I think he DOES have a lot of potential, but he isn't going to be a high impact guy yr1, and probably not yr2. Just my 2 cents.

I agree that offensively he probably won't, but he could have moments of impacting a game on the defensive side of things year 1.  He's just got the size and raw skills that few do.  He will take time to develop for sure, but let's be honest, Clint's offensive game is limited to putbacks, lobs, and rim running now.  His post game is not good at all, yet he impacts the game at times on the defensive end.  I think Sarr will have moments similar to that.

Outside of rim running he doesn't.

He's got a little Jermaine O'Neal type turnaround that he loves to use.  He's not consistent enough with it as he sometimes rushes it, but the framework for that shot is there.  That's a solid shot to have in the bag for a big.  He's also got a decent looking shot so it's expected he will at least be respectable in the mid-range and beyond.

If Trae is asking out, would you guys entertain and Trae/Mitchell swap?  Seems like Trae + the bigs in Cleveland would feast and Mitchell would fit well with Murray and would obviously plug into our offense with Quin seamlessly.

I'm not an advocate for trading Trae in general, but if there were some assurances to a Mitchell extension, this is one of the few deals I could see as being good for him.  DJ and Mitchell could work both size and skill wise. Unless Cleveland moves off Garland though, I'm not sure they'd be into it as much.  Maybe they flip Garland to a 3rd team (NO?) for another scorer.

I'm gonna pull out so we don't get too off thread topic, but know that I disagree.

    Ok, ok.  I'm pullin' out

Seriously?  Is @Spud2nique gonna let me get away with the phrasing?

    Agreed.  Build around your mVitP.

Not to hijack the thread, but for real, I want Vit on the team if for no other reason than his bench celebrations and hype.

Umm, I dont think the Nets will do something like that, they got burned too many times right now and they still have Claxton on the team unless he is going to be FA.  The smart pick is to just draft the player.

I totally agree that deal made no sense.  I was honestly shocked there was finally one in the Hawks favor.  Normally it's Trae Young for No D Russell, Rui Hachimura and a 2082 FRP.

  6. Did anyone else see the B/R article today that talked about deals Atlanta could do for #1?  One of them was actually Mikal Bridges and DFS, Suns '27 FRP and '28 Grizzlies SRP for Capela and #1.  I am intrigued by Sarr, but if that offer ever became a reality, that's one we'd have to do.  Bridges is EXACTLY what this teams needs next to Trae.  I know it's B/R BS, but it was actually a deal that seemed fair for Atlanta for once.

We can match the salary by adding Hunter to the deal.  However, the only picks we can actually trade in the deal would be the #1 pick this year, a 2029 1st round pick, and a 2031 first round pick.  Milwaukee isn't going to do that.  We can't trade our 2026 pick or our 2028 pick because of the stepien rule.  I guess we could trade the Kings pick, but that may not convey.

I knew we could've added Hunter.  He was included in @Sothron roster construction with Giannis so I questioned how we got to that.  If you're doing this kind of move, we'd have to use our TPE and MLE to fill out the roster with quality pieces.  There would be no shortage of vets who are title chasing that would accept minimums or take reduced rates to be part of a squad like that, especially since there should be minutes to go around.  I'd also see us as a legitimate buy-out candidate destination for the first time in a long time.

IIRC taking Vassell in a deal was not what SAS wanted to do. The salaries would end up matching to make things work. I remember Keldon Johnson's name being mentioned and then when I asked about Vassell I got the above answer. Then was told don't worry, they would just match salaries to make it work. So...other than Keldon Johnson coming back and Vassell apparently off the table I'm not sure who all that leaves but apparently whoever it would be is just there for salary reasons.

They'd want Vassell's defense next to Trae.

For those questions asked of me:

I just forgot to put Jalen in option 2 or 3, whichever one I forgot to list him in. My apologies, it was really late when I finally heard back from that source and could post about this. The only option on the table right now for Jalen to be traded is option #1, the Giannis trade. He would remain a Hawk otherwise.

