I got a game to totally discount the Knicks.  If we lose this next one I’ll shut up about the Sixers.

Question: do the Hawks pull a Larry Drew versus Prime Dwight move?  I don’t want Capela struggling with foul trouble in addition to being unable to match Embiids scoring.  Just let that man drop 40-50 a game while singling him up with the Bruno’s and OOs and Knights.  The spots where they double him should be well-timed, he’s far better than Randle in that regard.  The rest of their squad is capable of another 50-55 points maybe.  I’ll take my chances with the Hawks getting to 100 first and eventually winning with the way we’ve been defending lately. That’s 18 Embiid triple threat possessions where the possibilities are:

    1. a missed shot and defensive rebound

    2. hard foul leading to at least a point

    3. Pass out to a well-defended player

    4. Best case scenario drawing an offensive foul

    5. Getting scored on

Doc is going to be thinking outside the box when it comes to defending Trae, a Top 2 MVP candidate who’s big as a tool shed deserves the same respect.  Make our young Bigs run him off the three point line because Clint ain’t about that life lol.  His touch from there becomes softer with each FT he makes so we gotta pick the poison.  We simply can’t let him get his within the flow of their normal offense with Harris and Simmons attacking the rim and Green and Curry getting open looks.  Let’s test his supposed improved stamina and conditioning in a series where everyone knows what’s happening strategy-wise after Game 2.

Embiid is a problem period I think Clint will definitely be in foul trouble if we don’t attack Embiid and make him work defensively. Look they got everything inside and out. But kinda so do we. It’s an interesting matchup and honestly I think Philadelphia is better top to bottom than Milwaukee and the Nets. If Clint and whoever else can hold Embiid to 25 a game we can beat the Sixers.

This is something I saw all week leading to ATL v. NY was them already looking forward to their division rivals Philly skipping us as if we are scrubs, acting as if Trae Young is nothing and moving on as a team.

Lloydfree, former Realgm sixer mod is talking about Washington doesn't prepare them for the Nets or Bucks. Wow! It's like the disrespect is nonstop and it's not like the Sixers are exactly good against us and Trae. Over the years, they tend to get beat by us. This year, we played them either heavily hurt or they had COVID so our matchups this year wasn't telling but we matchup better against them than we did the Knicks. The Knicks athleticism and toughness gives us some headaches.

Philly is finesse like us. On top of that. They always have players we can hide Trae on. They love Tybyulle but all that happens is he gets in foul trouble playing Trae overaggressive and he's Thabo like. Remember when we played the Cavs, we put Thabo on a Bron. Only thing that happened was Bron rested on Thabo and went crazy on us on offense.

Not saying Philly don't have the best player in the series, they do with Embiid. Capela can guard him, our issue is center depth and if Clint is in foul trouble.

Ben Simmons is food. Hunter will put him on an island. Simmons gives Trae issues, we gotta get him in screens with Capela at all times.

Philly gives us some issues but we give Philly more issues than they give us.

In head to head games Trae averaged 27 4 and 9 assist to Simmons 20 9 and 8. And Trae has a 4-3 record against Ben. Trae will eat Simmons lunch.

How so? Been looking for some analysis on this

Well first despite the Sixers having a bunch of guards Simmons Curry Hill Thybulle none of them can guard Trae. I’m guessing we guard Harris similar to how we are Randle. We have Hunter to neutralize Simmons and we have to attack Embiid offensively with our bigs and make him work on both sides of the floor. Let’s take care of game 5 but yeah I like the matchup with the Sixers.

LP is on NBATV.  Leave that man alone and out of celebrations.  Are we going to talk about LP if we win a championship?  He's been nothing but cordial regarding the Hawks.  He did train up our young guys and at the end couldn't relate.

Also, the below is what excites me the most.

If we won the championship this year it would 100% be part of the narrative. That’s a ridiculous statement seeing as how they’ve already talked about the coaching change during every game on national television this series. What are you thinking.

Even Schlenk gotta be surprised at this chemistry and these fits.  He’s made great moves since he arrived, arguably none better than bringing Nate Mac-10 into the fold.  Does the man even sleep?

It took huge balls from Schlenk to do the right thing and fire LP mid season. Something I and many fans were calling for despite LP being a “good” guy. He is a horrible HC. He has no clue about NBA rotations. Remember all the head coaches Rick Carlisle and Gregg Popovich saying Atlanta was a sorry franchise for firing LP for not winning games we had no chance to win. Yeah right LP had no belief in this team and Nate believes in them and know how to actually coach. Past that Schlenk has put together an incredibly deep team that is perfectly suited for Trae’s game.

  16. I’m not tech savvy but I heard an interesting knicks podcast where they’re loving on the Hawks and just being real and happy losing to the better team. Google ringer Hawks idk. The NYC fans are realizing the Hawks are more talented and they had a good season despite losing this series. They’ve given up. Lol. It’s not over yet but they’re realizing we’re just more talented than them.

A lot of hot takes after game 2. JC made a huge winning impact tonight. He deserves props .

Seeing as I threw shade on JC. I’ll give props to JC, good game tonight. This is what we need and what I expect from him. That being said I can’t keep myself from looking ahead to the off-season and him wanting a max. It wasn’t a max worthy performance. It was a ~18 million dollar performance. He’s a good player with room for growth but we can’t and won’t give him a max. Sorry I should just live in the moment and say good game JC.

Those cheating refs (yeah I said it) completely are trying to throw this series to the Knicks. AT HOME we  only had EIGHT free throws to the Knick's THIRTY free throws. They had almost FOUR f***ing TIMES as many free throws as we did in the game.

Thank God we beat their fake tough guy asses anyways.

Refs were horrible tonight. Clearly early in the game they were dictating the game over the players. It’s honestly disgusting. The NBA has always been a little corrupt and honestly somewhat fixed (as much as they can kill momentum ect). But they can only do so much. The Hawks are clearly the more talented team and the refs can’t save the Knicks in this series. But it is a shame to think in the next series we basically have no chance to beat the Sixers and the refs. You just have to go back to Sac vs LAL and see how a series is stolen from a more talented less star driven team in broad daylight. Yet we keep watching. We have to overcome poor, and that’s honestly be to nice, corrupt officiating the whole way.

  19. The refs had damn neck braces on! Lol. Nick Patrick .. called the foul to early. Na na na. As a Hawks fan I can’t blame Neil Patrick refs. We know we have a superior squad and to overcome that shit. We have to be undeniable. It’s clear we have a better team. We can’t let these guys steal games. But we let this one slip through pour play from some of our guys and poor coaching. The refs were as bout as fair as we’ll see the rest of the series. Wait till the second round and see us give the sixers a scare then you’ll see some Nick Patrick shit.