For the salary matching purposes with SAS: they would include someone(s) just to make the salaries work. I heard Keldon Johnson name and frankly to me he's just a salary with a body attached. He has no appeal to me at all.

I'm still not seeing how salaries match up with the potential deal for Giannis.

    Giannis $49m

    Capela $22m
    Jalen $4.5m
    #1 pick $10m

    TOTAL $36.5m

We'd need to add a little more salary to that wouldn't we?

Hunter is much more valuable than Wiggins.  I think Hunter would return some value if trades even if it would be disappointing.  I think GS would have to attach a valuable pick to Wiggins to get anyone to bite.

I don't think they can trade a FRP until 2026.  At the rate of their decline, I don't know that I wouldn't mind a pick from them that's not too far into the future.

Gents, let’s think a bit, Bucks failed with Lillard, Middleton, Lopez, Portis, Beasley, Beverley…. So We match Lillard with Young and what is the plan to go over that level of talent with our roster? This plan has no wings

Bucks also had locker room turmoil, hence them firing their coach when they were a top seed in the EC.  They replaced him with Doc.  Trae is better than Dame is currently.  Depending on how the deal actually shook out and what was remaining and what we filled out the roster with, I'd dare say we'd have a better overall roster than last year's Bucks squad and comparable to the year they won.

Of course, this is all hypothetical since no one has definitively said it was Giannis.  🫢

I’d be so sad to see Jalen leave. But if we can win a championship in the next 2-3 years it could be worth it.

but we’d still need to fill out the roster with shooters. I wish there was a way we could get Marcus smart somehow.

Where is the shooter in this?  Smart is a great defensive bulldog, but a shooter he is not.

You missed the part, I can't confirm if it was Giannis, but our #1 pick is going OUT in the proposed trade.

    #1 pick in 2024

    Jalen Johnson

    Capela

    two future firsts

    for

    superstar

Regardless of who the "superstar" is, there would most likely need to be additional salaries added to that to make the deal work.  Even the cap hit on the top pick accounts for what $12m?  Those 3 salaries alone put you at just over $35m salary.  That's not getting you many established Superstars unless they're still on their rookie deals or they blossomed after signing their first extensions.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Jody23 said:

Theoretically, the Hawks could give up that haul for a star and then trade Murray to further balance out the roster.  The problem is (looks around league), who's actually going to trade their star for a package centered around the 1st pick in this draft?  I don't see it.

I think that's where Jalen and the future 1st become the sweetener.  Jalen is probably the central point of the deal and the picks are the sweeteners.

I won't ask who, but if true, I would guess Giannis.  At any rate, I don't see any team who has an established star trading them, especially if they aren't asking out.  Lol, this whole thing seems kinda convenient for the Spurs, huh?

yeah that might be worth it.  We'd need hella shooters everywhere else, but it would certainly make up for our lack of defense.  I'm drooling over the potential lineup of Giannis and Sarr manning the paint.  Good luck scoring there. Oh wait.  Nevermind.  #1 pick would be involved in this potential dream trade.  lol.

I have heard that Trae has already told the FO to either make the team a contender now or trade him and he wants to go to the Spurs. I was told the Spurs are offering 4, 8 and all our picks back for Trae. I was told this is the  most likely scenario because Tony Ressler doesn't want to give up our first ever #1 pick and wants to use it.

Trae hasn't talked about the #1 pick because he wants it used to get a superstar player, I've heard a name twice once from my source and once from @NBASupes but I don't want to repeat it out loud just yet until my source is cool with it.  It would cost us the #1 pick, Jalen and two additional firsts and I think Capela to make it work.

IMO that's too rich. I'd rather blow this up and start over than depend on two or three guys carrying a roster. Look at the Suns or Nets and how well that turned out for them.

    That's way too much for a 35 y/o Durant.  🤨
